That menu screen for the console edition gives me a lot of nostalgia. Me and my friends played it a lot and loved the mini-games. It's a shame Mojang didn't keep the great features this version had (custom superflat, more generation options etc...)
You can technically make a superflat world or a high amplified world it's just only people who had the legacy version can do it. They just have to import those world's to the newer version.
I mean in a lot of ways yes like tutorials mini games custom super flat etc but it doesn’t have 1.14+ so if you play mostly 1.13- on vanilla then it’s probably better but if you love the new features then it’s worse for me I like the old console editions more
@@person8168 yes, but if back then they decided that the console edition was better, and didn't discontinue it, they could've updated it to the latest features.
I remember this version! I had it on Switch, Xbox 360, and Wii U and wow it felt soo much better than bedrock did. The tutorial worlds and menu sound effects are probably some of the most memorable sounds. I remember even having the trial version on the Xbox. Good times
Especially on the switch Like i play half paying attention to it and i pause a LOT when playing on handhelds Not being able to pause is a deal breaker to me and the only reason why i dont play more
I'm one of the few people who have Switch Edition. My friends and I play Battle Mode every once in a while. I still use it to make custom super flats since you can port worlds to Bedrock.
sometimes i transfer my wii u worlds to switch edition then transfer those to bedrock on switch, cos its possible 2 mod certain things on Minecraft wii u edition
IF YOU OWN THIS VERSION PLEASE READ: I'm not sure if they made physical copies of this game or if they were only digital but whatever the case, Please be sure to hold on to this version of the game and consider sending it to a Games preservationist snd/or ROM dumper. We need as much archival Of this game as possible. This version of the game is very rarely recorded on any website and so many people don't know it exists. And as far as I know I haven't seen a single ram dump of this specific copy of Minecraft, ANYWHERE online. Please... If you feel comfortable dump this version of the game I'm begging I am one of few people that actually prefer the 4J ports of the game instead of the bedrock, And I really wish I could have gotten a copy of this game when It was available. Hell I even search sites that sell digital keys, And even none of them sell this version of the game. I'd be willing to pay $80 for the specific version of Minecraft Minecraft and maybe more. But the last has hasn't been very well preserved unfortunately on the Internet. Hopefully this Video will give this version of the game more of a voice
God, I miss the console edition. The 360 version was my first true Minecraft experience (other than PE lite and old school PE) so I hold a ton of nostalgia for this unique version and the hundreds of hours I spent playing with my brother and friends.
I remember playing the PlayStation version of Minecraft and I still believe that the way you used your inventory, crafted things, and UI was better than the one they make us use now
A version of Minecraft I'm very nostalgic for is the Pi Edition, however most people don't know what it is. It was the very first version of Minecraft I played.
It was the first version I ever played too, I know there’s barely anything you can do but I went back and looked at my old Pi edition worlds recently and it was an extremely nostalgic experience
Just got a huge dose of nostalgia after seeing the lobby area for the minigames. I remember looking around and finding all those secrets, or using the fishing rods in the rod minigame, or just tapping the noteblocks, or bouncing continuously on the slime blocks, or jumping round and round the fountain, or shooting the gold and diamond and iron blocks with buttons on them. Good times :)
I absolutely love the console edition and personally prefer it to bedrock however I think that the console edition of the game really helped Minecraft spread and become popular which led to bedrock edition which has a lot of awesome features that couldn't be on consoles before without such as realms, data packs, creator features, etc. Both editions are great and both will always hold a special place in my list of favorite games.
Just going to note here- Bedrock edition, is legitimately minecraft "pocket" edition, rebranded and set up to be used on every other system because microsoft wanted a universal option without the work of actually developing a version that would work on everything, and simply reworked the least functional- (and in turn least system intensive) version of minecraft to hit "all" audiences, including those who want to play on devices without sufficient 'power' to actually- you know- run the game properly, despite all 4j studios console editions being designed with eventual cross compatibility in mind.
@@crazyabe4571 That is not how it works, Pocket Edition is bad, not because it was orignally designed for phones, but because the MCPE development team post 1.0.6 have become increasingly lazy (interms of the quality of code) as more and more platforms were supported. It's an issue of mismanagement and bad code post release. Otherwise the "Pocket Edition" codebase is legitimately very good and much more future proof than both Console and Java (especially Java).
6:14 "This very concept of the customizable super flat world is of course exclusive to the switch edition... And/or console editions... And java." Sounds more like not having custom superflats is a bedrock exclusive lmao
tbh i'd say they're there on legacy console, half there on java, and barely there on bedrock they're properly implemented on console, with a working menu to let you create them. on Java you can make them but generally you kind of have to either remember exactly how, or do it outside the game, and on bedrock you can only make them by editing a world file or porting a legacy console world, and they will keep generating with the settings you selected, but you can't make them on bedrock.
I remember playing the old port of Minecraft on the PSP (which I'm pretty sure had the port on it) and I absolutely loved the features it came with. It's a shame it hasn't been adapted into any other versions of Minecraft we have today. I loved playing the minigames and dominated spleef and wing-gliding on the Wii-U. Also loved the built-in worlds like Super Mario or (iirc) Halo. Really brought me back.
I remember I used to play the demo of the xbox360 version of Minecraft over and over again with my brother, we would play the tutorial world and I remember sometimes forgetting to skip the tutorial and my brother would have to wait for me to finish. There would be a time limit and after the time was over we would restart the game to play again. It was like version 1.8 so all of the newer items like the elytra weren’t in the game. Those were the good old days.
Ahh yes, Toycat has all the classics on his Switch, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, New Horizons, and the undisputed masterpiece, the greatest game ever made...Ring Fit Adventure!
The old console editions felt more like Java than any other version. Bedrock just has so many quirks that make it feel different. It is also a fun way to relive an older update as well, which is always fun. This version is a relic and should be kept as such
Fun fact: the console editions aren't stuck in 1.12 they're stuck in 1.13 but you can't spawn many of the aquatic animals but if you go into survival mode you can still see the fishes and the new swimming animations and the tridents
You can also access this on PS4 if you bought it before it was updated to Bedrock Edition. (mid 2019, if I remember correctly). We bought it in early 2019 for PS4, and have an "Editions" button in the main menu that launches the PS4 edition. It's last update was Village and Pillage.
Wait so it’s *only* for people who had it for PS4 before Bedrock was ported? I knew that the versions were interchangeable but I thought everyone even if you bought the game today would get the PS4 and Bedrock edition of the game.
@@Hylian_Waffle Bedrock on Switch feels extremely forced to me. It still doesn't feel polished at all after years of being onsale. I know I mostly stuck with the original Switch Edition until I eventually got a PC which could handle Java Edition, which I've been playing ever since. What I especially find really interesting is even after years of being offsale, you can easily find lots of people playing minigames, and because the Switch lets you add people you've played with, you can basically build up a large list of Switch Edition players to play with. I think this is what keeps the Switch Edition alive, even though the community is unable to grow due to the game no longer being for sale.
I used the how to play back on the 360. The “What’s new” section would tell you what was in the new update. Very helpful for a 4th grader who didn’t understand the internet.
Weird that the Switch Edition doesn't have the Aquatic Update, the Xbox 360 had it, which is kinda funny to think about now that I remembered it. Also, to this day, the Legacy Console edition feels almost the same as Java Edition, while Bedrock feels slightly off, it's really weird to me. Luv for everyone playing their favorite version of Minecraft, may your worlds be bountiful.
Wiiu edition along with everything else was discontinued in 2019(Besides two versions that appearently lasted until 2020 somehow). My best guess is that they already knew they were never going to push bedrock onto outdated systems, so they left those versions alone until they fizzled out on their own.
I continue to be so happy that I bought this version back in 2017. I still play it way more than bedrock and have hundreds of hours invested in the world I made all the way back then. Nothing against bedrock really, I just like the comfort of a version that doesn't change. I remember I subscribed to you back in the PS3/360 days to follow news about all of the title updates for console.
I have this version of the game and let me tell you, I spent HOURS in the battle lobby finding little secrets. I also have 360 edition where I found a weird hole in the battle arena that wasn't on the switch, which was cool (they patched it out in a later update LOL).
I have a 4 year survival world that i started on this version, and I have always appreciated how well it ran. I wish there was something on bedrock to make it run like Console.
if u have a wii u u could mod it to get Minecraft for free but for the nintendo switch, someone would have to transfer their user to u so that u could play the game, or someone would have 2 sell their account oof
@@LinkNS i have the version on wii u but cant just take it anywhere and play on the go i wish someone would just allow me to "borrow" his account to install i wont even need the acc after
I have the old switch. Got it in 2017. Created a Minecraft world on Nintendo Switch edition, played on it for 3 years (eventually converted it into a realm). That was the main version of Minecraft that I've ever played. Good memories lol
@@Soops_Moth well i hope atleast someone trusts me since im sharing games with a few people (4) and i never even stole a single account i hope someone trusts me to isntall it
I remember I tried to buy a Minecraft switch console edition eshop code 2 years ago and it tried to redeem as Minecraft bedrock edition and there no physical carts for it. So if you didn’t buy it on the eshop before bedrock edition came out you can’t obtain the game on your switch anymore.
I thankfully bought switch edition on my bday in 2017. I shared a lot of memories with a lot of people. I made tons of friends everyday but with the release of the new version it got harder and harder to quickly fill worlds and that spark that connected us all went out
@@user-ku3sr7cl3u the sad thing about Xbox One edition is it’s actually the least updated home console legacy edition of Minecraft.. Xbox One edition only went up to Java 1.12 equivalence in features, while every other version of Minecraft for home consoles final updates were the Aquatic update/1.13 equivalence. I mean even the Xbox 360 got the Aquatic Update! Which means 360 version has more features than the Xbox One edition!
I loved the tutorial worlds. Each one had a castle already there for you. It was so pretty. I loved exploring them. I just did the little tutorial and then skipped the rest so I could go through and look at everything lol
when i update minecraft on my ps4 i can play old console from 2019 and its so nostalgic as i used to play it with my siblings and i can play so much old things with the custom world packs being FREE! (only official mojang ones but they were the best)
theres no easy way 2 get it oof, if u have a wii u instead then maybe just get it on their by modding a wii u but otherwise i dont have a clue, cos not every1 has a wii u edit: im mentioning wii u cos it also hss the mario mashup pack if i remember lol
This was my first ever version of Minecraft I owned, well not this one specifically but the PS3 one. Now, as a Java player, I think this is still my favorite edition. Something about it I just loved maybe it's just the nostalgia talking though
Image it's unlikely to be back as it was if available but it could be on Chromebook in some fashion or perhaps on the new Switch 2 as a hidden feature in perhaps a new version of the Minecraft menu secret area 2018-classic mod variant.
Thank you so much for making this video, I love Minecraft console edition and this is still the version that I actively play on my switch in my 5+ year old survival world I started on my Wii U, I have over 3,220 hours in this version of Minecraft and even played it earlier today. Seeing you bring light to this amazing version of the game makes me so happy, so thank you!
The nostalgia of minecraft on the Xbox 360 playing with my fiends. We once built a forest and played so many different kinds of games in it like a killing version of tag, hide and seek, etc… those were good times
This reminds me of PS4 version when and yes when you bought the game way before the update of mentioned before the newest updates you could go back into the OG minecraft and just have fun there if you wanted to but for anyone who bought any version of minecraft you have this going on. Talk about good old memories and yes i started minecraft late at least before the quality of life update happened, like 2018.
I'll always miss legacy console edition. Played on the 360 and One edition growing up. Not even for nostalgia reasons, I still prefer this version over bedrock. I'd probably play minecraft more on my Xbox if it was still the legacy version.
@@sacrificiallamb4568 well I still want to play the new updates. However I do go back every once in awhile. I play Java nowadays anyways so I don't miss out.
I have the original ps4 version, and there is an option for legacy edition which brings you to this. I think its perfect to go back to the tutorial world, the minigames, and just the original minecraft console.
I played console edition back in 2020 and was surprised that there were actually a decent amount of players in all three minigames. I wish some server would make a Java or Bedrock port of glide.
I'm pretty sure the Switch Version is nearly the same as the Wii U version of Minecraft, which I have. I was even able to do things like build floating Islands of sand, gravel, and anvils without any special support. The only thing you have to do is let ~20 sand fall onto a stone wall and no more sand can fall, until you break the wall.
I remember my friends and I would create superflat worlds of only tnt and then fighting with blast protection armor and flame bows. The lag prevention would make massively long tnt ravines from just a misplaced arrow or two.
I wish someone went through all the versions and ported the tutorial worlds to Bedrock or Java. I also loved the Easter eggs they put in to encourage you to explore in them
I miss that old version. It actually functioned properly. No 5 hour loading screen that randomly crashes, actually plays in 60FPS and not 20FPS, no market place. Oh and it actually had good mini games and not that the crappy servers we have now. And also yeah the tutorial worlds are wonderful for new players. I sorely miss that version. It was actually developed properly.
I miss glide! I used to have an xbox 360 and me and my friends would ALWAYS play glide together. Sadly i sold my 360 to get an xbox one and can no longer play minigames. I love the music for glide too.
this video hit a different spot i remember having the exact same UI in xbox console edition -wasnt out for long the same world creation and everything. nostalgia zone kinda moment you know?
I remember having this version on the Switch, and I remember freaking out over having a completely new version for 1.13 and having crossplay for the first time. I also remember being confused as to why the water had changed color and visibility lol. Bedrock on the Switch was the reason I made my Microsoft account.
I had minecraft wii u edition, which is the same version as the rest of the legacy console ones, including switch, and I'm 90% sure they actually did update to the aquatic update (or at least partially) as I remember the trident being added and messing around with it and them making a new tutorial world for the update, but maybe the Wii U version was different from the rest of the legacy console ones or something.
i remember buying it when i was like 8-9 and it was literally my childhood. i played this version so many times and i will never forgot coming home from school and just chilling for hours. then one morning i woke up and checked the switch news (yes i used to check that all the time) and it said new version of minecraft available and i downloaded it. played since then, honestly kinda miss the old version :(
You can still access the Console Edition on PS4 by clicking on Editions, which will take you back to the old version. Idk if other versions of the game, like Xbox or Pocket Edition, have this feature as well
That secret version of Minecraft on switch is the better game! I'm so pissed how they just canceled and abandoned it and the Xbox one edition for the inferior worse bedrock edition! The bugs, the lag, the bad performance and bad choices and decisions such as no exiting without saving and world sizing being too big make the bedrock version not fun. When I play Minecraft I play the Nintendo Switch edition. It runs better, it's designed for consoles, the visuals are better and it feels better overall. I miss this version of the game so much! I would have been more than happy if they got at least Update Aquatic like the Xbox 360 and Wii U did. That would have been satisfying for me. I absolutely hate that the 360 and Wii U edition have Update Aquatic and the Xbox One and Switch editions don't. They broke the game! They broke the feature of being able to transfer old worlds to the newer consoles because they were abandoned and outdated!
@@BoseManLuigi you didn't read a thing I said did you? Based? Are you implying Biased? No I played both versions and the bedrock version is inferior. I'm playing a phone game on a console. That's not a good thing
I bought dpc on the switch version. They transfered the packs when i first got bedrock edition, but i could only use them on my switch. At some point, those packs vanished, unrecoverable. Some werent even on the store.
I remember when I got Minecraft PS4 edition in 8 years ago it stopped getting updates around 2017 or 2018 and its probably my favourite version of vanilla Minecraft because modded I have no words for
I prefer the old version lol. It's such an oddity since its basically the low power Legacy Console Edition but with medium worlds, and also the lack of minigame maps.
I occasionally go on my PS3 for nostalgia (I play on switch now) and it has 1.13 for some reason...I remember logging in and it updated, I was much much later of an update than other systems but I still had it
Also, I had once made a huge world of TNT, that I tried to blowup not having knowledge of the limit on the amount of explosions and gravity falling...so I was heavily disappointed when it barley even blew up
I still play on this version to this day with my friends and I didn't know until now that it went offsale so I'm so glad and lucky that all of the friends I have on that version bought it in 13 months
I used to play the console editions when I was younger, and I still play Bedrock on PS4, so seeing all of this is really nostalgic. I'm pretty sure if you have a console that you didn't get Minecraft on digitally (like you actually have a disk) then you can go back to 1.14, but still with all the old stuff like custom superflats and tutorial worlds.
You are right, I have the old Minecraft disk for ps4, and it used to let me play the old version. For some reason tho it stopped letting me. It made me really sad, because I liked playing glide and I couldn't do it anymore.
So glad I got minecraft when I got my switch in 2017. That version is still superior despite not having the caves update, and I just got the disc version on ps5 (from ps4) and can play with amplified worlds on there instead of bedrock's lack of options. So now I have legacy on Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, AND PS5. The Golden Age of Minecraft was when 4J Studios were the only ones in charge.
Minecraft PlayStation 3 was my very first time I played Minecraft and this gives me nostalgia and reminds me of when I used the demo texture pack worlds like the Mass Effect, and LittleBigPlanet worlds.
I still have it thankfully! I own way to many editions of Minecraft- including a lot of legacy console editions, i do like bedrock for the cross play but damn I miss the old 4j style
Console edition is honestly underrated, the minigames had custom music and maps that had a lot of care put into them Also, the Wii U version is very easy to get in comparison, you can still play online even if you get it through hacking, and there's even voice chat included with the gamepad's microphone
I agree, Console Edition has a lot of things Bedrock Edition does not have. Like you said, official minigames, superflat worlds, tutorial worlds, and extreme nostalgia. Possibly the most nostalgia I've ever felt.
i bought the Nintendo switch version like a week or two before minecraft bedrock came out for switch knowing full well that i would get to up grade for free later
@David Garcia well I assume that once you have a custom rom set up on your Switch you just need to transfer a copy of the game to the Switch, probably via the microSD card you should've already bought for your Switch. I haven't hacked my Switch but I did for my 3DS the same way. Obviously I can't say how to get a copy of the game off the internet since I haven't messed with my Switch but there should be a way.
Really hope someone makes a mod or something that brings all the new features to people who own console edition ngl that would be cool or a mod that brings all the features from console edition to bedrock
Looking back at console edition once again is making me wonder, what if Minecraft Legacy Console Edition never got discontinued by Microsoft? Well for one thing, there could've been so many more tutorial worlds to teach us about the new mechanics like trading, bartering, and farming honey. There could've been more minigames with unique twists or new maps for the existing gamemodes. We could've gotten infinite or larger worlds to accomodate for the Nether Update and Caves and Cliffs! But no, the console edition got discontinued instead. A truly sad fate for an edition for the game that was loved by so many people. Ohhhhh, if only we got that alternate reality I mentioned earlier..... But then what if console edition got microtransactions due to Microsoft??? *dun dun dun*
I miss this... well this is like PS3 edition but then ps3 stopped working so I could never play it again. I miss the PVP minigames or the spleef it was so fun and I had super cool world too I wish there was an option to go back to this version..
@@grandre3464 I play Minecraft on PS4, and there's supposed to be an "Editions" button under the "Marketplace" button which allows you to switch from Bedrock Edition to the old Minecraft (Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition). I've tried reinstalling my game, and no matter what I can't get the button back
Another way of getting this version of Minecraft For Nintendo Switch at the time was to get a physical cartridge for it and install it from there, you wouldn't have Minecraft Bedrock for Switch, though. I still have a copy of Minecraft for Xbox One on disc and still play it to this day. It even updated from the 2014 version already installed on the disc to the new version from 2017 even after it was removed from the store. I am actually able to find people playing online minigames to this day as well. The funny thing is that it still says "Get Minecraft for free now!" on it even though I already have the Bedrock version it was referring to on the Xbox, and on my phone.
when I first played minecraft, it was on a xbox 360 I then moved to the PS4 version which had the same features at the time and I remember when I got my switch I went to a gamestop to get minecraft when they just gave me the bedrock version. I got confused for a bit, then asked "isn't there another version of minecraft?" to the guy and he was like "nope thats the only one" and it made me so sad because I loved to play these minigames to interact with others. On PS4 you can actually still access these old versions if you go to legacy mode. I went once years after it updated to bedrock to find tons of players still playing games like battle and it just warms my heart that the community is still strong and fighting
