Grew up on 3-wheelers and then naturally moved to Banshees and then a Raptor 700R...in 2017 I switched to SXS’s and almost immediately felt like something was missing. After two years I realized I was missing my love for riding sport quads. I sold my SXS and got into another Raptor! Best thing I ever did!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
that’s great you got back into quads! like you said that was the best thing you ever did! imo sxs ruin trails but that’s just what i’m seeing near me i can’t speak for everywhere
I absolutely love my 2006 Yamaha raptor. I modded the beast, 105.5mm piston and cylinder with a stage 3 cam, plus 3mm intake valve and plus 2mm exhaust valves, 5mm stroker crank installed, Hinson clutch basket, plus few other things. I can ride next to a Polaris rzr 1000 and it's tapped out on top, I'm in 4th gear I can pull it up, then shift in 5th and it's stupid fast. Yes, it's got taller sprocket up front and as small as I could find out back. Plus 22" tires in rear with 23" tall up front. Been riding for over 40 years. Still enjoy it every chance I get
My wife rode it and stabbed the throttle at 40mph, it pulled her back out, 😢 chiropractic treatment followed, probably need to buy her a mellow scrambler 500cc 4x4
Its a beast, and it's a one-of-a-kind. There's never really been any other quads in the big bore sport quad market; at least not any that could compete with the Raptor.
Bought one new in 18, se model. Basic bolt-ons with a safe dyno tune on pump gas and 60whp is mighty hard to give up. Bought a new yxz se spring 21, and, while very fun, there is just something almost magical about the raptor; its nearly perfect
just got a 2022 700r. i am falling in love with it. i am not used to this level of fit and finish quality. i ride it for an hour and the engine is almost cold after 5 minutes when i stop the engine. my polaris xp 1000 was overheating all the time even in very cold weather. in canada we have 20 years 160 000 kilometers warranty on the engine no charge with yamalube products exclusively. i mean this is confidence in the quality of your products. i keep it stock. the stock power is more than enough for such a light machine.
20 years? No way bro.... I am about to buy a 2014 with less than 40 hours on it on Friday. I legit have 10 years on that engine? I assume without mods, correct?
One thing that wasn’t mentioned, and it made me buy another sport quad was the 10% power increase that started on the 2015 models! That’s huge. I don’t know this but I felt Yamaha did it because of the renagade. Power to weight I mean. They are real close now
When I said huge I was implying that the sport qaud market gets stagnant with changes so it was huge on an existing model. Second I own a yfz 450 and it always bothered me that the 700 was slower. Not anymore.
I had a beefed up 660 I always thought was great once u ride the 700r u will find out u were wrong the torque it lays down will put a smile on any face
Truth! The newest Raptor is THE pinnacle of big bore sport ATVs. '22 most likely the last yr. Get one! Got my new '21 700R-SE black/ flo yellow machine in June. Ride!
Still love my Raptor 700 as much as I did the day I bought it new in 2011. Apart from the starter relay failing early on, nothing has gone wrong with it.
Well said! Love my '21 Raptor 700R-SE.. just 3hrs on it & already switched rear tires to wider meatier 20×11×9 GBC's..added a case saver & Pro Tec moflo airbox cover (+3hp). Oh plus an hr meter! That's it. Doesn't need a darn thing else added to hurt reliability. Stocked up on Maxima Pro Plus oil & K&N filters. Yeaaa baby! 💯👍 - Ohio 🇺🇸
@@akashi8033 bought the SE model for 9100.00 last august. They took 500 off which was crazy. I know the guys real well and made the deal just to get me buying from them. All my other machines came from other dealers in other towns.
When you are old and can’t ride, you will look back and either regret not getting one, or look back on all the great memories of riding one! Life is short my friend.
I had a raptor 700r se 2011. The black one with skulls. Power comander, kn filter, dmc dual. Was a beast and super fun. I had to sell to finance a house. Still want a raptor 700r again. Those long sliding long curves ❤
*02:50* “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” More like.. If we don’t need to spend R&D money and can still charge the same price every year, don’t fix it 😄
My friend has a Raptor 700R buried under junk in his garage, not touched for years. Should I buy it for $3K? It has a twin exhaust + tuner, and the pipes get hot quick and glow at night. It also makes a noise almost like a bad belt/ pulley in a car (maybe coming from the engine). It runs great and I'm tempted 🤔
i plan on buying one for my first atv . i want something reliable with you enough power to keep you out of trouble on hills. i love the fact you can just puts around on it an just or open her up an raise some hell
I know you can stretch a set of Mud Sharks on the rear and it will grab EVERYTHING! I did it to a 660. Put sand razors on the front. It made a great Florida trail monster. I am pushing my wife to get her jet ski so I can get 700. I just got a GSXR 750 so it is her turn lol
I've never ridden a sport quad, always utility machines (mostly Hondas). How are they on the trails? I'm afraid of getting hung up in ruts and whatnot.
@@elexplosivo100 my kfx450 needed new front wheel bearings week 1 from a brand new purchase in 09. No one is perfect, but under built is not an error that factors into manufacturing error.
Looking at getting a new raptor. As a big guy, I feel the frame size and smaller less torquey engine of the 450 may not fully satisfy me. Hopefully I'm making a good choice. Also, I'd like to have reverse.
@@jayryan7473 again it's about having the reverse as well as the frame size and low rpm grunt of a large bore motor (not the high speed ripping u referring to) it's just alot to like about the raptor
The Raptor. More torque and reverse. The Honda is a great quad too, and a lot lighter than the raptor. So while lacking reverse it can be manhandled around easier if you do need to.
@@boltfn2639 I used to have a TRX450 and loved it, had the HRC kit so a little more power and taller rear tires. It didn’t like going super slow on the right trails, would have to slip the clutch a lot, but was doable. But I’m currently look at the raptor, simply for the fact it has reverse, and Yamaha is the only manufacturer still making sport quads. I have been on a 660, but not a 700. I can only imagine it’s better in every way that what I remember of the 660 though.
If you are more of an aggressive rider 450r all the way. The 450 is a much better machine for faster riders and has great power delivery in its stock form. That is if you go for an 06 and newer.
You said same as it was in 2011, what am I missing about the 700s prior to 2011?! Guy in town has a 2010 700r for sale so I’m curious if I should pass on it for a newer model for some reason.
Can the Raptor or Any quad tour long distance as motorbikes can? I would love to own a quad if it was capable of being a real daily driver as well as a play thing.
I think it would be cool of Yamaha made a Raptor similar to a Can Am Renegade or a Polaris Scrambler. Same amount of power but with an IRS, 4 wheel drive and an overall slight change in the plastics and body style. I would be so interested in how it would look and preform.
Yamaha needs to add one more gear, time to make the raptor hit 100mph stock or bring back the banshee and make it a four stroke 850 twin make it plush then make it do 115mph also make it look mean
@@dirttraxtv no they are not, they are heavy and underpowered, way less power to weight than the older original non efi bikes. i have a 660 my friend has a 700.
