There are no words yet to express my feelings about, and admiration for this briljant performance! It's just.... It's just... It's just..... Michael Manring I guess. There is no one alive that comes even close. Ab-so-lute-ly genius.
I thougt that after Soliloquy album there is no further way to push. I was totally wrong. Beautifull composition, briliant technique (as always) but here are so many techniques used......and some totaly new stuff with this ambience and looping things..... Great master Michael Manring....
when i bought the cd/download I assumed this was a multi track song. I figured it would / could never be played live with out a bunch of backing tracks. Thank you for showing me how it is done. Fantastic.
Oh, Michael! My wife and I remember seeing you at a winery in London, Ontario, Canada, on tour with Don Ross and Andy McKee. That would have been around 2005 to 2008? Videos like this one help us recapture some of the magic of that evening.
Hi Michael, I am beyond inspired by you and your bass playing. It's been that way for a long time. I am praying hard that I can get Joe Zon to custom build a Michael Manring Hyperbass for me. You and I spoke on the phone many years ago for a brief period of time. I had a bass shop in Kansas City then. I live in California now in Morro Bay. When things open back up, I hope to be able to finally shake your hand and introduce myself to you in person. Btw, I am friends with Andy McKee...I think you know eachother. Anyway, I love your music, what you do on the bass and the continued inspiration your gift gives all of us who witness what you do. Thank you...until we meet! Be Well.
Been on my radar as one of the greats since, oh, 2004 or so. And every time I come to have a gander I remember why you gained your reputation and inspired me as a player. If you are interested in doing a house performance just outside of Colorado Springs, I have a VERY interested party.
Still amazing to watch, listen and enjoy. I was very impressed long, long ago, in a land far, far away when watching you perform. The stage is still there, and remains a peaceful spot on this planet.
I know this is not really your thing, but I love to hear your take on a Primus tune :) You could lay down Les's riffs on loop and rip your own wild textures over the top.
Oh man, I love Primus! Did you ever hear the Attention Deficit albums I made with Tim Alexander and Alex Skolnick?ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-apJrsrZiFtI.html
Oh hell yeah! New content! EDIT: I was going to listen to Soliloquy and thought, I might as well see if there was any new stuff lately. I'm glad I did.
Discover your music is a real gift that life made to us! Thanks for all and keep going master! Have a nice day and wish you a beautiful christmas! From Chile(yes, here there is a lot of Windham Hill followers! hahaha). Life bless you!!!!
I had been away from your music for a while, wondered where you had been these past few years, and it's a great joy to hear that you are still filling the room with beauty. Thanks! And I hope to see you around Europe again soon!
🙌🏻Thank you, Michael. A lovely masterpiece. 🎻 Our recent MONO winds + snowstorm have created a beautiful landscape.❄️🌄 With this piece, you have created a beautiful soundscape + sky-scape. 🌅
I'm always blown away of what an incredible musician you are. I can feel the wind tearing apart every granite pebble. Truly one of the greatest bass players to have ever lived. And we want more "feed me Seymour"!
Beautiful and interesting as always. Been listening to your music for about 20 years now and it is always a treat. Hope to be able to see you perform live one day. Hope you come to Norway in the future!
Wow man……….pictured Tony Levin tossing you a Chapman Stick and you guys having a dual lol. Amazing as always. Always inspires me to grab one of my instruments.
Oh..when you just listen to this..and not watching..is kinda you can't imagine it's a bass alone... that a bass just couldn't make all this nice sounds and orchestration.. ...unless you knew Mr.Manring previoulsy.. Wonderful and for me it reminds of course of Jaco and King Krimson styles but taken to Manring's level.. =pure creativity!!
First experienced your fine characteristics on the William Ackerman Retrospective when it was released. Could not get enough then, can not get enough now. Your delivery is breathtaking, as always, and your compositional prowess is golden!!! I would really love to know if and what it is that you read book-wise, if this is not too personal. Thank you good sir!!!
Thank you! I tend to read a lot of non-fiction -- books about music and philosophy mostly. The Riverside Complete Shakespeare has a permanent spot on my bedside table as do the complete works of Jorge Luis Borges.
Wonderful. This is one of my favorite pieces from Small Moments. Ive been trying to teach myself Sardonic Grin. its proven to be exceedingly difficult, but i just need more practice.
@@michaelmanring1 Actually, it would be helpful to know if you had any tips or exercises for tapping? my hand independence is junk and its been a real challenge to remedy that.
@@seanforsythe78 I wish I had a magic secret, Sean, but for me it's always just been working on something like "Sardonic Grin" until I get it. For something like this I find it does help to conceptualize the two hand parts as a single unit first, and then separate them out mentally later. I hope that makes sense!
@@michaelmanring1 No I haven’t 😅 will check it out rn. I play bass myself, just a 4 string - but I gotta say your set up especially with two tunings per string, and incorporating that - is beyond amazing. Harmonics are spot on too. Excuse me Mr. Manring by far for me one of the best bass lines. My younger self didn’t really get your palm muting - but it definitely fits with ambiance - I get it now. Sorry I’m fanboying out, just delighted you replied 😎 Anyways sorry for the long write back, love your bass playing 👍 I’m checking it now.
