I have this exact gun in both 12 and 20. I originally got a 20. I liked it so much that I got a 12 a year later. I did add a Limbsaver recoil pad to each. They are a little snappy recoil-wise before adding the pad. My sons and I have used both of them to hunt pheasants, chukars, waterfowl, and turkeys here in Kentucky, USA, as well as a few rounds of sporting clays. I have shot light 2 3/4 inch loads all they through powerful 3 inch turkey and waterfowl loads. For the money, they are great guns. Also, on my recommendation of this brand, my cousin purchased a nifty little 28 gauge in the same model. Thanks for the great content.

I looked at one of these for my daughter to start using in clay sports. When compared to their (Yildiz) "HPS" (High Performance Steel) models, these aluminum receiver versions are indeed lighter, but they kick harder and have a thin dense recoil pad. The HPS models are heavier and have a greatly improved recoil pad, both reducing felt recoil very well. In the end, we went with the 30" Sporting HPS in 12ga with extended chokes and adjustable comb. She's 5'5", 140lbs, and handles it just fine. I highly recommend the HPS models over anything else Yildiz has yet produced.

I am looking to get the HPS Sporting Model in 12 gauge, but none are in stock in my area . I did see the HPS in 20 gauge and got it. I like it a lot so far. It weighs close to 7 lbs and should be just right for skeet and maybe pheasant hunting.

@@treedaddyoutdoors8310 After seeing how well the HPS Sporting performed for my daughter, I went back and picked up their HPS Legacy 12 for myself. Two inches shorter on the barrels and no adjustable comb, but still the improved recoil pad, making it a great shooter. We are both superbly pleased with our picks. I strongly recommend joining the notification list if you're looking for one and waiting for the HPS model.

always makes me laugh when he describes a bog standard butt pad as a "recoil system"

I bought this exact one a month ago. it is the lightest 12 bore gun I have ever held. but its light weight comes with a price, man they kick like a mule even in 24 gram loads. but it is something worth living with for the price and ease of swinging and holding for a long time while hunting. I purchased a rubber recoil pad and installed it on it, it's acceptable now.

I'm a sixteen stone guy i used one on a try day with Canon shell's and it kicks like a mule. Almost all the light guns have the same problem unless they have a built-in recoil systems. I'm glad David recommended soft 21 to 24gram shell's

An FYI if your in the United States looking at Academy's website I would suggest calling your store to check availability. My states store website showed zero quantity on hand of the Legacy HP Compact 20ga. BUT when I called the gentleman working the gun counter said they had one on display and two new in box.

After inspecting both new in box guns I bought a beautiful fiddleback grained Turkish Walnut Yildiz for $500. I've not seen wood this gorgeous on "B" guns costing 5 times as much. Will be my new Turkey gun, bottom barrel 25yds. and in, top barrel 25yds. and out.
