Really!!!! I remember when Dreamer hit the London clubs! Everyone went mad over it... I too had a moment watching this clip, my clubbing years were the best years of my life.. Well done for encouraging her to go on X factor..
The depressing part about this is the fact Dreamer is a legend track and everyone knows it but didn't realise the person who sang it is standing right in front of them until she starting singing it. It makes you think that big hit didn't help her get anywhere, the music industry is sad.
Well maybe but not necessarily. I don't know the history of Dreamer (although I have it still in my vinyl collection) but it's highly likely she was a session singer back in the day (maybe still, I don't know) and she was simply hired to sing the song. You don't owe a session singer anything other than to honour your side of the deal, which is usually just to pay them their session fee. They usually don't even get royalties.
GobbettTheGamer -GTG- nobody as in you? If you’ve never heard of Im a dreamer you need to get out more. The reason she is on X Factor is because she was an artist but took time out for family. Which you would know if you actually watched the clip
@@GobbettTheGamer sadly ypure kinda right. So to explain....there was a trend a few years ago where the 90's were becoming a huge nostalgic thing, so it became profitable to create a 90's tour. They featured the dance songs we all know and love and people were coughing up good money for the tickets. The sad thing is, almost 80% of the artists weren't featuring in the shows! They had random people passing off as the original band members or vocalists. All they did was play the backing track and mime to the songs. Janice is no exception to being the victim of this. Livin' Joy have been touted as part of the 90's tour and its some random londoners who are making the money from Janice's records. Its disgusting. Livin' Joy haven't been an act since the early 2000's. Sadly it's happening to a lot of the 90's acts also, like Cappella. I honestly think this is why she returned to the X Factor so people would know the face of the person that wrote the successful record and sang it.
@@AmaanStorm - Well you’re partly correct. - First off, Livin Joy wasn’t “londoners” the producers and founders of the act were from Italy. - Also, the ONLY record Janice had with them was “Dreamer.” She left the band, and was replaced by Tameko Starr, who sang “Don’t Stop Movin” (with being apart of the Livin Joy act) - She left… was replaced, she moved on… :)
@@apparently-nothing do u just get the feeling that Simon worked it out because the moment she said it is a song called Dreamer the camera went back to him only very briefly and he had a weird moment
It’s depressing that the music industry has forgotten the incomparable Janice Robinson and a BANGER that generations know and love. I am thrilled she got the accolades she deserves because damn this made me feel nostalgic and reminded me of a time in music where is was truly magical and bygone.
Simon is truly delighted! You don't see that often. The power of dance music, and memories from some of the best times of our lives-- with friends on a dance floor! OMG! Tears in my eyes. She wrote this! I danced my butt off to this! Thanks for the memories!
At the beginning, you could see Simon doing the math… Dreamer, 22 years ago… I think he had an inkling of what was coming based on that info. Then the huge grin when the beat started. He had figured it out 😂
Shes american... But yes.. made her way into our living rooms ❤ shes amazing man... I've always said..that entire genre was to short lived.. pushed aside by big corp... What i would like to say to anyone watching this and reading my comment....it's not dead... Want a case in point.... Tune in to Clyde one at 8pm on a friday ❤🎉 scotland has an entire scene called GBX.. its an acronym for George bowie experience.. hes a DJ... But GBX is more.. you'll get it.. but search out gbx..its as close to a bone fide genre of yesteryear as you can get.. type a song and type gbx.. it'll be there ❤

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!! Back in the day the all the Clubs in San Francisco both gay and straight use to play a mix of this song! She's Amazing!!!! I agree with Robbie Williams 100% this brought me back to a time in my life that was both great and not so great for my sobriety. Anyway. She's Amazing!!!!
I was 13 when this came out, haven't heard it since then and remember it so well. Robbie is right you listen to this song and other dance songs of the 90s and you're instantly transported back to that time. So much nostalgia.
Robbie is a good judge tbf... Hes a very nostalgic oriented man and complex.. which is fine... I loved him and his wife being part of that panel tbh.. no sure why it was fleeting.... But same time.. doesn't matter cause he seen some things in his tutelage🎉
These throw backs are incredible, this was music that had so much positive energy in humanity. This was real music. I bet we all have a flashback to one of our best moments in life . Love her for bringing us back this memory.
Man this just made my day!!! One of the best dance tunes ever made (plus Don't Stop Moving) what an amazing woman, so much soul and I'm so pleased with the instant standing ovation. There's still hope for the listeners of today's music!
She was incredible. She started losing her voice by the end. She just needs to work on her yelling. DREAMER is Iconic!! No the judges were not overacting. That song drove the dance/R&B/ and Soul music in the 90s.
you don't think her pitch was a little flat? I know this song "Dreamer" backwards & forwards, all of its remixes and re-releases over the years, with Tameka Starr's vocals too -- and for some reason she just sounds just a tiny bit "off" her on the vocals, like pitchy in some parts :( still an amazing diva, an amazing song, and I hope this appearence breathes a whole new life into her career!
At first I did not recognize her. No hair, the gap in her frontal teeth disappeared; but my God! when that song started, I went wild in a time capsule..
Exactly the way i felt. I am 55 and she reminded me of the likes of Diana Ross. I miss those days so much. I really can't pin point why, but i do, probably, much less complicated times.
Not a one hit wonder. She was on the UK chart twice. First time around in 1994 when this song was released and hit number 18. Then literally just under a year later it was remixed and re-released which eventually scored her the number 1 record for that week. It was a huge song. Some drama happened between the producers and Janice and Janice ended up parting ways with the producers. She did release a few tracks in the following years but none that dented the UK top 75.
When I saw this video for the first time I couldn't stop crying 'cause this is really about dreaming. The love she's got from the audience and Robbie is so ❤️
Good or not, the entire crowd was dancing and singing along AND got standing ovations from everyone including the judges. So yes, I kinda was dancing a little myself when I watch this video.... which is rare 🤓

I feel bad for all the kids today. In their 20s and 30s never have experiencing the fun we had in the 80s and 90s. It was the best the music was the best. Everyone had their own look, fashion was huge, and now everyone looks alike. There's nothing but sports bars and TV sets on the wall. How sad
I’m 29 and I experienced this growing up at my teeny bopper dances and clubs. This song wasn’t even out in the 80s. Most songs don’t become popular until 5-10 years after it comes out. It was definitely popular when I was in highschool
The fact she stands there looking like an art piece really is the cherry on top of the cake. She is THE ARTIST! The fact she was forgotten and still not appreciated enough after this show is still very sad 🥲

'Be my lover' was one of my most favorite tracks back then. Heard on the radio once and I loved it. But, I did not know the title so I bought a cd with a track from Jam & Spoon - Angel, it also starts with 'ladadi' :-D Great song too but what a mistake-a to make-a :-)
This song was a huge club hit back in the 90s when I frequented the clubs a lot. I remember seeing her perform is live and running around the bar with all the customers having a great time. Love seeing her perform it again after all these years.
Janice Robinson, "re-emerges like the phoenix", with her great success of "Dreamer" (original song 94-95 & written by her), demonstrating her great quality as an artist, and that over the years she has not lost the quality of her impeccable voice! She is a very versatile singer with a wide vocal range, whose voice reflects the essence of a feeling!
