Thank you for this honest and practical review and your are correct in that in real world use the differences between the two lenses are virtually indistinguishable.

Thank you for a comprehensive review! I like how you favour small and light while everyone goes for the latest and greatest GM/GMii like photography is some kind of a fashion show (but hoping you can review your zoom preference for the 70-200 sector :). And it is nice to see a fellow Ottawan performing a review!

Thanks for this video, it says very true things, I'm just struggling between these two lenses for my Sony A7RII. One question, is there a big difference between the 2.0 and the 1.8 in photography, in your opinion? Greetings from Peru. (my work is wedding photos)

Thank you for your question from your beautiful country. There is so little difference between F1.8 and F2 that you can just slightly see a difference in background blur when put side by side. To see a dramatic difference you would have to compare F2 and F1.4. Similarly, the light gathering capability at F2 is just barely lower than F1.8 - something like a quarter of a stop.

I’m a new beginner & I’m still learning how to use my Sony NEX 7 camera with the 18-55 Kit lens I am not a expert I just wanted something better for video so I can stream on RU-vid so I wanted to know your opinion between the kit lens & the YONGNUO YN35mm F2 Lens? because right now it’s $106 on Amazon & being that I paid $300 for the Sony NEX 7 with the kit lens & was like brand new I don’t want to spend $423 for the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens right now if I don’t have to I just want a better lens for video that will show better quality video then the 18-55 kit lens that came with my NEX 7

For your cropped sensor NEX 7, I would recommend something wider than 35mm for what you have in mind. The 35mm will act more like a 55mm because of the APS=C sensor. I would look at a 23mm for that purpose. With the crop, it acts more like a 35mm.
