I agree on many points with you, and disagree and some other points. I think all the progress we made as humanity and civilization also brings new problems with it and one of them is surely psychological problems and not because the people are weak but because they are a product of the current conditioning and society. And Ren adresses one major problem that goes along with this, the growing up in the social media driven fake world. And remember that this song is a couple of years old, so the climax of the social media impact with instagram influencers, deep fakes, filters etc was still to come, when he wrote the song. Rens ambition in many songs ist not to "take care of the weak people or just to drag them along" but to strengthen the "weak people". I also dont think that there ist this one right way to raise children, i believe it's really important to learn the needs of your child. One child maybe needs a push or encouragement to get out and to testing/exploring their limits, the other child maybe needs some barriers/boundries, but sadly many parents don't take the time or simply don't have the time to get really to know their kids or simply following a dogmatic raising philosophy and wondering how it doesn't work with every child the same. Every child, every human is different.

I think that this is one of Ren's most important songs. Listening to what you were saying about strong men. Brought something to mind. I get inspirational and informative posts sent by a gentleman. I hope I can get it right. Bad times = strong men = Good times = weak men = Bad times Interesting, I guess the question is how to break the cycle? I thought you might like it.

💯 agree... It just doesn't go away now... Sadly. But what's more pernicious and more prevalent these days is the veiled compassion for kids "problems". It's far more sinister and evil. They prey on the weak to turn them into marching soldiers for political and ideological agendas and that's far more detrimental in my opinion.

@@thefablesphere Unfortunately, some people believe that, and it resulted in daily bomb threats and death threats in my city, and then my state. They're probably still doing it, but the police and local media announced after that that they'd no longer report the threats to the public unless there was an actual imminent or active threat. (This was elementary schools and children being targeted, mind you.) Our local political leaders are egging on the threats. It's all based on things twisted and lied about and taken out of context for the sake of fearmongering. And it's being done by the right. 😞

While bullies can indeed make some people stronger, they also destroy others. I hear you about overprotecting people, especially the young. That can certainly lead to struggles in the future for them. And of course there will always be people that do terrible things, but when it becomes acceptable in society to ridicule the weaker, you are crossing into dangerous territory as well. I agree with you that the answer is not making everyone docile, people will always need leaders, but there is nothing wrong with teaching people to be decent human beings. I grew up playing sports, and most of the coaches I had though that constant yelling, cussing out, and embarrassing your players was the right way to do that, and I hated playing for them. Two of the best coaches I had, with the most successful teams didn't handle themselves that way at all. Instead of learning to play from fear or anger, they taught be how to control my emotions and channel that energy into my play. If you are familiar with American Football, they were like Tony Dungy. Trust me, I get what you are saying about the ultra liberals - they have gone mostly off the reservation. But that doesn't mean the opposite is the answer either. With that being said - I always enjoy your insights and reactions - including this one :-)

I feel the same as a previous commenter about agreeing on some points but not on some other things you said. I've been around a long time, also learned a LOT over my past 74 years. I won't get up on my "soap box" because I don't dare take the chance I would fall off it, even if it's only 3" high. I'm getting too old for all the B.S. on this planet, knowledge comes with growth and seeing and hearing and then make up your own mind. It all depends on a persons morals, or lack thereof. We survive when we finally realize "who" the people are in our lives that are bringing us down, or those are building us up and helping. Learning the difference and we will know in which direction we will follow. Someone, anyone, will always try to destroy us, find out who we are and what kind are we, a destroyer or a builder.

While I think a lot of things can and should be changed - like with the rules on how companies advertise and how social media works - i do agree these things are NOT actually caused by social media and these issues have always existed. Even going back to elizebethan times etc- you think people who didnt fit in with the latest trends at court or who had blemishes or were different from the rest of the village etc didnt get bullied or taken advantage of? I know they did. But social media and modern beauty/ad culture etc does turbo boost the problems and makes them so much easier to cause.

@lunadyana3330
@lunadyana3330 Год назад
There's nothing independent here in terms of analysis. I have no problem dumping on the left or the right, but for goodness sake, recognize right wing ideology when it's staring you in the face. This weakness discourse is straight out of Nietzche and over 100 years old. These are arguments for traditional hierarchies you migh6tve heard from Barry Goldwater or Wiliam Buckley Jr, and anything but independent thinking. I wrote more in a longer comment and I appreciate how difficult it is sometimes to connect historical trends in thought, let alone to name and identify a taxonomy in which to place ideas once you first encounter them, but I'm here for it. I don't need you to agree with me. All I ask is that you engage critically with all ideas, all information, and develop media literacy around how to evaluate sources and identify the ideological framing of any piece information. Take in as many disparate sources as possible, but learn to identify by the arguments and examples used, as well as the framing of the information, what ideological suit that piece of info is wearing in order to get at the truth. There's nothing wrong with being ideological per se, only in not recognizing how ideology interacts with facts to produce widely different versions of truth

Feels to me like we’ve definitely come a long way from 120 yrs ago, also feels as if we’re going backwards at least in the UK. It’s depressing and young people are feeling this - the social contract is broken because they can’t afford their own home. So I agree with you, it’s at an alarming rate. Utopia may not be possible but just because it’s never happened doesn’t mean we can’t imagine or strive for it. Starting with a change in attitudes to the poor and sick. See REN’s ‘1 million RU-vid subscribers statement/thanks’ for his comments on this.

Strength doesn't only relate to violence or physicality. There is also strength of conviction, strength of character, strength to just argue & debate with other people face-to-face, strength to put in day-to-day work day after day, strength to adapt. "Violent" is the opposite of "docile". "Strong" and "docile" have no direct correlation. You didn't mention that human adults are also stupid and foolish. It's a human trait. Children just don't have enough experiences. They're always surprisingly clever when they have more complete knowledge. "Veiled compassion" implies intentional deception. "Misplaced compassion" might be more accurate to your point. On the other end is the intentional brain washing to be sociopathic. Yep, there will always be good people and evil people (at least til juman brains evolve). The argument has always been who's who.

Interesting reaction and I share your love of Ren and enjoyed your insightful reaction to Hi Ren, but a little pushback seems necessary. Claiming Thomas Sowell, a fellow at the friggin' Hoover institute, is censored, is a bit disingenuous. He has a huge platform and is funded by powerful people because he shares and reflects their views. When you support the ideology of the ruling class, you will always have a platform. When you stand up and challenge the ruling class, like Cornell West did to Harvard President, Larry Somers, you lose your tenured position. The idea that progressive economics dominate, when they're marginalized world wide, and that neoliberal economics, dominate for the 40 years since Thatcher/Reagan, is somehow not the elite world view, how have the elites managed to convince us of that? Easy, its the oldest trick in the book, invent cultural issues to divide people and convince them that their real enemies are people with no power who are pushing some godless agenda and not the elites who have their boots on their necks. Frame it using black and white thinking, creating categories of good vs evil people, throw in some Nietzche (the "weak" discourse), and you've got a fairly classic neo-fascist gig going on. There's nothing wrong with defending the status quo, as you and Sowell seem called to do, but own your conservative ideology and its hegemony in this world. Don't sandwich it in between Ren riffs. There's nothing new or revelatory here. It's the same ideology as Peter Thiel and Elon Musk. The ideology of those who have all the power and don't want to share it. The neo-feudalists who have seized culture by convincing others they are under seige from the simultaneously super weak yet somehow ultra- poweful BLM protestors, teachers unions and stupid avocado-toast eating young people. Own the fact that you find change to be anathema and cherish hierarchy. But fear mongering and pretending you aren't supporting the elites while using Ren's music to support hierarchy and promote fascism, that's something he doesn't support and youre distorting his message by cloaking it in a @RenMakesMusic reaction Because I believe in citing my sources, I'm linking to Umberto Eco, who grew up in fascist Italy, and his list of the 14 characteristivs of fascism. I invite anyone to compare that list, esp # 3 and #8, but clearly #10, with the ideology you've been listening to here. Any fair-minded person will identify fascism, which by its very nature is a syncretic ideology, inflected with a good bit of Nietszche, in this reaction www.faena.com/aleph/umberto-eco-a-practical-list-for-identifying-fascists

I hated your take on this to the point whare I wont watch another of your reactions. Ren is exploring the deplorable false hoods that our current society pushes in our face, and then links this to the illness and issues that people are suffering as a result. Consumerism profits from pushing us all down. You just go on a rant about how we must be strong, completely misunderstanding the clever psychology that's being used to subdue us all. That's the equivalent of telling someone with mental health conditions to 'pull yourself together'. You demonstrated zero understanding.
@VideosbyLisaLisa
@VideosbyLisaLisa Год назад
Welp, no one can deny that Ren doesn't provoke conversation. 😏 I've dis/agreed with some of your and your audience points and want to make sure it's clear that the hypocrisy of 'stand with, but not in my yard' is prevalent on multiple (aka both) sides in the US. It's not just the wealthy liberals that can be hypocrites, but the conservatives too. Recently, those who preach about godliness have declared the need to ban free or reduced price school meals to students from low-income families as a 2024 political priority, citing the need to "prevent the widespread fraud present in the program." Because... poor kids must be criminals? Reminds me of all the rising rates of school book bans - not of books with adult content, but books that might confuse a child from say a white nationalist home about historical and current facts (esp. re racism). Those families aren't raising "strong" children either. Seems to me that children from a variety of homes are actively enforcing ignorance. As an impressionable teenager "Lord of the Flies" taught me to beware the dark side of human nature, and I agree it will always be a part of each individual. Bullying has always and will always be around. The pressure to fit into the societal norms Ren is describing in Dominos has been around forever, but exacerbated with mass advertising and marketing, not social media. Tonight, one of your commenters introduced me to Akala's Fire in the Booth, and his message - EVERYONE needs to READ ‐ fits well with Ren here. Ren says "insecurity breeds judgment / Judgment breeds hate, not unity." The wealthiest political donors in the U.S. are very rarely in the news about their rigging of the system because they often control the media. Like Charles and David Koch, conservative billionaires are supporting/creating the laws that keep them rich and the less wealthy more poor and more ignorant to boot. Ironically, the wealthiest liberal political donors are often called out (Gates, Buffet, Bloomberg) but are actually atypical US billionaires politically. *Gets off soap box* I'm just saying everyone should check out Ren's "Money Game" parts 1&2. Everyone is engaging in the game, and the most prominent from all political parties are problematic. It's not just liberals; it's not just conservatives. It's certainly not "wokeness" that's the problem.

Anorexia isn't 'decadence'. It's not an 'agenda' or an 'ideology'. It's an illness. It's not bc of social media. It's because of society's expectations on us. By that, I mean everyone. Families, neighbors, classmates, peer pressure, teachers, even doctors. I was a teenager when I developed anorexia in the 70s. I was always told I was pretty. By all of the above mentioned people. Some told me I belonged in Hollywood. It creeped me out. Because I was smart. I was more than any physical characteristics (which weren't my achievement, but simply a result of my genes). I was told by everyone that I should be a model. I finally thought maybe I should try it. I never thought I was particularly pretty, myself, but why not? Parents enrolled me in a modeling school (Casablancas, I think). The school assessed me, measured me, etc, and I was told I wasn't 'exotic ' or tall enough for fashion work, but maybe I could do pageants. On and on. I bought teen beauty advice magazines, too. No social media then, thank goodness. I didn't realize then that they airbrushed the cover models. I didn't understand why I couldn't get my measurements that tiny or my skin that flawless, no matter how much work I put in. I later realized it wasn't possible, because it wasn't real. I was relieved to see actresses, models, etc post REAL photos of themselves later on social media. I found an article about anorexia in one of the teen magazines, and saw myself in it, to a tee. It got my attention. My family and dr blew it off at first, but I knew myself. And I saved myself. As I got older, I began to downplay my 'attractiveness', and not care if anyone noticed me. After a lifetime of feeling uncomfortable in my own body bc of what others thought of it, I quit trying to please them. I am growing old with grace, I hope. And wisdom. It was never about my being 'weak'. I'm still here, despite it! Despite a lot of other things that came afterwards. Please don't call it an 'ideology' or 'virtue signaling '. It's real, and fatal without the right kind of intervention from professionals who understand it.
@thefablesphere
@thefablesphere 11 месяцев назад
I'm not sure who you're advocating for here? In one way you say it isn't decant, or an ideology and then continue to confirm that it is and you were engulfed in it, and then prove that strength got you out of it (of which, strength and resilience isn't a virtue many of the youth have anymore because they're being taught to give into everything, that is in fact decadent and that involves their emotions, appearance and sexuality). And I'm well aware it's fatal (I see how you tried to flip that on me though). Compassion won't save them though... Hard truths and good guidance will.... from a very early age preferably.

However, you are watching Ren, supposedly not the first video, and one thing he is saying in a lot of his art is something that resonates with me. In contrast to what you stated, people are not either evil or good, they are human beings with both a good and evil side, good and evil thoughts and the capacity to become a demon or an angel. Showing someone kindness and empathy instead of strength and brutality might just keep them on the right path. And perhaps one more thing, before I take off - look a bit closer at history?
