I'm English, live England, UK. I saw Thelonious, play on his first visit to England ( 1961 ) at Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England. Other half of this Concert was Art Blakey Jazz Messengers, In the Messengers was : Lee Morgan and Bobby Timmons. Sorry for being boringly nostalgic. Peace to all.
@@paulqueen1689 Thanks for your reply/message. Unfortunately there is no videos of this/these, two concerts. Fortunately there is a CD, of The Jazz Messengers, recorded at this concert. Best wishes.
I have heard stories from my elders who saw him and met him at Ronnie Scotts in the sixties. And they recant whohe actually was as a person. Like limited others a genius and a dope head at the tiime.

Im a 40 year long Jazz fan. crying at this joint! America didnt recognise the genius in their citizens because of colour. They had to go to Europe for a bit of respect. The am ount of reference and revrance to Classical, and early 20th century songs is just beyond!
awesome to see Monk's hands while he's playing--all those crazy crossovers!--so many films focus on his face, which is maddening, esp. for pianists who are watching!
"My dad loved to play “Happy Birthday” for people he was close to. So on their birthdays he would show up at their house and play it for them. Each time it was a completely different arrangement." "In 1956 he brought a brand-new black and white Buick. He named it the “Piebald Beetle.” He drove it for about 2-3 months and then it was stolen. It was returned in perfect condition. My father said the vibrations in the car had changed and he never drove it again." by His Son T.S. Monk 30:31 [Jazz Org Blog]
Wow! He is amazing. Grew up listening to his music on the Voice of America Jazz show hosted by Willis Conover in the 60s. Great to see him at his peak.
@@georgevouros upgrade to premiun? give more money to theses big tech assh**es? are u nuts!? Its not like artists on ytb would recive a fair amount of it anyway........
Increíble!!! gracias por colorear estos increíbles documentos musicales, por otro lado Monk y su música,Monk y sus músicos y Monk y su universo.. simplemente genial!!
whole band is dope thanks for the upload folks can compare quality btween this version & the isolated version of "round midnight" which pales in comparison. so double thanks for the upload 🔥
@@ebjazz93 Awesome. In my opinion, if the colorizing was too clean or digital looking, it would take away from the fact that these ARE black and white films. So I love that they look "colorized" rather than actual color film. It's a unique look that's now lost. Anyway, thanks for the info and keep up the good work!
