Just switched from a flip 5 to a fold 5. The flip had a tech glitch with the screen power supply, so at that price i returned it.i loved the compactness The fold 5 im still learning but love the large screen and yeah now have to find a pen Omg have you seen the upcoming tri and quad fold devices?
I've been using the Fold 5 for three weeks and it's a powerhouse. I know it's the most American thing to throw shades at Samsung but the phone is an excellent experience. Do not hesitate to use the larger screen as often as you can.
After listening to many reviews I have come to terms that most are paid to play! The iPhone has changed very little but it's always met with excitement for minimal changes. The fold 5 made the most durable foldable with phenomenal multitasking. The phone feels like it is built to last. It's the best foldable and needs more credit for durability

As far as I know, Apple is one of very few OEMs that do not pay for reviews (or previews as some call them). Samsung pays many millions to YT creators via affiliated links. It is amazing that people accuse Apple because they get good reviews and miss the salient point that it is much more likely that Samsung and other OEMs have more biased reviews!
I know right... i have both Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Z Fold 5. They both are great. On the Z Fold 5 the outer screen may be smaller and thinner but it works perfectly fine. I open it up when i watch videos or do light gaming on it or use the GPS to name a few things. I have huge hands. I got mine on Ebay for $1,200
I love the outer screen on the fold and I come from the s20 ultra, and using a small phone is a joy, modern day phones compromise between functionality and emersion where we don't have to because we have the best of both worlds
You may say the Fold doesn't replace a slab phone, but me and 3 other Note enthusiasts say otherwise. We have each gotten the fold 3 (me) the fold 4 (my brother) and the fold 5 (my mother), and we say that the Folds embody the Note series better than ANY slab phone could. Buts, i still agree 100% that the FOld shoud be better. We should have a lineup by now with a Fold and Fold plus or ultra, making at least one landscape, and having s pen support on BOTH the outer and inner displays. Better battery life would alwatys be a plus too.
The makeup of the folding inner screen is different from that of the traditional outer screen. That's why the same S-pen cannot be used on both screens.
Thank you Jason wonderful review i bought the fold 5 one week ago and not regret ..the fold replaced both my kindle and ipad. i use it as a second phone beside my iphone to focus only on reading books and doing other note writting related job . Fold 5 is reall swiss knife which you feel safe when you carry it as the one phone if you were casted away alone after plane crash in isolated island😂. You can depened on the camera as sometime it gave me a better than iphone 14pro image quality.

I had to file an insurance claim for my Fold 4 earlier this week and they offered to give me a Fold 5 replacement for no extra charge. Yes please. Now I just have to hope this Fold 5 lasts me until the Fold 6 comes in and I finally pay off the Fold 4. LOL
for real, just open the damn phone. it's kinda the point. the small front display is just for some small things. i love how easy i can use it one handed. while having the big screen when i want
I love your content and respect your opinion. I switched from being heavily in the apple eco system to the Fold 3 and now im on the Fold 4. Not upgrading to the 5 (will wait for the 6). And i completely agree with you. However one thing people get wrong is to even compare this device to a 'slab' phone. 😂 its a whole new category of device. We dont compare iphones or smartphones to those old nokia phones or sony erricsons(remember those , i had the banana phone 😂). These devices are in a league of their own. Its kinda like Prince you either get his music or you dont. But when you get it. Its truly unreal and unbelievable, it will replace your kindle , your tablet, your phone , in some instances your TV, even your screen in your car for sat nav and music. At the gym you can have your video for your exercise and your stats from your watch or whatever device. Then theres the SPen for artists or just to colour or use for work and sign docs etc. Theres samsung dex. You then fold it and fits in your pocket. Its not much heavier than an iphone 14 pro max. And its nothing to do with age or fat fingers lol. Ive lived through cassetes , cds , mini discs, etc but this by far has changed my life made me more productive and just have so much fun using it. The only issue is i cant go back to a "normal" phone. I used to carry an iphone mini and a ipad mini. This is both and fun fact the width when closed is the same as an iphone mini and the 1st iphones. No one ever complained then about small.screens and unable to type 😂 anyways. No matter what you say and i say this out of love as i watch all your videos you 💯 have an apple bias. They have you locked in their garden. 😅 i use an imac as my main computer used to be deeeep in the apple eco system using apple notes and apple music etc. But google keep , youtube premium with music, or spotify etc its not hard to use both eco systems together in harmony. I have my galaxy watch buds and phone and imac all together with no issues. Anyways ill stop as could go on for hours lol keep doing what you do ! Cya
Honestly why would they put all the best parts in this foldable when they know they they will sell in small amounts. Lets be real, these are not flying of the shelf and they are not making a lot of money off of it. ( not like the S23 ) If the Fold 3/4 took off, they would have put all the bells and whistles on this model and maybe had the pen as part of the whole package. Untill this becomes their best seller, it's going to be a step behind the flagship.
Great review, ty. I upgraded from f3 and am happy. It is better than I expected. BUT, I carry two phones and I use this more as an android powered tablet (ipad mini). I find the size as a "personal tablet" awesome. For group shares I use an iPad 12.9 (a lot). Im considering Samsung tablet ultra 14.5 soon (for group training). I'm a cloud server field engineer during the day. Luv your honest reviews.
i agree with most if not all of your comments. i have been a Samsung Note user since the Note3. started by wanting the largest screen i could get and the s-pen was a plus/gimick.. i've owned every note since up and including the S23 ultra. the S-Pen has become indispensable to me. hense, including your comment about the camera's not being the best, the fact the the S-pen is an after thought, has pushed me away from the fold family. if samsung fixes these issues, meaning, include the same camera as in the flagship S -ultra phone.. AND and this is a big one, integrate the s-pen into the phone A-la S-ultra style, then they have my attention.. well as long as its not some stupid cost.. and its already stupid expensive.
If they include the same cameras that will cannibalize sales of the S Ultra. Innovation on slab phones is pretty much focused on cameras now because the form factor cannot be changed much any further. Cameras are the USP of high-end slab phones like the S Ultra.
Use case scenario is one of the most important review criteria. If outside all day, then it's not so good and big screen not needed, and less durable re drops, and hard to use it quickly as a slab phone. So then the extra bulk is not worth it. If use is inside mainly, at meetings or commuting on public transport then its versatile and likey to last longer.
Phone is phenomenal. Form factor is perfect either open or closed. True one handed use closed and massive beautiful screen when open. The day they house the S Pen inside this thing and throw the Ultra level cameras in it's game over. Really hard to use any other device outside of this. The only things I prefer my iPhone for these days is the camera and the convenience of imessage.
I really like the energy you bring to this review even though I disagree with the final verdict. There's not too many reviewers who manage to deliver an informative and hard hitting review while also being entertaining. So props for that. Although one thing you could mention is what this phone means for art enthusiasts. I'm looking to upgrade (it's been like... ten years since I got a new phone?) and this seems like the best phone to do art on if money is no object.
You would think that now that they're five generations in, they would start taking the tech from the older generations, slightly refine it, and then sell it for a significantly better price. They're not going to get people on the fence into the new ecosystem until the price is better.
Laughing at Samsung notes app... shame on you!!! Samsung notes is an AWESOME app. That app with a pen is the reason I use Samsung. My Note 20 Ultra (soon Z5 maybe) is full of notes posted to my home screens. Fantastic way to stay organized like an old-school day timer. I will try Onenote though.
I just tried your Onenote and when you pin to home screen you can't read it... Samsung Notes is better. As for the front screen. If I may quote the Big Lebowski: "That is like your opinion man".
I'm 6'1", 220lb and I use the front cover most of the time, as I'm on the move, and it works perfectly for me. Once I sit down and settle, I use the inner screen and I don't know what kind of greasy nasty unwashed fingers you have but I don't have much more fingerprints than I'd have on any other phone. I don't know what you're talking about. You don't like the phone, just say you don't like it. Don't come up with shit like unusable, fingerprinty or whatever.
I don’t understand foldable phones wasn’t the foldable phones years back that had screens that was fingerprint magnets screens that scratched an crease down the center seems like they’re going backward
When people say the front screen is too small I can’t use it.. but .. have we forgotten how were the phones before? Like iPhones etc no one ever complained about that actually when notes phones and similar came out people were complaining about how too big they were.
It’s a foldable it’s main screen is when you open it up. It needs to be portable and comfortable to hold and carry in your pocket. If you wanted a wider phone- just buy a normal slab phone.
I had the fold 5 for a month, while it was amazing phone i couldn't stand the front screen just to do something quick and i was annoyed that i had to unfold the phone. So i exchanged it for the pixel fold and im extremely happy with it.
My honest opinion,I have the z fold 3,not the best battery life and that's what kills the user experience,but the 3 is the last attempt,the 4,and 5 are too short,still small batteries,and lastly,not anywhere near the top notch camera quality you'de expert from a near $2000 device,and it doesn't matter how wide the outer display is,you still can't use the s pen on it,so with that being said after the z fold 3,Samsung has lost my interest in the z fold series,instead I now have a tab s9 and the battery life is amazing,a true tablet experience,no more folds.
Yes you are right i have z5 ,, small screen keyboard problem no s pen small battery camera not as price diffrent colors not available for all crease visible

I broke my 23 ultra now I have no choice but trade and get 800 credit . Ultra is made out fragile glass and to make it worse curve phone has no adequate case
