This is a premiere with the Contemporary Performance Ensemble at the Manhattan School of Music. I am super grateful to them for learning how to play this music and performing it with such great accuracy and detailed attention. I am especially thankful for our conductor, Allison Norris, for their study of the piece and several levels of consideration that I hadn't paid too much mind to.
This composition is in over-22, meaning it uses pitches derived from the harmonic series' partials 22-44. This undecimal harmonic modality is fascinating to me, and employing it brought out such beautiful tones I had never imagined before. The score was written in Helmholtz-Ellis Just Intonation Notation.
