Iris is a true American treasure! Her music is found deep in the heart of life around the American experience!!! Her lyrics are filled with the stories that will become traditional and iconic because of the raw truths they convey! Have been a loyal fan from the beginning, and will be one till I die! Love her forever!!!!
I’m an old man but when I heard her voice made me feel like a teenager that just heard an Angel singing. How could she not melt your heart & make you wish you had encountered her as a younger man. Could spent my life at least listening to that beautiful voice
Just so awesome. For me, Iris dement is not an acquired taste; it was love at first listen, over 22 years ago! Thanks, Iris and thanks Mr. Scotland for posting this!!!!
*My God...that last note will echo on in my soul forever. What an inspiration...so lovely! Thank you Iris for giving voice to such divinity...and thank you fellas for carrying a mighty tune. This performance shines like the crown of an angel!* ~~~~~~~
I am very content to have found Iris Dement. Her honest attitude and perfectly unfeigned way to make the music have convinced me.And see the musiciens around her: you can see how they enjoy playing with her. The harmony is perfect. These opportunities to make music together are beneficent to the soul of every one. I too enjoy every moment. Jyrki from Finland
A classic beautiful voice. Her facial features remind me of Susie Bogus, one of my favorite American country singers. Great talent & a great band. Her style & voice are reminiscent of one of our icons, the great Emmy Lou Harris. Thanks for posting this.
We don't got a prophet here to tell us what the future's gonna hold. We've only got each other and the love we carry in our souls. This old world's full of trouble; family love was never quite clear. There's a whole lot of heaven that's shining in this river of tears (2) If you pull back the curtain those diamond appear. You can have your streets of gold if you want 'em and your mansion so dear. There's a whole lot of heaven that's shining in this river of tears.
Iris is magnificent - I am a late comer to her music. Personally think Sing The Delta is one of the strongest albums I have heard for ratio of outstanding tracks since Blood On The Tracks. And like Dylan at his best, Iris emotes every word and lives every moment of a song
Transatlantic Sessions 3 - bbc Scotland/Pelicula films/ rte I think. From about 2007 - Totally fantastic programs, as are the Season 1/2/4 & 5 sets too! My favourite music on the TV bar none!! Filmed in Scotland, the exact whereabouts I forget!
tdbsnr: it's becomes almost hypnotic after while, and it contributes to the peaceful movement of the music. Among the C&W fans it is one of the things they like best. I guess each to his own.
Few commenters understand the true joy of making music...either as a soloist or in ensemble form. You do...and your comment is eloquent. You must be a joyous individual. May you continue to be so.Your post is such a joy to me I am going to look at your playlist to find a few more jewels...the easy way. Tom in Utica NY
Verse 3: This life that we're living is like a ship that don't want to be steered. I'm awake this morning thinking I should ...... my own fears. It's a pain, it's a strain, it's a struggle that I first afeared. There's a whole lot of heaven shining in this river of tears (2). If we pull back the curtain those diamonds appear. You can have your streets of gold if you really want 'em, your mansion so dear. There's a whole lot of heaven shining in this river of tears.
Forgot to say below that i prefer this version to the one on her Sing the Delta cd - which, by the way I love, but the whole production here is divine - could not be bettered!
Iris was in a movie called "Songcatcher". You should check it out if possible. She sings in the movie & there's a lot of other beautiful music by other people.
Where can this disc be found? This is so beautiful. I've loved Iris since I first heard her. Who wouldn't?!!! I so agree with you, Iris. You're the real deal, honey! Don't ever change.
she's very good. a very distinctive voice. sounds like a mixture of Betty Boop and Pam Tillis. i know that's silly...but it's the only description i can think of at the moment. lol i meant to no disrespect. loved it.
@rustystill10 Tried to find the lyrics with Google and could not. Here's my best try: Verse 1: There's a lot of people talkin' bout gettin' into glory land way. They're walkin' straight and narrow cuz they're tryin' to get to heaven someday. But I've been saved by the love of the people who are living right here. There's a whole lot of heaven that's shining in this river of tears.
