The Yorkshireman Pub - Could it be saved?
Today we went to have a look at the former Yorkshiremans pub which is to be demolished in the coming days due to structural issues.
Should the building be saved? and how could this be done?

Do we really need another hotel in Sheffield

If the will was there it would be saved, but the land is more valuable than the pub…to some. In the days when men wore suits to visit public houses, the Yorkshireman’s was kept by Tommy Crawshaw. Tommy won two FA Cups, two League Championships, and played for England.

Its a shame. As a Sheffield lass and long term rock fan I spent many hours in there. Knew several eras (including when Chloe Newsome owned it and it was a gay bar) My main era was in the early 90s in my teenage years. Just before it was demolished my friend John was the landlord. They absolutely could have secured the building through underpinning it reinforcing the back wall but I guess it didn't fit in with the 5 star hotel they are building (because Radisson Blu is way more important than 1700's architecture!!) I can critique SCC, they are shocking, at times! Im just also glad they didn't knock down the Salvation Army citadel, just round the corner, that was built in 1894 buy has been empty since 1999. There is planning permission on that. I also know about the Manchester pub, as my mate worked there in her student days at Salford. I went to it before, they moved it but have been since. They moved it when they built the 'new' Arndale, which is huge. But good on 'em. Manchester is way more caring, they've even put their buses back into public ownership. Sheffield, as proud as I am, of my city, has a lot to learn!!

Shame they can't restore it instead of demolishing it.

I'd come to Sheffield to visit a pub built in the 1700s, but definitely not to visit a modern day glass and concrete eye sore. More important, I hope the people of Sheffield appreciate your work -- if I lived there, I'd want you to be on the city council. You've got a really interesting channel -- love learning about Sheffield -- and I've only been there once. I'm planning to visit later on this year (covid-permitting), hence my interest in your channel. THANK YOU for all the great videos. You're definitely an asset to Sheffield.

It could have been saved 100% they could of put acro posts up inside on every floor to stabilize the building and scaffolding, the people that was doing the demolition was probably not told to preserve the building next to the site, 100-percent with the technology that we have and machinery it could have been peserved just imagine how much the land value is worth in the city centre that is why they are on about demolishing John Lewis just across from it mate
