So called ‘rock critics’ bang on about Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to Heaven, Pinball Wizard et al being the greatest rock songs of all time. I’m dead sure that this Vanda & Young classic should certainly be spoke of in the same breath as those songs. Parts 1, 2 and 3 are as close to the perfect trilogy that we may ever see.
I 110% agree with you, the business side of music is a down right joke and these "journalists" or "critics" wouldn't know their foot for their ass. The Evie trilogy captures the same magic is those songs you mentioned. The Easybeats also didn't get the attention they deserved.
I was there at Wave Aid, watching this live, and it was hands down the greatest ever performance I have ever seen. And I’ve been going to concerts all over the world for the past 30 years. The energy and emotion coming from this set was off the charts.
I have never seen this before. I grew up loving the original and still do, but what a tribute to an incredible song and songwriter, Stevie Wright. Beautifully done!!
@@TWTexasA1 I am fully aware of that! But he wrote other amazing songs during his career, was not just a singer. Harry Young was the older brother of Angus and Malcolm, and Vanda and a Young kick started the careers of people li,e John Paul Young. Stevie Wright was also a very talented man, and what happened to him at that Chelmsford private hospital was disgusting and devastating to him.
@@karenglenn6707 No, it was George Young RIP. He died the same year as younger brother Malcolm Young RIP. Stevie did write in the early years but sadly drugs owned him off and on for the rest.
The Wrights - singers - Nic Cester (of Jet), Bernard Fanning (of Powderfinger), Phil Jamieson (of Grinspoon),,, drummer - Kram (of Spiderbait),,, guitars - Chris Cheney (of The Living End)and Davey Lane (of You Am I and The Pictures) and bass - Pat Bourke (of Dallas Crane). They are named after Australian music legend and former Easybeats frontman Stevie Wright. no wuckers!
Only thing that lets this version down is the backup singers, their voices get lost. Don't mean to be harsh, but I listened to this straight after a Stevie Wright live version with Cheetah singing back up and I guess those 2 ladies are just really hard to beat. Saw Stevie live towards the end of his career and he could still blow an audience away. Met him a few times and he was a very humble, down to earth guy and one of the best vocalists this country has ever produced.
Chris Cheney is a bloody force of nature! His buzzsaw guitar technique is simply amazing! I went to see The Living End at the The Red Hot Summer Tour in Wodonga last weekend. What an amazing sound from a 3 piece. He sure can make that Gretsch sing!!!!!
i remember this at the time thinking what a great version. So good to see it again as a fitting tribute to little Stevie. Rest Stevie, you laid a mean platform for others to follow/your work is done
Bernard seemed to struggle - I suppose Stevie is a hard act to cover but overall great, 79 or 80 can't remember but saw Stevie do this on Sydney Harbour - that was a crazy day.
Such an awesome tribute to Stevie and they did an awesome job. This put the song back into the public conscious which was so deserved for Stevie George and Harry. One of the greatest pieces of rock ever!
Wow wow wow Stevie, mate, you should be proud, we certainly are, these guys performing know they need to give their best just to get close to you, they did! I saw you live, standing ovation, just the best. Perfect song for Australia to hang it’s hat on.
They got back together a few years ago for 50 years of Friday on my mind and tex perkins did evie II . I don't think there was a single person in the Audience that wasn't in tears
What's wrong with some people. This was for charity! Think about it and well the thousands there seemed to like it apart fro a few computer surfers that know jack.
Brad Mayne I loved every single player here so I was itching to buy the song. Loved it and treasured it, reading the sleeve and only then did I discover it was for charity. Bonus🤗🤗🤗
+martin w now that Malcolm Young is ill and Steve Wright passed today i would love to see this added into the fold of songs ACDC do at their concerts at least here in australia
I think Stevie W. would be proud of this group of talented musicians performing Evie. They did an amazing job but there is no one like Stevie Wright! He would perform all three parts and not even break a sweat. But again, these guys did an awesome job !! RIP Stevie.
There with my younger brother, Calvin; this was the performance of the entire concert, easily. You could see people just transfixed by the energy on the stage. Brilliant! Never get tired of listening to this.

Sweet perfection right there. Aussie music doesn't get any better than this. I know this was a cover but this singer took an awesome song and gave it right back to Stevie, may he rest in peace knowing that he still lives on and as long as there is one person that remembers him then he'll never die!! Forgive my memory but was Evie a real person? I'm sure I should remember that but this 64 year old brain is turning to mush over the years!!
I was on the ground in Sumatra after the wave with Army.... still makes me sad thinking about the loss. This is a great song, sung & performed by great artists. Thanks for the memories.
It’s called a tribute and is considered to be a meaningful way of showing respect. An absolute shame that you had to have that explained to you. RIP Stevie 💖

As an old timer who saw the seminal version by Stevie in 1979, this measures up really well but Stevie, Cheetah and the band were on absolute fire that beautiful November day which will forever make it hard for who ever comes after. Nonetheless thanks for giving it a great go!
Underrated bass work here. Excellent bass playing. Bernie struggling but having a go. Phil and Nick no probs with pitching so foldback likely ok. ty 4 vid
I’m sure I saw him play in Springwood civic centre in 1975/6 ish. 👍 I also saw AC/DC at Springwood high school around the same year. What an amazing music scene we had in the 70’s and 80’s…..
