@@twostop6895 Southern AZ doesn’t have much ground water. It’s too hot here during the rainy season for that to be viable. Storing it in tanks is the best way, the local governments encourage it. More homeowners should be collecting the water that falls on their property. I’m bummed that I don’t have a system in place with all this rain we have been getting.
As long as they can keep sending California most of the Colorado river water (to which they contribute nothing), its ok for everyone else to do without. Notice the "tier 2 shortage" requires Arizona and Nevada to give up more water, but California's "senior water rights" means they can keep draining the river.

People dont get that they live in a desert fed from water that millions upon millions use from the upper basin to the lower basin. The dams are a manmade product that relies on mother nature to supply this. If the demand out paces the supply there is no amount of conservation to stop the water flow. Arizona and California uses the most water for food production and alot of it are exported. The government needs to step in and have these so called "FARMERS to reduce production and exportation during this drought....but as usual with LARGE CORP and people the all mighty dollar is more important than the country they make a living in. Arizona uses its own reservoirs. We have Canyon, Saguaro and the Salt River. We don't use water from Powel for Arizona city water. We have many reservoirs locally. Stop California from using the majority of the big reservoirs and make them use ocean water and convert it to usable water & they won't drain powel, mead and the Coronado River.
Whether escaping taxes and bad weather in the northeast, taxes and bad politics in California, or misery in south and central America, perhaps it is time to have a discussion (gasp) about limiting in-migration to Arizona and the other western states facing chronic water scarcity. Natural ecosystems have maximum carrying capacities and humans aren't exempt. Sorry.

Realistically the only real solution that I see here is desalination plants to refill these reservoirs if it’s not going to rain and more people are moving into this area away from California taking up this valuable resource I just don’t see how you can honestly supply water to the residence the way things are going

Every time man thinks he has a plan to best nature he only ends up screwing it up worse. Let's take this current problem. They built these dams for power which created two big problems. First it screwed the local aquatic ecosystems and second it created the ability to overpopulate the desert. Now let's look at desalination. Does it not continue where the dams left off? We gotta mine and destroy the local environments to build treatment facilities and pipelines just to support a population in an uninhabitable area? Doesn't seem like a well thought out plan.
