Some years ago I visited the naval museum in Venice. In the musuem there was an exhibition of an Italian look out post established in a partly submerged wreck opposite the Rock of Gibraltar. During the whole war the Italians were able to observe all traffic of ships in and out the port of Gibraltar. Provisions and men could be brought by small submarine. They were very proud that the British never knew about it. Geert De Vriese, Antwerp Belgium.

they did'nt have to bother just get a room in Algerciras and look out on the bay of Gibralter. It's not the Brit's did'nt know, they where right next to Spain, Spain was aligned with Germany to all intents. There was no way to keep it secret what ships where in Gib. So the British knew their ships in Gib where under constant surveillance. This would be the reverse of that, where in the event of the fall of Gib, the only 'safe' space was inside the rock

There remain many hidden assets some still active some, even are new. Some manned by one person, in many locations with little or no contact with the world. Known only to those who need to know.

Many “Stay~Behinds” hides located all over Britain ! A part of history not researched ! They were brave people who were committed to give their lives !! 😳😳

But weren't they limited hideouts to carry out resistance operation rather than long term observation posts? Definitely brave men, but it was very different temporary set up and purpose. They are pretty well known and talked about.

maybe they kept secret incase we ever need them, and if / when we do they would probably decorate them quickly, if they tell the locations, then they not a secret anymore, i say, stay shtum
