The documentary presents the entire process of building the Xavante Forest Backpack, a teaching tool used in communities in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Paraguay and which, for the first time, was created based on the worldview of an indigenous community.
The initiative aims to reduce forest fires by raising awareness and applying sustainable integrated fire management practices, but without losing sight of its traditional use. The short film features reports from Xavante leaders who followed the entire process, from the agreement to the implementation of the pilot project.
Directed by Laércio Miranda, the documentary was made by Operation Native Amazon (OPAN) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United States Forest Service (USFS).
