It would be nice if you gave more of an integrated application. The angle between two pegs seems to be of no use unless your know the distance from the Theodolite plumb to one of the pegs.
Hi david. thanks for excelent tutorial you running,,, very clear explainations , i very much appreciate ,,, please tell us why do we need to know the horozontal and vertival angle of a building ? to determine whats ?
I often wonder what these instruments are, as I often see them when I’m out and about. Now I know. Thanks for the post. I’m currently reading a book ‘Cold’ by Ranulph Fiennes, and he’s mentioned Theodolite a few times. I suppose his is a much portable unit, as he uses it on a boat, with rough weather.
Thanks a million sir. But i have already measured horizontal angle and vertical angle with a horiontal distance and elevation; how can i generate a contour map (topo map of that area) and coordinates????????????????????
i was used to theodolites with the vertical angle starting at zero at the horizon with positive angle of inclination and negative angle of depression. our new theodolite starts at 90 degrees which highly annoys me. i am looking for videos to help me to revise the settings but i just found out right now that you guys also use 90 degrees as starter!
using the theodolite itself won't help you in constructing the building but every construction has to start with reconnaissance surveys as it is needed in the designs. difference in elevations around the construction site is determined using theodolite.
yeah that theodolite measures elevation so u have to convert to zenith if it was on the first or second quadrant 90-Angle u got if it i was on 3rd or 4th quadrant 270-angle obtained
I really hope you will answer my question so here goes. Say you are surveying a area with a instrument much like the one in the video but it has no built in compass, how do you determine true north? As with many Berger type transits which measure great but have no compass yet surveyors used them all the time years back.
The instrument has no built in compass, you must align it with previously established pegs with know co-ordinates and as stated below use solar angles. This type would not use GPS
