Really enjoyed this thanks, a week after seeing it still thinking of you standing there (trying to sell the car), trying to explain a whole in the roof of your F reg Subaru .. 'and another thing, lovely hole for a summer umbrella, just imagine laying on the roof on a towel in the shade, no sunburn .. always thinking ahead...'

Hahahaha :) ; I did indeed use to get a fair few odd looks ...but was needed back in the day when GPS collars were only just beginning to appear, and weighed more than 1Kg . Not quite sure how I managed to sell the Subaru in the end ! Will post Part 2 tonight (Thursday )

Just a quick question? What is the furthest distance of a stag you know of from the rutting grounds to the wintering grounds ?? Just be interested for records sake !! Have a great weekend 👍

@@deerohdeer8000 In part 2 of this results of radiotracking stags is shown; among the 4 stags we collared at the time on Exmoor, the furthest however only conclusively moved up to around 6 to 7 miles as the crow flies ....that being though covered in a single day when that stag returned from winter range to previous autumn rutting range. Some on Exmoor claim that they have known stags move over 30 miles between ranges , and don't doubt that occurs, but 4 to 8 miles (direct line) appears more within common distance between winter and summer ranges here in Westcountry.

@@LangbeinWildlife thanks for getting back to me ! Appreciated! Ya that stag I followed years back on my channel funny enough was 8miles as the crow flys !! But here at the moment We have single master stag that travels 12 miles! The only stag out of the area !! That travels to the rut !!! Luckily he is of good stock !! Which is needed as all the stags are much poorer in antler growth in the local stags ! They don’t go out of the area , so are not feeding well ! Not like the stags that eat of the summer crops etc !! But ya also years ago I’ve filmed a stag at the rut ,then following day the stag was at the wintering ground then following day back at the rut !! Like you it fascinates me !! So enjoyed this post definitely can’t wait to part 2 !! Take care & thanks again!! 🦌craig 🦌OH🦌

So disgusting and barbaric to hunt deer with packs of vicious dogs. These people are a disgrace!

It's poachers you need to worry about - not the hunt! Even if you are against hunting, what the hunt do is select those that are old and at risk of mating with their own offspring and those that are, for want of a better word, the runts...... and this is for the good of the herd.....Compare that with poachers who want prime stags for their antlers and young, healthy deer for their meat ..... this decimates the herd.....get educated and direct your anger at the poachers. I speak as someone who does not hunt but understand why it is done.

@@SallyDallyn If it is done for the reasons you give, then that would be understandable, but why do we need idiots dressed up in costumes with a pack of hounds to bring it to such a grizzly end? I'm all for tradition (no, I'm not one of your usual anti-hunting brigade, who jump on it because of their political affiliations) but these idiots dressed in costumes seem to enjoy seeing it killed. What's wrong with a marksman doing the same with a high-powered rifle if it's only about the reasons you state? You may be right about poachers, but people aren't making films to state its case. A few years ago there was a programme that discussed this very issue, with people from the pro and anti side of the argument. One of the pro lobby said the hunt fails in its aims more times than it succeeds, etc. Not a very convincing argument, given that earlier in the programme, one of the pro-hunters was saying that it was an effective way of controlling numbers. Let's be honest about it, many of those involved in hunting are driven by blood lust, and not by the welfare of the animals in general. But, as per usual, it'll be the same old bullshit excuse about 'you townies just don't understand the countryside', blah blah blah. Well, I'll never understand the reason for goons hunting an animal to exhaustion and then killing it, and all the while dressed up like a prat.
