Dude, i freaking love you. Every time i look up a song, here you are. Never fails. Amazing body of work you have. Now lets learn that Them Bones solo.....
I’m always amazed no one talks about the time signature for this song. It’s what gives it the groove that it has. The main riff just wouldn’t be the same in 4/4.
I play this song with my band, which is a 90s Grunge / Hardrock / partly Stoner Rock Tribute Band! We are one of the very few bands in Germany who play these wonderful Tunes of the 90s!!!! This is second generation classic rock!!!
Jerry Cantrell actually STRUMS the heavy palm muted first riff. He doesn't do the obvious metal thing with all down strokes. There's a killer live video of this song from '93 and the music video to check with. It actually makes keeping time with the 7/4 rhythm WAY easier. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.
I played drums for couple years and this helps so much in feeling the rhythm! I don't have a problem with understanding the odd time signatures (like Tool for example) but I struggle with grabbing chords:/
hey Carl ! Please do A lesson on Ride The Lightning from Metallica , since we cant find any appropriate one (riff) ,it'll be really appreciated and useful
i use ultimate guitar tabs for songs and i also watch your videos , and you seem to have different way to play stuff, do you use tabs or just play by ear?
thanx carl, this song is so badass! such strange but infectious riffs! alice in chains never should have been considered a grunge band, they clearly were a metal band imo...with a big blues influence as well!
