Pox as an archetype still sees legacy play, they just play smallpox and other cards over the real Pox because the curve lines up better. It plays pretty similarly.
You should do a "Top ten most suprising potential top ten lists that don't have ten cards on them yet" as a preview of some interesting lists that may get filled out in the future
Turn 1: Swamp, Cast Dark Ritual, Cast Hypnotic Specter Turn 2: Swamp, Cast Hymn to Tourach, Attack with the Hippy. That will always be my favourite opening to games.
Pour one out for Dread Shade, by far the worst of the Dominaria CCC cards, which included Benalish Marshal, Tempest Djinn, Steel Leaf Champion and “best card in Standard for quite a while” Goblin Chainwhirler.
Unrelated: have you done a Top 10 Promos? Just picked up my Bloomburrow order and was reminded about how much of an impact Nexus of Fate had on Standard for being a Buy-a-Box promo. Had me wondering if there are enough impactful promos to have a list…..
Kaervek's Spite on a list...of good cards! I love it. I ran it in a sealed tourney way back in the day and won several games with it, it's a fun win or die kinda card. The flavor text is on point, too.
This list bring back me back. It's a list of all my decks across different formats. I played necropotence when it first came out. Everyone though it was bad because it got bad ratings in the previews from magazines like Inquest. Nothing like first turn swamp, dark ritual x2, hymn to tourach, necropotence, draw seven go. They banned dark ritual because of me (and all the other players doing this).
Speaking of Thassa's Oracle, your next mana cost top 10 should be UU: between Counterspell, Mana Drain and ThOracle I feel like it'll be full of neat cards
Finally! Honestly my favorite cost as esoteric and narrow thing as that is to say out loud! Was barely into the game on and off with friends who would come by and got heavy into 2011 Innistrad and fell in LOVE with Gerald's Messenger. I brew so much black and splashed black in Modern so I naturally adore Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, of course, and will find any excuse to put 1-3 in any deck to play around with heavier black casting costs.
Hmm, immediately thinking of Necropotence, Underworld Dreams, Doomsday, Pox, Kaervek's Spite and Necrodominance. Can't think of a single creature with that cost, oddly enough.
8:28 Pretty sure I’m one of very few people to actually cast Bridge from Below. It’s in my Baba Lasaga deck, and enchantments that I can sacrifice are worth their weight in gold. 😂
@@beno3686 The Book of Exalted Deeds is probably whites best card, but it’s still not that good. Entreat the Angels is an WWW if you make X=0, and has pretty good tournament results.
ive been playing a lotta archmage's charm in historic lately, which made me wonder if uuu could be a list, but im not sure theres even enough with that cost
So when it originally came out, would Necropotence just stop working if you had Library of Leng, since its original wording is "skip your discard phase"?
Not found it that hard tio cast a spell with 3 of the same color mana in it's spell cost so long as the deck was no more than two colors as usually given the the proliferation of dual color lands ( if if some are less ideal than others) make it easier than in day past to pull it off, still dicey to cast on curve though . 3 colors or more it gets increasingly difficult especially as you very unlikely to be able to cast it on curve.
I used to play Pox in a deck with Death Cloud, Endless Whispers and Bronzed Bombshell. Keep the field and life down while being aggressive with the Bombshell and Whispers on the Field, take four or seven by killing my Bombshell?? Choice is yours.
@@PsychoDiesel48 EXACTLY. Very much a "Saw" deck. We're all going to pay a price, but who wants to pay the biggest to win??? I had to splash blue and cards like Recoil to deal with big life gainers and combo pieces.
Whoa, Kaervek’s Spite could easily be on the worst list. It’s both! So could ‘Infernal Contract’. The one that reads, ‘search target opponents deck for 3 cards and remove them from the game’ just wants to make you quite magic, and I don’t even play combo decks, so do many of the cards that let you draw pretty much unlimited cards. . .
Doomsday is a niche, glass cannon spell. Necropotence is the most powerful, game-warping card ever printed. Not sure why the former is ranked ahead of the latter.
Mostly because the former isn't restricted and wins the game on the spot pretty trivially. Necropotence could PROBABLY be unrestricted in current Vintage, but it's largely just a thing that Doomsday has as a backup plan. Necro also has a hidden downside of "You can't put Lurrus as your companion", which is a pretty enormous downside in Vintage.
@lane9668 yeah, you have to be joking to think necro, that has a lower chance of winning the game than a bad Doomsday pile, is worth not playing lurrus.
@@elijahlyons8164 Yeah. Necro is just kinda being free rolled in Doomsday because it's a deck playing 4x Dark Rituals and not playing Lurrus (bc of Street Wraith). Some of the other fringe decks like dedicated Storm play Necro as well. I don't think Necro is particularly strong in the modern Vintage landscape given how overbearing artifact based combo and Lurrus control are. Even in Doomsday, it's there because there's basically no cost of inclusion, and sometimes it wins you games. If I'm against Doomsday and my opponent casts dark ritual and I have no FoW, I'm happier to see Necro than Doomsday. I'd like to see Mind's Desire + Necro get unrestricted, maybe Yawg Will too, if only because I'd like to play more true storm in Vintage.
Academy def warped the game more than any other card. Its still one of the best cards in vintage and would be the best card ever if you had no restricted list.
The only restriction that comes with costing three mana of the same color is that you need a more expensive mana base. Color requirements aren't a restriction, they just mean the card is exclusively for the rich. It's like punishing a corporation with a fine--it isn't a penalty, it's the cost of doing business.
So, i have to say I really liked this list, but im already hiping that this is just a shadow from which sneaks a little series that does this kind of thing with the other colors, as I'd love to see this for Blue. Im not dumb enough to say Blue is at some kind of disadvantage, but in my (possibly ignorant) opinion, Blue isnt granted much for ramp, and a number of thinfs it likes to do also often want to bw able to happen during other people's turns, meaning holding up some mana to trigger them, like counters, so it could be a lot of fun to see Blue's biggest lots of Blue investments...eell, not the biggest, because Omniscience and Cyclonic Rift don't have three blue pips OR only three blue pips, but the idea's the same.😊
