Everyone who is thinking about heading off around Oz should watch this video. You really covered most of the important issues very well. The hardest thing we had to do before heading off was making up our minds to do it. If you can, do it while you are young enough to really enjoy it. I started when I was 37 and although I am 59 now, I doubt I would be able to do it again. Do a test trip first and don`t let lack of money stop you. We had just $5k in the bank when we started and only had city job experience. We travelled in a 1962 bus that broke down several times but it was the best experience of our lives.
@mountainconstructions
@mountainconstructions 5 лет назад
That is awesome! Geez, i have had $300K in the bank and worry Yet when i first travelled, was a Hiace Van on LPG, fill up was $30, Box of beer was $40, free camped 95% of the time...... Cheaper than staying home

@@mountainconstructions We had to find work as we went round because for the first 3 years we wee also supporting a mortgage. Interest rates back then were crippling too. So it shows that just about anyone can do it if they want to enough :) In the end we got rid of the house and have been debt free ever since.
@mountainconstructions
@mountainconstructions 5 лет назад
Yes, i remember those interest rates! I was paying 22% on a car loan.... I think home loans were 16.5% Home Owners Grant...., what??? Yup, we missed everything perfectly, paying high interest rates, then missing out on the free money grants... And kids think its hard today.... bahahahah

One thing I would be careful about in terms security from theft etc , is not to leave your keys to your vehicles etc . . in your van where they could be easily found . . while living out bush up north went on motor bike trip further down the track & at a roadside stop was approached by a fellow asking if I had seen his described vehicle . . that had just been stolen from the camp ground , they had left their 4wd keys on their caravan table & went to the roadside pub , the vehicle I heard later was recovered worse for wear in a remote aboriginal community

Very well spoken and all great points The D22 is a strong engine, better than the D40 Do you run Fuel Pre Filters or Water Separators? On the coolant front, pls run a Engine Alarm (third party sensor), to monitor the presence of coolant and its current temp. They have an audible alarm if that engine dumps coolant. You can not trust an OEM temp gauge
@Sparkysontheloose
@Sparkysontheloose 5 лет назад
Yeah I've noticed the OEM guage barely moves, I just recently installed an Exhaust temp and boost gauge. I was tempted with an aftermarket water but I thought the exhaust should let me know about abnormalities.

Hi both. For the heater check this man out. Great tips and fix. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tvwmU_CcmGI.html I hope you do not go home and settle in and not get on the road again. We love your videos. Great tips. I am working on the van brakes. And the tip you had was great. I come up with a few. Painting under been a bit of work but worth it. Great beach. Taking about taking stuff. I had a old couple come over to the tent when fly fishing. In there 80's. Did not take anything but all my drinks out of the esky. I had to laugh and say they could have doing it hard. I have installed a power switch above my head in bed so i can turn power on and off for the heater. When you get home do not sell the van. Just over haul. And i hope one day will catch up. Russell and Carolyn

@Sparkysontheloose 5 лет назад
G'day Russ!! We installed the heater with no problems and it's amazing!!! Really powerful and fuel efficient, let's just see if it handles the dirt roads. I think in the end money is going to be an issue, we would love to keep going but don't want to head down the sponsor path. At this stage we have no idea what we are doing haha. I've got to respray the underbody as well, lots of stone chips. Thanks for the kind words guys 🤙🤙

Have a look a the man. He talks about intake filter. Increase pipe size and not using the intake that supplied with the heater. Its noisy and does not work well. Its bloody cold and i will have the heater put in over xmas. I been under the van painting. Have you seen the new rules in nsw with breakaway switch and voltage monitoring in car. You can use the caravan batteries has long it has a vehicle charge cable. I think this will come in all states. Maybe you do a talk on basic meals you do. This helps with outback shopping. I love scotch with a strong cheese added at the end. Just melted. As for not agreeing with each other we all do this but i can see you two work well. Good family makes good love. If male gets on with mum. And female gets on with dad. Then you will get on. For the oysters well there great and i can not get out there. I am also taking a some kind of food smoker.

I haven't seen the new rules yet, I'm surprised all the nomads are not up in arms on Facebook about it haha. I guess safety is a good thing, we don't have it installed but if I knew at the start I'd put it in. I love scotch also, still new to the taste buds but getting there. I've tried smoking into he vicpit but it's hard enough normally cooking in it.

Like U say U R not overseas and in Australia where everyone speaks English and the culture is the same................U sound like U have permanently moved to Russia or something the way U R dwelling on it. Living in Melbourne most people I know have met partners while travelling abroad ( often in the U.K.) and Melb to the U.K. is the longest continuous flight in the world so stop your whining. All these people I know have met and married a U.K. citizen to they either have to live in the U.K. or Australia and one has to do the regular long haul flight to see family. Flights to all the capitals of Australia R cheap so U R never that far away from family........P.S. I love your dog.
@Sparkysontheloose
@Sparkysontheloose 5 лет назад
From Perth to Brisbane it's a 45hour drive in a straight line so yes it does feel like we're in Russia. If I have to jump on a plane to see family then I might as well be overseas, the prices of international flights aren't much different from domestic in most cases. Half of Kurt's family lives in the UK which he has flown the trip 5 times in the past. We're not whining, more just making a point that it's a long way from home once you're on the trip.
