i got the xe4 to take pictures of everyday things (friends and family, that type of stuff), basically replacing my phone camera. since this was my first ever camera, I didn't really miss any of the buttons and dials everyone keeps talking about. i feel this camera is exactly for that, someone with no previous photography experience who kinda wants to start.
I've own many many cameras and the camera is also for me. I just want an easy, minimalistic camera to carry around. Just sold my Sony A7C fullframe camera and going for this one (the fuji feel and simulations plus size is what brought me back).
I have the X-E4, for over a year now. I bought it on the spur of the moment because my local camera store had received a small delivery, maybe they had 6 come in? Very hard to get hold of. Love it. I use it for photography only and as you say there is something about the form factor. I can pack it and a couple of spare batteries in a bag with a laptop and travel without feeling overloaded. I think they would struggle to fit IBIS in there. I have an 18-55 which has stabilisation that I use if needed.
The X-E4 is pretty perfect for everyday photography, IMO. Having the new processor while keeping the same sensor (like the S20) and having a 3-way tilt screen (no need for the selfie) would be nice. A bigger battery might make it bigger and, for photography, the NP-W126s provides enough power and bringing an extra wouldn't add to much bulk.
Call me crazy, but I actually own a lovely little X-E4 AND an X-S20, and you’re correct in that they are actually wildly different cameras. For video, the X-S20 is unbeatable value, but for just photography the X-E4 is an absolute gem. It’s extremely portable-while the X-S20 is very small and portable, the X-E4 is TINY, it takes up absolutely no space in your carryon! Wonderful little camera!
I struggled over the X-E4 and my X100v. Ultimately I got the X100v due to, well, everyone saying it was better. And I do love it, but if they came out with an X-E5 tomorrow; I'd be sorely tempted.
Be still my beating heart. I loved my X100v but sold it. Turns out I'm a long lens type of guy. One day I might find a used one but as of today 27/07/23 they are like hens teeth. My plan is to pair one with a Viltrox 75mm f1.2. Little and large. I know the 75mm isn't that long but it plays well on my X-T4. So, from 25 miles north of London in the Rural Borders of North West Hertfordshire. Be lucky stay safe.
Really great review! I was toying between the XE4 or going all out for the XS20. This video reminded me of what I intend to use the camera for and that most of the functionality of the XS20 will be lost on me as I shoot still street/travel photography. Thanks a bunch!

I would like to have a mode where the shutter speed on the dial is the minimum shutter speed for Auto ISO. You can shoot video with Lenses which have image stabilisation to a degree. I like that it can be ultra light, but if you're going to take a bigger lens, you put the grip. Sony did the same with the A7Cx line. I agree with you on perfect camera with IBIS, bigger battery, 6K open gate. We don't really need an extra wheel, it would be in the way of the thumb grip and shooting with set aperture (on lens), set exposure compensation and Auto ISO with a minimum shutter speed is enough. When you want to be creative with the speed, set the speed on the top dial and Auto ISO.
Just found you. I've had the X-E4 for a while now but I am about to start doing short video clips for social media so have been looking at the Lumix S9(just bought one) but I can't get on without a viewfinder so looking at the Lumix S5 and the X-S20. The X-S20 seems to be my obvious single use camera as I have the Fujifilm lenses, accessories etc already. What do you think, would you give up your X-E4 for an X-S20 if you could only have one camera, seems not after watching this!

Simply use a (wired) lav mic for vlogging. It'd be okay to vlog with this without ibis, if you use a wide lens. Not that I use it in that way, but I did try it and it works well.

I have an xs10 and it’s a great camera. My only gripe is the screen, I really don’t care for the flip out style and would rather have the xe4’s screen. I didn’t like the feel of the xe4 at all - but I love my xe2, so I really think it’s that they went a little too minimalist with the xe4’s body.
I really dont get the size benefit of the xe4 everyone talks about, its a ICL camera so by time you have added a lens bigger than a pancake lens its virtually same size as a x-s10 or x-s20 or x-t30
The XE4 for me is Fujifilms worst camera in terms of built quality and price ratio. With a lens on the XS10 it's the same size, price but with IBIS, better grip. If you want the vibe if XE4 but with more 35mm film like vibe and better build get a used XE1 or 2
