Classic! Smokey Robinson and Ronald White wrote "My Girl" for The Temptations in 1964 and they took the song to number one in 1965. When you're read for more from them check out some of these: "The Way You Do the Things You Do" (1964), "Get Ready" (1966), "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (1966), "(I Know) I'm Losing You" (1966), "I Can't Get Next to You" (1969), and "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" (1971).
THE WILLIAMS BROTHERS, Melvin Franklin Eddie Kendricks and DAVID RUFFIN. They were just incredible SMOKEY WROTE THIS SONG AFTER HE WROTE MY GIRL FOR MARY WELLS ……
This is not the real song by legendary Temptations, which is one of the greatest songs of all time. Y’all def need to. react to real CLASSIC Five Temptations My Girl.
Thank you for pointing this out, I thought I was going crazy! This is definitely not the Temps singing. They do not sound this different even when they are singing live.
This song knocked the Beatles out of first place in the Top 10. The Temptations had it all….the voices, the choreography, the smoothness, the look and the great Motown song. What’s not to like. Please react to more Tempts. They had a ton of hits. Thanks Shawn and Mel.🥰
No it didn't. It knocked Gary Lewis and The Playboys "This Diamond Ring" out of the #1 spot on March 6, 1965, which was also my 17th birthday 😀. On March 13, 1965 it was knocked out of the #1 spot by The Beatle's "Eight Days a Week".
@@elisageorge1798 Well first of all, I don't know who the second band is you're talking about, I only said The Beatles knocked this song out of the #1 position. If you're talking about Gary Lewis and the Playboys, as I said, The Temptations took the #1 spot from them with this song. And as far as The Beatles go, no I don't believe it. And here's why. Starting 7 years after The Beatles broke up (1977), six live Beatles albums were released, three of them hit the top ten in the U.S., the last one to chart here was in 2013, all three went Platinum. After they broke up 8 albums of compilations of their recordings hit the top ten, again all going platinum. Another 4 hit the top 25 and the last one to make the charts was also in 2013. Five boxed sets charted in the top 50 between 2004 and 2013. Their last single that charted in the U.S, was six years after they broke up. On the other hand, The Temptations last song in the top ten was in 1972. They had 37 top 40 songs and 4 #1 hits compared to The Beatles 50 top 40 and 20 #1's. And The Beatles only recorded for less than eight years. So, while I love The Temptations and have loved them since I bought my first Temptations single back in early 1965 (My Girl), I still have to consider reality in choosing what to believe. It's all speculative and subjective anyway, so no disrespect meant to what you choose to believe.
@@MikeyA5693 Not in my hood back in the day. White people in America put The Beatles up there. Majority of black people wasn't digging them.. Black people didn't even talk about the Beatles round my way. I saw old videos of white people jumping up and down going crazy over The Beatles 😂 While most black people was about Marvin Gaye,The Temptations,The Four Tops Bobby Womack,Johnnie Taylor ,and such.
I'm glad you mentioned that looking at the dance moves in this song because that very topic is one of the things that made Motown such a great place and allow them to have such a long and and great history with their groups in their all of their singers whether they're and a group or some other format because everybody and Motown learned dancing they had to learn to choreograph the choreography for each song and they danced with each song they sang The Temptations was probably the one of the first in the greatest to do that but that's a staple in every Motown hit just look at any Motown artists that you review and watch them dance.
Love the Temptations music. This is part of the Motown era & they had a lot of hits in the 60's - 80's such as "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "I Wish It Would Rain", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)", "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Treat Her Like A Lady", "My Girl" etc. They were known for their harmonies, choreography & dress style.
Big hit from 1965. I love the Temptations. I love all their music. I had the privilege of talking to Dennis Edwards many years ago. Actually, I ran into him twice. He lived in my area at the time and went to the same Doctor as me. I got to talk to him in the waiting room. Really nice guy.
Great reaction. They are definitely the originals here. I met Eddie Kendricks when I was a kid. Then later on as a grown woman, I met Dennis Edwards who took the place of David Ruffin. It is Dennis Edwards singing lead on Papa was a Rolling Stone. Have a great day.
@@denniscerasoli6209 I think this is from the movie I think the guy singing is Louis price. His voice was used in the movie for David ruffins part. Just checked this out online. Clearly that that is not David voice or the temptations on background vocals
Finally y’all are reacting to REAL music Black classic soul. The Temptations can be considered greatest group of all time. Them and NE have the most talent in a group in history. Y’all have heard Dennis Papa Was A Rollin Stone, David with My Girl, haven’t even heard incredible Eddie Kendricks, etc.
I love those dance moves, I think that is so cool how the lead singer sang and the back ups did the moves, I found that fascinating. those groups had talent and knew the steps and right together. love to watch them
Anytime I hear this song I want to cry. Watching "The Temptations", and documentaries, of these men make you love them and cry for their loss. Beautiful song.
Can anyone even imagine! a song like this being written today ? I sincerely hope there are people under the age of 30 listening to your reactions ~ Thank you again ~ for reacting to and bringing some great music into peoples lives who wouldn't normally hear it.
So many great artist came out of Motown , I grew up listening to all these wonderful musical performers. Thank you for helping to revive Motown music. We need happy good feeling music brought back into the American people, Long liv Motown.👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏
THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL!!! I'm not even sure if it's the Temptations. It sounds like a cover. Even the opening bassline -- the most iconic part of the whole song -- is missing!!! This might be a track from the Broadway musical. But I guarantee you this is not the Temptations, and it sure as hell is not the original studio recording, or even a remix. Believe me, I've played "My Girl" by the Temptations on the radio about a thousand times, and THIS AIN'T IT!! We're SEEING the Temptations in the video, but we're not HEARING the Temptations in the audio. Go find the video where you can actually see them singing in the studio. It's on RU-vid. Here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MOiK9C2-eb8.html Probably the most iconic song to come out of Motown Records in the '60s, and undoubtedly the most iconic bassline intro of any song in pop music history. Easily one of the top 5 soul songs of all time. A few other Temptations songs worth hearing include: "Psychedelic Shack," "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)," "Ain't too Proud to Beg," and "I Wish It Would Rain." I could go on and on listing more, but those are four of their best. ("Psychedelic Shack" often gets overlooked by people recalling their music, but it's iconic because it's so representative of the period in which it was released.)
The Funk Brothers was the sessions band and great musicians behind the sound of Motown. A must see documentary about these musicians is 'Standing in the Shadow of Motown'.
From Motown’s greatest group’s, 1964 “ The Temptation’s! “ I met my now husband this year, he was 17 & I was 15. The 60’s music takes me back to those wonderful year’s!👍🥰🌺♥️🌹🌹
Shawn and Mel, my dad was lucky enough to see both The Temptations and The Four Tops. He was a kid and he still talks about it to this day. My mother and father are high school sweethearts and they would listen to their music on their dates :)
Please react to the original studio version of this song. If you thought this cover version was a 10 be prepared to have to your mind blown when you listen to the real deal!
My father and I danced to this song, he had the first dance, during my wedding reception. My father has since passed and this brought back the best, loving and fond memories ❤️ Thank you so much ❤️
This is David Ruffins' 2nd best vocals, the #1 being Ain't Too Proud To Beg, IMHO. My Girl was the first song I heard of the Temptations when it came out that made me fall in love with their sound. It has always been one of my favorites and to this day cannot sit still when I hear it. I must sing along and move to it.
I've sung this song to my 32-year-old daughter, Melissa, since she was a little girl. My Mama always called her "My Girl." "Just My Imagination" is one of my favorite Temps songs.
This is the original line up. I love this song and David Ruffin was my favorite Temptation! This song was released in 1965, before I was born but I love this music! This was my parents music and was always playing in the house when I was a kid!❤❤
When Motown's music started to travel to Europe, the songs were translated to different languages, this song was called Mein Girl in German. The Supremes, (Where Did Our Love Go in German) The Velvetlettes (You Lost The Sweetest Boy in French) & Stevie Wonder (Yester Me, Yester You, Yesterday in Italian) I really enjoyed your reactions! Stay safe and take care! Sandy.
This is some of the music of my girlhood. How many times did I walk home from school singing "My Girl" to myself? I loved Motown and when I think of Soul in the 60s, right away I think, "Temptations, Four Tops, O'Jays." Many other greats, of course, like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles! SO much great music. Also, back then "Top 40" and Soul radio stations didn't just play what was current. They played the "oldies," so these songs were on the radio for years, happily!
I'm always astonished when people say that they've never heard of certain Superstars & Iconic groups. Where have you all been? The great thing is, you know them now. And are helping keep this wonderful music alive. 🎶
At one time there was two Temptations groups. One led by David Ruffin and one lead by Eddie Kendrick. After felled out with the original group, he started a group of his with the same name.
I was 10 years old and I bought this album for my 7 year old brother for a Christmas present, I think I spent $5, which was more than my allowance....wow, that memory just now came to me right after I clicked on your channel! thumbs up, great reaction...
I just started high school in 1965 when My Girl it the charts. We used to dance to it in the gym at lunchtime and we did 'The Temptation Walk'. Beautiful song and David Ruffin was the man!
The Temptations are still touring with only one of the original members. They still sound great! Still do the dance moves, maybe without as much vigor, but hey, their songs are so wonderful, who cares!
The Temptations have many hits great hits like my girl the song that tells the story of many men and it's my favorite song I hope you get a chance to review it it's called Papa Was a Rolling Stone. I guarantee you if you review that song you'll absolutely love the story that song tells because it's so true with so many men growing up.
I’m in my 60s… I remember..I was little I was Whit my dad..in a ford falcon 1964..I remember my dad was singing..it.. my dad love this song….rip dad 3/2/22🇺🇸
