If you understand how he makes it groove the way it does and can feel it with your own music you can. But very few understand this pull and push / ying and yang flow of rhythm that's goes beyond simpling undertsanding music theory. Its years of experience and best way i can explain it is its like a pendulum where every sound has to add to the overall rhythm no matter what, anything that might be good that slighly throws the rhythm off has to go
