I've listened to this song hundreds of times on RU-vid but never read any of the comments. Today I did. I had to stop everything I was doing...I'm sitting down right now with tears in my eyes because of how inspirational all of your comments are. On June 30th I'm coming up on one year clean from just about any and everything but mainly abandoning my children. I'm proud to say that I have all of them with me in our own home and I'm getting ready for work...well was before I read these beautiful comments. My sobriety and my family is my world and I'm so happy for all of you who have also found a way out.

The thing is, you can “medicate” yourself with anything. Some people over eat, some people zone out with movies, video games, oversleep just to avoid the pain of life. Whatever you are struggling with whether it be an activity, drugs, or alcohol... just know, you can get through this!

As long as he wants help he can get it... Not everybody is ready when you are.. the let him know you are there when he is ready to get clean and change his life. if it's opiates, tell him there are ways that he can get clean without going through withdrawal... Try to destigmatize methadone and Suboxone maintenance. At least it's keeping our people alive. Some people need that crutch

I started with oxy's, perc's, and benzo's and once the lady i got them from died and couldn't get them anymore i started snorting heroin and quickly evolved to shooting it. I died 3 separate times and was brought back and fell out about 10 times. Im very lucky but my sons mom, best friend, uncle, and about 20 other people I knew weren't. I was fucked up for about 12 years and 6 prison trips before I told myself enough is enough. I can now live my life without waking up sick and not knowing where my next fix is gonna come from. I'm 6 years clean, I have a great job, and I can walk around holding my head up high without people looking at me like I'm a piece of shit. Yes I take a suboxone pill everyday and some people say thats not being clean but I live a regular life and work a good job and pay my bill just like someone with depression who takes a prosac pill everyday. Im alive and I can smile when I look in the mirror, to me thats success.

Congratulations man, I was never on heroin but I was on painkillers really bad. Anything with hydrocodone in it and I'd take it, got to where I was taking 10 plus a day like it was nothing. Took them everyday for 12 years, and that was the sickest I ever been in my life coming off them. I came off of them cold turkey, no rehab or nothing and still went to work everyday. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but I've been off them for a year now and I'm doing great! It was the absolute best decision I ever made, it took me losing my mom to realize that I needed to straighten up. She had been asking me to get clean for years, and I never would even try. So when she passed I decided I was gonna get clean for her, and tbh if it wasn't for me constantly telling myself that I'm doing it for my mom i don't think I would've ever got clean. Just stay strong bro, and just keep working on improving yourself. The battle has only just begun, it's a struggle everyday to stay clean. Best way I found to stay clean is to stay away from anybody that takes them, cause with u being around it u will eventually slip up and take one.

I somehow stumbled across this song for the first time today and it is so crazy how relatable it is… I am recovering from being a binge drinker (my parents and both sets of grandparents were Alcoholics) and it is a difficult path of breaking that cycle for my children. Now I am on anti depressants and smoke a lot of weed to try and survive my day…

Be patient with yourself, believe in yourself. I'm coming up on ten years, clean off all hard substances. Lost everything, worked my ass off and got my kids back. Worked on myself and repairing all the bridges I burnt, when I was "going hard". Thankful to be Alive, thankful for my sobriety and thankful to see people out here doing it!!!!

I know the song's about drug culture and drug abuse, but as someone who suffers from anxiety and has a family history of depression, I can't help but relate to the lines about "Why oh why can't you just fix me" and "Why oh why does God hate me". Seems like when you get fucked in the head, those are the first two questions we all ask.

Freakin love this song. Can definitely relate. Today marks 117 days sober for me. Had a bad problem for a little over a year with fentanyl. I’m lucky I was able to get myself into a 30 day treatment center when I did. Lord only knows if I’d still be here if I hadn’t gotten help when I did. I’ve struggled with drugs most of my teenage life. Started smoking weed around 12 to 13 years old e everyday, and then turned into doing my parents pain killers then started doing meth also used Xanax for a long time, pretty much did every drug you can think of and then the latest was the fentanyl. I’m just thankful to be off of everything now and to be living life on life’s terms instead of worrying about where my next high was going to come from. To anybody still struggling there is hope. You can do it!!!

The only reason I ever did drugs was because I was bored. My boredom became a fun time and to impress people I did more and more things at a bigger and bigger pace. Coke subs molly crack heroine painkillers weed shit anything that got me high. I loved fentanyl and I'm only 22 years old and have fucked up teeth. You think it's all fun and games in the moment. You feel like king shit when your able to speed ball for 5 days straight no sleep without over dosing but yeah in the end people do drugs out of boredom. They find their own reasons for continuing hiding pain or whatever but at the end of the day they started because they were bored.

Many years ago I tried to like meth and did it for a little while (for some stupid reason) but after a while I had a really bad reaction that forced me to stop, but it caused some type of brain damage or something that got better with time thankfully. I really love this song, and I remember the first time I ever heard it. We (my hubby, our son, and our son's fiancee) were driving back to our hometown for some kind of family thing and the song came on the radio. I didn't start catching the lyrics until halfway through the song and it was like a ton of bricks. This song is, quite literally, my "hometown anthem" because it describes the daily life of pretty much everyone I know from back home. That's also why we left ( we moved to the beach, got a good jobs, and we've been down here for over a decade and love life immensely)...because we were sick of heading down that path and watching our friends go that direction, too.

congrats. i quit all drugs at 20, to keep a job, just dropped them. i miss weed for the pain, but that may still come to an end. drinking i stopped at 25, was half plowed after working on a jeep with a friend, got pulled over and pulled into a parking lot, rolled down my window and the cop yelled "HEY!" at me, he said i have a tail light out, fix it, i held out the package of bulbs, he said he has an urgent call and needs to go. he was 10-15ft from me, and i would have been ok on a blood test but not a breathalyzer. i got lucky, so lucky, i think it was all out. now, i have a shot of my moms favorite whiskey on her birthday, ill do the same for my dad, but thats all the drinking ill ever do. got a 52 year old bottle of black velvet for the next several years, and anothger just aging in the old sleeve. got a bottle of gentleman jack for when my dad passes. my sister follows the same pattern. im better off now, but i do hate that so few people can have a deep or meaningful conversation without being drunk

@@LittleLass64 Well, I arrest priests, pastors, preachers, ect, every year for actual crimes. They can be high on God all they want, but that doesn't mean they're not human beings and fallible creatures.

I lost a best friend to an opiate overdose. The day I got the phone call, this song was playing. He died Feb 14th 2018. Miss you buddy. Went to this concert that year. 🙏❤️

Opioids, the downfall of America. I got addicted to oxycodone and methadone in back in 2001 when it wasn't the epidemic that is is now. I was simply prescribed these medications by a doctor for back pain. If I had known then what I know now. Damn. After a 12 year addiction that almost destroyed my family, and numerous overdoses, I woke up on Oct, 25th, 2013 and told myself I was done. I never looked back. No rehab, no NA, nothing. I was just tired. I put the pills down and NEVER looked back. Rehab is USELESS unless you are ready to change. 5 years later, I feel better than I EVER have. If I can do it, ANYONE CAN.

Dont be so sure many have died trying. I'm 34 in active addiction for 19 years. My mother was the first one to put a needle in my arm. Been clean on methadone almost 4 years.

it almost was for me, but what generation learns to abuse drugs before cussing? this song seems written by a marketing team and lacks authenticity. i mean were they avoiding profanity to reach all of the underaged drug addicts that don't cuss? was that their target audience ... or is it just a bunch of buzzwords lacking any subsistence hoping to grab the tail end of someone's inferiority complex while jumping on a hot button issue? from my perspective someone who barely understood us sold out and tried to make us a marketable commodity.......personally i feel used by this song rather than "it gets me"

Just heard this on Octane on Sirius radio. Man, right away I thought of todays society and all the instant-gratification we're used of. Awesome song that touches on modern society.
