I find it so interesting that the explorer almost never gets mentioned here.. I think it’s because the person that buys this wants to keep it and it’s someone that really appreciates what Rolex’s are about. Interesting to understand what your trends for that watch model usually are..
Yep! Exactly. As much as I love LWC they're secondary sellers, meaning by definition unless someone is trading in for something else, they're not going to see non hype models like that because the people who buy Explorers tend to buy and keep. I think it's quite interesting how the models that "dry up" were the ones that never went super duper crazy over retail on the grey anyway. AKA f it's not a hype model, there likely won't be someone buying it from an AD to sell to them straight away. Flipper market drying up before our eyes.
Definitely on point with this take.. and you know most of the time I do see them for sale, the listing says something to the effect of “I bought the 40 and should have gotten the 36 or vice versa”. Personally I bought my Explorer after a GMT .. which is to say it wasn’t a “purchase history” buy.. but rather a coming to the realisation that the Explorer is just as legendary as people said it was
that red seconds hand is what makes the watch! It gives it that sports car dashboard vibe. It's really a crying shame that they dropped that red color on the latest ones.
I was at my Rolex AD yesterday collecting my new Rolex GMT Batman after over a 3 year wait. The manager told me that my purchase was actually unheard of as I didn’t even have any previous spend history with them at all 😂. I mentioned the scarcity of Pepsi’s and she said they are coming through at the same ratio as Batmans.
You can see from the last five years of watches that to a large extent Rolex just changes the models up just for the effect of churning the market, not for improvements to the actual watch.
I think you nailed it with the BW on oyster… it’s much more wearable. I have the jubilee version from AD, and I also have sub date…. For someone who doesn’t have sub date I can see them wanting oyster on jubilee for everyday wear… if I didn’t have the sub date, def bw oyster to wear it daily.
In the us there is a system where you can check if the watch has been reported stolen. You need to wait 30 days before you can sell it. If you notice they take two forms of Id when they buy your watch. If it’s reported stolen they have your info and can notify the police.
Amazing that date just is sold for 13.000 £ and above submariner date. My wife has the 36 mm motif dial, but for me it does not come close to my sub date in terms of history and meaning.
Charlie, I got offered at my AD in Northern New Jersey a date just smooth bezel Wimbledon with the jubilee bracelet. I didn’t take the offer because it’s not the one I personally want…I m keen on the gmt lefty on jubilee
Charlie I don’t think the normal run of the mill person looking to get that dream watch for a retirement or other special occasion would even bother with an AD now due to the way they’ve operated over the last 6/7 years. They are left calling up the clients who’ve a buying history trying to offload different pieces. The issue they’ve got is their clients as I know many personally now know there isn’t any money in those pieces unless it’s the ones you’ve discussed so they say your alright I’ll give it a swerve. It’s a shame but feeds the grey as businesses like yourself can then negotiate taking those DJ they can’t shift off the AD’s for some of the more hard to get pieces. Sad that the tail is now wagging the dog!! No one wants to buy three Mont Blanc pens or a diamond for the Mrs when you just want a steel sub or a Pepsi 😂😂
Hi Charlie, I hope you and all the team at LWC are all keeping well. Another great positive video showcasing some beautiful Rolex timepieces wishing you a positive abundant week ahead best wishes
Wish you were my Rolex AD… I’m going to be in Vegas at mine next week and am already preparing to be insulted even tho I’ve spent 7 figures with her bosses.
Rolex sure did mess up the Oysterflex Daytona PN by eliminating the red second hand. I have the older 11 reference with the red hand, and it makes the watch look very special.
Is the sky dweller sort of invisible, market indifferent? I feel SD is something of an identity question, is it dress or sport. I love the blue dial on jubilee SD but concerned to buy paying premium over RRP
I'm still waiting for the call from my AD for the steal and gold Daytona with black face. For me the gmt looks the best with the jubilee awesome looking watch
