I never looked into this plane. I always assumed it was stuck with the 45, so just used the ‘T’ where I wanted something with a big gun. I’ll have to go any spade it now!
The two 20mm and the 37mm is the best to hunt down bombers in ARB, in Ground the 45mm is decent if you can pen the enemy above but otherwise you have to be smart about it as it removes one 20mm
Im a fairly shite new player. Fully spaded mine today, tracers in the MGs, and AP in the cannon, ive never felt so lethal in this game. I love this plane.
In that case you can also try out that Japanese twin-engined fighter with the nose mounted 57mm. It can overpressure open tops in a single hit. One time I hit a Wirbelwind from probably almost 2km, taking it out in one hit 😄
The best part is how nervous some players become when you whiff your first shot. They KNOW you are throwing massive chunks of wood at them. They know they have no agility to shake you off.
Guide on Yak-9UT Guns: We'll be talking about pen from 500m as this is when you'll likely start your attack run and possibly pull out around 350m any closer and you run the risk of pancaking into the ground although you can get closer and still safely pull out terrain and map building play a part in this as well as your speed so 500m is a good rule of thumb but know you can get a bit closer on flat unobstructed terrain (unlikely). 23mm(22mm pen at 500m 0 Degrees): this is actually surprising but you can pen every and all Panthers using this, as well as all Jagdpanzers, t34's&ISU/SU, a few Shermans every medium tank in Japan, and Sweden. My favorite honestly as the high pen rounds lack the post pen to kill tanks but can be used to cripple heavy targets and help teammates on the ground secure kills. The 23mm's ive found can actually kill tanks on one pass if lucky and aimed correctly Also no extra SP cost which is nice 37mm(39mm pen at 500m 0 Degrees): Appears to be the worse of the 2 sacrificing the gun and gaining minimum pen, which ya... but the 37 can shoot API rounds which will cause fires on contact with engines and fuel tanks. it takes a bit of study but if you know where you shoot you can set tanks on fire 3 times and destroy them. it's a long and very precise process. The 37 can petty much pen everything at its br at 500m except tigers(kinda), jumbo shermans, and king tigers. 45mm(67mm pen at 500m 0 Degrees): NOTHING CAN RESIST YOUR PEN. Even king tigers will suffer critical damage after a pass but this comes at a price. No API you need to go for crew and components to do damage. it's very likely you won't kill anything unless you have a lot of practice and discipline. a direct hit with the 45mm can even at times only injure a crew member and not kill them but this is unlikely. it may not seem like much but with each crew member killed you can weaken the tank's ability to fight significantly. I almost always target heavy tanks in this configuration to give my team a fighting chance against super heavy tanks such as Jumbo Shermans, king tigers, Ferdinand, Jagdpanthers/tigers, Stumtigers, etc. basically if a 85mm can't easily pen it frontally or at all go, after it.(Sorry in advance German mains) The Yak-9UT is one of the strongest aircraft in the Russian tech tree. Its engine at low altitude is sufficient to out run and out energy almost any fighter you encounter. its turn speed is only bested by a few spitfires and japanese fighters in these cases use the plane's strong engine to stall them out, note that these planes have low stall speeds so make sure to maintain your own and stay out of their guns. I've played air RB for 5 years and I love this plane. Things to note as a fighter: Remember as a fighter you must go after enemy aircraft ALL THE TIME and cover ground attackers as they can do more catastrophic damage to the enemy. even mid-attack on a tank if you see an enemy plane disengage and go after it, you can save the lives of your fellow tankers and airmen by at least throwing off the aim of enemy planes. It's also good to note that planes do have high SP cost and destroying them before the enemy has a chance to kill anything almost always relegates them to SPAA and in some cases kicks them out of the game. If you see a bombers/attackers under attack by SPAA attack it from the opposite direction of its fire it's not paying attention and can grant you an easy kill especially if using the 23mm cannon setup, basically, your goal is to kick as many people out of the game in one fell swoop as possible or religate them to weaker tanks/SPAA HUGE NOTE: war thunder has a bug where if you have multiple cannon configurations set to armored targets they will be added onto the SP cost even if you don't have the current cannon equip idk if it's still an issue but look out for this.
One main thing about the 45 compared to the others, the velocity of Air Target rounds is almost the same as the B-20's velocity, making it more viable to shoot with. The 23 and 37 does not, as the rounds on it are slower and have noticeably more drop than the 45.
I wouldn't discount the 37mm so quickly, it has similar performance to the 45mm and you don't lose your 2nd 20mm cannon. You can still pen the roof of a tiger with the 37mm from 1KM. On the other hand, the dual 20mm's have less ammo per cannon meaning more 20mm trigger time if you use the 45mm.. Don't forget you can still destroy air targets with AP rounds aswell, a 45mm AP hitting a plane will almost always hit something vital and you don't have to roll the dice with realshatter.
For a brief time they actually changed the air 45mm to be APHE rounds. Not sure how historical that was but in the end they changed it back to solid shot. Maybe because of balance reason. It seems strange it wouldn’t have 45mm APHE rounds but at the same time it would completely break ground RB with how you can knock out vehicles with APHE rounds.
I personally prefer the Yak-P as it's .7br lower while still having access to the 2 more useful loadouts, as the 45mm is not that good on account of it's poor accuracy especially for followup shots.
@@yspear_ I’m just saying your argument makes no sense. Shooting down one Jet =/= Able to dogfight a Jet. That’s like saying I killed a Tiger with a BT-5 so the BT-5 is a super strong vehicle.
@@kimjanek646 it's set a stone that this thing is good, not the fact that it will win any dogfight with a jet but it can manage to take down a jet with good tactics and control, really nothing to debate
Depends. The Il-2 with the 37mm is low enough in BR to take out a lot of tanks from the side. But at the same time the flight performance is very bad since the guns and ammo are so heavy. You might just as well drop 100kg bombs on tanks, instead of using the cannons.
You should try out the he belts on the 50mm me410. You will always one shot open crew vehicles and if you bring the default belts, still retain the ability to kill heavy armor.
