Cannot express how much I look forward to this every week. The builds and engineering yes.. but also the crazy…

Glad you're enjoying it, this is the closest a game has come to scratching the same itch as space engineers in quite a long time. If they ever add damage modelling then I think they'll be the first genuine competitor 🙂

@@Flipsie yeah, a lack of collision damage is one of the big things that turned me off from empyrion. also it was still quite buggy last time i played, the tutorial broke itself skipping a few steps by itself and then later referring back to something that i hadnt done and softlocking me.

The landing at 3:35:55 is worthy of the Wrong Brothers. I look at the stuff you two throw together and I feel like a dude from 1920s

This game has native controller/joystick support. Just using something with analog inputs makes flying so much easier. Also, having your controls be the set point of PID controllers (one per axis) with angular velocity as the process value and the control surface deflection as its output makes for a decent flight assist system. Then you're conceptually inputting a target angular velocity and letting the plane figure out how to do that for you.

Join the space race when you are ready...this game is so interesting. Seen another guy using aerospike engines get to 280000 feet at which point he now needs to figure out new control and propulsion. This game is realistic in all the best ways

You build a car with an oversized spoiler, or a plane upside down. And then the ailerons did exactly what they are supposed to do which was not anticipated by the pilot expecting the opposit of what physics demands. To get out of the water you will have to push your nose up, rather than your tail down. The friction of that humungus wall of a nose in water easily overcomes the effect of the tail ailerons in nothing but thin air anyway.
@lightningbmw2309
@lightningbmw2309 Месяц назад
i dont think you understand how airfoils work. even if you invert the airfoil, if it is still the same angle of attack, it will still work. spoilers work by having an AOA that pushes into the ground. to get out of the water, both pushing the tail down and pushing the nose up will work, as buoyancy will act the same on the plane with the same inclination. both are adding rotational velocity, so they are both affected by buoyancy on the tail. but yeah that nose is ridiculous, if they want to make a seaplane they should design the body for it instead of strapping wings to a car.
@tomvanaarle2622
@tomvanaarle2622 Месяц назад
@@lightningbmw2309 The angle of attack would change in flight as you say, but not on the surface, because it can't. Since there is a *surface* resisting the intended change in orientation with a significant higher density than the air above. In that case the little force acting on it is pushing it no where other than down and the friction provided by that monstrous nose makes it worse. Pushing the tail down (or actually sucking it down rather) will NEVER work to push the nose up (relatively) other than in flight. The ailerons on the wings were not used, only the ailerons on the tail ... a spoiler. That is why instead of lifting the contraption up it was actually pushing the whole thing further down into the water .... the "miracle" you witnessed.
@tomvanaarle2622
@tomvanaarle2622 Месяц назад
@@lightningbmw2309 The only thing they would have needed to do to get out of the water would have been using the ailerons on the wings to get out of the water and the ailerons at the tail to dampen the angle a bit.

Very well done guys. I saw the thumbnail and watched this to take a break from 'Wrong Way Up'. I wasn't expecting to enjoy co-op as much without Capac, but while different, it was every bit as enjoyable. Earlier, I got to watch Splitsie's cooler blow up on Venus in Stationeers. It has been a good day.

19:15: From a technical standpoint, you'd be better off having the ailerons at the end of the wings and reducing their control deflection if it rolls too fast, but it won't make a huge difference, either way works. 20:47: Yeah, exactly what he said, beat me to it. :D

Nice landing. Now you just need to convert your base into a riverboat that can reach its drill platform onto land, and the world is your oyster.

I am curious to know how aerodynamics is modelled. IRL every time you add more anything exposed to air flow, you add more drag. Is skin friction drag a thing here? Viscous fluids (water) are way draggier than less viscous ones (air). It would make embiggening the pontoons problematic. Also, can you add a fairing to buoyancy tanks, and would it matter? Also, you seem to have really "stuck" that landing. An Olympic gymnast would be proud.

Just a thought why not put a propeller in the water at the rear of the plane to get it up to speed in the water that the wings catch the air and pull itself out of the water so the plane main propellers can keep it out of the water?

If you ever do another 'wrong way' series.... 'wrong way forward'. No clue what the constraint would be (first person only, all vehicles are driven using backup cam?), but I found the reversed thrust moments to be humorous.

Seeing splitsie struggle with the physics seems like a problem with coming from space engineers. You'll get used to realistic flight physics, but now center of gravity and propulsion distance from it will take extra consideration

if one could remove the 5 key on the numberpad and make a little joystick and use the number pad for the directions in theory one could have a jotstick for control and have the + - for speed

What if you moved the props to the top rear of the wing and made them pusher props? That'd shift the weight backwards a bit and get them out of the water.

Just started watching this week but, it looks last week like the horizontal propellers were pushing through the vertical "hanging" propellers. The weight hangs from the vertical props and with too much force horizontally, it's pushing like a kid on a swing, rotating the nose up and over? In reality it wouldn't do that (much) but..
