There is NO SUCH THING as "Real Camping" (Don't Listen to the Douchebags)

There is no such thing as "real camping." Real camping (motorcycle camping or otherwise) is what makes the most sense to you. If it feels like "real camping," it is. PERIOD. This is my biggest piece of beginner camping advice.
We’ve tackled this topic in the past from the riding perspective (check out the don’t be a dick video) but apparently it also bears mentioning on the motocamping side.
There is no right or wrong way to go camping. Anyone who tries to tell you you’re doing it “wrong” is a gatekeeping douche projecting their own insecurity.
It doesn’t matter if you camp on a snowy mountaintop with a tarp and a sharp stick or if you roll up to the campsite in a Nickelback tour bus. The point is to get out there and enjoy the outdoors in the way that works best and makes the most sense for you.
The real question is, who cares? It feels like camping to me and that’s all that matters.
THIS ISN’T EVERYONE, though. Like many things, it’s a very vocal minority. ADV rallies are absolutely chock full of people who are welcoming, helpful, and appreciative of all types of adventure. Most of the actual so-called hardcore adventurers (world travelers and those who live off their bikes) are not like this. It’s mostly keyboard warriors in the comments…many of whom also have FB marketplace listings for low-mileage late model 450s and 500s for 2 grand over retail because “they know what they’ve got.”
SO…PLEASE don’t let elitist dickbags discourage you from getting out and having adventures at your own speed. We all start somewhere and camping in a cabin or a yurt still beats the hell out of sitting on the couch. What matters is what you’re ready for and what is fun to you.
Maybe you’ll work your way up to those epic backcountry adventures someday, but don’t get it in your head that that is the only way to go camping and that it’s not worth bothering if you’re not doing that.
