Thousands of tons of steel still sit in the Patapsco River, where the key bridge once stood. The methodical work to remove the wreckage, piece by piece, continues. All that steel has to go somewhere.
On Monday morning, members of the Unified Command, the group of state and federal agencies working together on the response, escorted members of the media to the processing site in Sparrows Point where the debris is taken for recycling.

I've wondered about whether getting some of the gigantic European cranes would help. You'd think with what was at stake that the powers that be wouldn't be doing anything but trying to figure out the fastest way to do this, but maybe not?

@@bend8353 Thanks for the response. My apologies, but I didn't quite understand what you meant. Are you saying that the giant cranes in Europe can't be moved across the ocean? That seems plausible, but I wasn't sure you meant that.
@rupe53
@rupe53 Месяц назад
@@davefoc I think the point here is first those cranes would need to be available. Secondly, it would take weeks to get them here, if they are on a sea going ship, which I doubt. A sea going ship can't get close to the debris because they have a larger draft than a barge. Third, there's only so much working room so wouldn't speed things up that much. Now that we are organized, this will move more quickly.

Why did the ship come closer to the bridge and lose power to turn towards the beam post. Does it have to go sideways once the ship loses power and 🤔🤫🫣👈👉
@WJV9
@WJV9 Месяц назад
I think the gyroscopic action of the huge propellor starting/stopping and reversing would have a big effect on the the direction of the ship, that along with the power failure likely eliminating the control of the rudder. The rudder sits behind the propellor so it the propellor stops the rudder has very little control of the ship's direction.

"There is a lot of pressure on us..." Pressure leads to hurrying, hurrying leads to accidents, accidents lead to injuries and death. The work needed to be done is pressure enough without the Big Bosses adding more by trying to keep to a time schedule by rushing the jobs. It can either be done fast or done right, but you cannot do both.
@lmbear
@lmbear Месяц назад
As you can see from the videos, they are not in a huge hurry doing anything there. They are, however, getting it done. I guarantee they are not going to have anyone there, for too long, that can't handle the job. If it's too much "pressure" on them, they need to be removed from the site. This job is not for a rookie, that's going to be worried about the "pressure". The proper men will be put on the job, and they will get it done. No muss, no fuss..

It would be good if someone would "park" these journalists in a classroom for a couple of hours and educate them on the basics of what they are seeing and talking about so they don't spout such "bogus" information. One guy sees a bunch of sparks flying and reports "they are welding on those trusses" that are being cut apart at the salvage yard. Obviously, they were "cutting" the steel members with torches. This guy says they are burning the steel with "propane" torches. Sorry, those are acetylene torches.
