Gunsmoke was my favorite western. My family faithfully tuned in every Thursday nights. I love the black and white episodes, especially the 30 minute versions. 🎸👍
I fell in love with Gunsmoke when my Hubby introduced me to the show. We watch it every day, 3x a day! Gunsmoke in my opinion is the best running Western ever made! I'm in my 50's and my Hubby is in his 70's and this is one show we enjoy so much together.❤
I watched 3 episodes today myself on INSP network, I'm 53, remember watching it wit my Dad in the 70s....never seen any of theses episodes from 50s and 60s, it's like a new series to me...the best
When acting required real talent, stories had American values, parents and kids spent time together and we had hero's or tv...there was Gunsmoke...NEVER forgotten by those of us who knew what valuable and heartfelt meant.
Love and miss everyone of them. Grew up watching them as a little girl. So fortunate that I was born on James Arness and John Wayne Birthdays May 26th my 2 favorite hero’s. May they all Rest In Peace 🕊 GunSmoke will always be my favorite series of all. Thank you for sharing this video and God Bless. There will never be another Beautiful Show like GunSmoke ever again 💙
It's really sad that the actors who played the characters that we get to know and love are all dead, but at least they will be remembered on "Gunsmoke".
When I was six years old, I wrote a letter to tell James Arness how much his character meant to me, and how much I enjoyed Gunsmoke. (yes..I had an adult library card at age 5..with supervision) I was surprised by a letter in the mail ...a blue envelope with blue stationary paper from James Arness, who thanked me for watching Gunsmoke, and made a few comments of encouragement. I was ecstatic. I was also shocked. I never thought that the real James Arness would write someone like me. He actually wrote the note himself, and his handwriting wasn't polished into fancy script. It was genuinely hand-written, and wasn't much better than my own. That meant a lot to me...the fact that he took the time to sit and write a letter to a kid he would never know...who was just another body watching him on a magical screen. For that gesture, I admired him even more. I miss him. He was my first, and foremost hero.
I actually misspelled stationery...I know someone would catch that and make a comment, so I'm correcting it Here. My heart got in the way of my brain, and I flubbed.
There was no greater show on earth! All the most famous people were on Gunsmoke! The greatest character actors which are real stars to be rememberd forever. The most beautiful women I have ever seen and the gorgeous Amanda! Real people with real lives, great writers that understood human nature and understanding. The real old wild west. Matt Dillon may have been created with a lot of history about the great James Butler Hickok the tall dark handsome Marshall from Abeline, Kansas.
Gunsmoke was always worth watching!! I enjoyed watching every episode, altho some were better than others. The cast was perfection. People who argue over who's dead, who is not, how they died, even when they died, it's not important people!!! The important thing to remember is a perfect cast of actors/actresses portrayed characters that are remembered to this day, and beyond. Gunsmoke, and the entire cast, gave so many fans endless entertainment over the years, and that my friends, is all you need to remember about Gunsmoke. Remember Matt, Miss Kitty, Festus, Sam and Doc, and the countless guest stars over the many years. We were all so fortunate to be able to watch entertainment history in the making. I continue to watch Gunsmoke every day and still enjoy every episode. Shows like Gunsmoke, of TV entertainment history, are so much better than what's available today to bore us who still like to watch TV. I am nearly 80 years old, so I grew up without TV, the radio was my entertainment when I was young. My Father bought the first TV set in our town to put in our Restaurant to bring in more customers, and it certainly did that in spades. The problem was they would eat a sandwich very slowly so they could stay to watch TV for as long as possible. I hated to go home at night and leave that wonderful TV in a dark Restaurant, but had no choice. A couple of years later Dad got one for our home too. A very small screen, only black and white programs, but what a wonderful, beautiful TV, and all our own. It was heaven. Good memories are the most wonderful things in the world. TV, and shows like Gunsmoke, are part of my beautiful memories, and they always will be.
I loved all of these guys growing up and into my adulthood. There's a rule in the household. 'When Gunsmoke is on, don't interrupt me And George Foreman will agree on that.
Linda Warren, yes it is too bad. I never used anyone and am a nice guy. No girl friend, women always seem to go for the lying rat that uses them. That is the way it goes!
Hi, can anyone please tell me what the lady is saying at 1:36? I put on CC, and that jumbled! I heard this part: "Reporters say she left the show before the final season because.....and I can't make out the next part. It sounds like the woman is saying "A brief from glit strange." Which makes no sense! I loved this show so much, growing up and it's nice to be able to watch it again!
I'm 34 so this was before my time, but I watch it on ME tv all the time. I wish Mat and Kitty got married in real life. It just makes my heart melt watching those 2 together.
While some of the duties overlap, the jail custodian and the deputy, which Festus was, is quite different; and Festus eventually was the Official Deputy ~ ~ ~
This is a terribly incomplete summary of the cast members activities. For example, they fail to mention KenCurtises most prominent previous position, that of the lead singer of the Sons of the Pioneers. Granted, you can't mention everything, but you should at least mention the most important things.
Wrong, Season2 Episode2 "Jump For Joy": A strip joint's owner Chubby (Burt Reynolds) will lend Earl money if he can convince Catalina to return to work there. So yes, he did appear on my name is earl...
the last episode was titled "The Sharecroppers " staring Victor French and Bruce Boxlieter. lt first aired on 3~31~75. French played a lazy big talking sharecropper named Dibble Pugh. The last line of the episode is "I'm a terrible fierce worker oncet l put my mind to it." spoken by French.
There were two Gunsmokes, really. Chester's departure and Festus' arrival divide the two shows. For me, Festus chewed the scenery, which became very tiresome. Also, the writers decided that Gunsmoke would be family entertainment, nothing like the "noirish" look and feel that it had in the b&w 30-minute episodes. But, for those who were there at the beginning, those first nine years still give meaning to "TV's Golden Age."
the B&W episodes early on were the best. I think James Arness did his best acting then. He was loose, more relaxed. this was the time they should have developed a relationship with Kitty, whether it be marriage or a kiss now n again. If there was a failing in the 20 yr run, that was it.
I liked them all, and have probably seen them all at least two or three times now, but never tire of seeing them on ME-TV these days. I'm grateful for the opportunity to see them actually, and hope they continue on for a long long time.
