Close to but still untainted by the media hype surrounding the "Gothic Metal" trend at the 2nd part of the nineties, (which never existed, it was basically a doom metal with female vocals, check paradise lost for that), this Album and the next one totally stands out as a true Minne Gesang, to conjure the loved one to obey unto thee. These are Medieval topics A+++ transferred into modern ears or brains. You can never critisize Liv and Raymond and band, they truly did something original.

The underground metal world brings a combined emotions in the dark world within me into another level further heightened state of mind especially the symphonic black/gothic metal genre..these soft mother's songs has opened to my high level musical taste!.A "heavy door" showing me depth another song ever melancholic can't never offer me!.. inspired me alot in my personal feelings & emotions yet still could not help me to break through the wall of sadness nor my lost love!..maybe it brings the feeling full of hatred & its dragging me on my knees & maybe despite that the overall of the fact its a huge sadness & a great loss...on the contrary..its a remarkable hope & peace dedicated to passion..lust & desire...!!

"Cheerful Dirge" basically describes this genrge of music. Slow, heavy, and very very dark.

This album as well as A Velvet Darkness They Fear, which came right after, are the only albums that sounds like this, and they are both masterpieces that truly perfected what the band set out to do. Aegis is still pretty cool but its already getting much more synth, and after that Theatre of Tragedy was no longer the fairly unique uber vampire goth music that you find here. Sadly it became some much more generic and mediocre techno rock with female dominated vocals. Gone were the growly and guttural male vocals. Instead you get some male vocals that kind of sound like Craftwork and a revolving door of female vocalists not named Liv Kristine. There lies the real Tragedy.

However there's only pain for all us that is a headbanger /rock people that is disapeared. This golden years have disapeared and now there's only shadows and pain and boring . These funny people has gone and now there's only boring snob , arrogant and people without souls. What the good tourist that is nice and smart and friendly. They are leaving , and now I'm lonely and sad and boring. I am lonely. Always dreaming with the pretty girl. I can't find her. I only find bad and mercenarie girls. So I'm down, thinking take my own life. But, I don't have courage. I m a living dead. The body is alive but my soul is dead. So I m listening got doom metal .Because the only thing I can have got is sadness and lonlyness. And no one can help me. God?where he is?I can't. Find him Is there's someone knows where is he?Maybe I can find him and he can save my soul of this hell.
