His voice usually has a heavy bass to it. Every live performance I've watched, he sings all songs like this. He's not a bad vocalist, he just sounds like an entirely different person on studio compared to live.
You basically just called him a bad vocalist without realizing it. You said Hes only good in studio when he gets several takes to get it right and has a audio engineer putting multiple plugins and several layered vocal tracks to hide his inability to sing good consistently. If you cant sing good live then im afraid to say that you are not a good vocalist.
