My uncle used to take me fishing and squirrel hunting off Middletown road. He worked for the railroad and so did his buddy Melvin Parrish who owned a lot of property around there and a general store. Uncle Lou knew the names of the towns that were flooded. All the history. Prettyboy was named after a horse. I grew up in that place. Definitely God's country 🙏..

I just wanted to send you this message telling you I truly enjoyed todays river history trivia tour. Some of the visible rocks that are huge and appear to be squared off has me wondering more about how the area looked before purposely flooded.. I wonder since there is evidences of former human life in the Gunpowder river valley, would GOOGLE have any old maps and/or historical records concerning that building foundation and that old cart path??? I dont know about most the ppl that came along with you today , but Im hooked on all the historicle topography and try to imagine what living there would have been like . Thank you, Dan for sharing you pieces of the outdoors. Very intresting and informative...a bit different than any other content creator that I keep up with...May you continue to be blessed with the time, energy and good health that enables you to keep sharing your days like today ❤❤❤

I'll tell the story of how it got it's name (as legend has it) and some other historical stuff while I'm out if that's what you're interested in. There was quite a lot in the valley before it was flooded. There's a one room schoolhouse, among other buildings deep beneath Liberty reservoir just south of me. Liberty reservoir is the middle size of the 3 reservoirs for Baltimore city.

I did a little research and learned more history about your tour area. That deffinately was a cart path. Oxcart. Likely that was how copper was delivered to be rolled at that water-powered mill foundation . OR there was Jerusalem Grist Mill also in that area AND Gunpowder Falls paper mill. Of course I could be confused on the exact placement of all these former businesses, but one item more clear to me is what was once Gunpowder Valley was also named Long Green Valley back when the County Seat was established on the East Bank of Gunpowder River late 1600s and Charles Calvert was 3rd Lord of Baltimore and owned 7031 acres of what was known as Gunpowder Manor during that time. The Manor acreage was opened to settlers in 1721, but the 6th Lord of Baltimore ordered the Manor sold in 1766 then in 1782 the remaining land was listed as confiscated by the British. Well we had the Civil War of 1776 that happened in there and to my recall, we ran the Brits out . Haven't yet looked into the flooding, but it's sure to be interesting as well...

@@debramoon6725 Not sure about Long Green Valley, but I always assumed that road was in Hoffmann's property. The Hoffmanville paper mill was, and the town of Hoffmanville still is about a half mile away. The Hoffmanville family burial ground is where the slave graves I visited are located.

@@dansoutdoorsandmore3183 Yes. Back in the 1700s the area was pretty much industrialized and quite self sufficient I imagine with all those mills running... My area has quite a bIt of historical information available if you have interests similar to mine about this type thing. Have you ever heard about THE FORKS OF CYPRESS ? Its an antebellum plantation estate located right here in my hometown neighborhood. The movie "ROOTS" according to the books author Alex Hayley was based around the goings on around this location back in those days. ... and the area is also rich in Native Amercan relics. one of many ceremonial Indian mounds is a downtown tourist attraction . We also celebrate with THE W.C. HANDY and HELEN KELLER FESTIALS every year. where the cobblestone streets are barricaded from automobile traffic and big public parties rev up. Yes, history fascinates me...

@@dansoutdoorsandmore3183 sorry, correction, Liberty is the largest at 3100 acres. Prettyboy and Loch Raven are smaller.

Hi Dan, not a big deal but that car is actually in 66 fow. I have it waypointed on my Humminbird and I was there working with the dive team the day Baltimore County was diving on it. The car was so deteriorated one of the divers tried to pull on a fender and it just fell apart in his hands. The windshield was smashed in and they said it was something like an old Model A. It's been down there a long, long time. Thanks for the video. Keep 'em coming. If I ever see you out there I'll stop by and say, "Hi!".

Thanks for the background and tour. It's so beautiful and I'm surprised there aren't more people out on the water at this time of year. If I lived in the area I'd definitely be out there paddling and waving to you 🤣

It was actually pretty "crowded" by Prettyboy standards. (weekday afternoon and I was way far from the boat launch.)

Hi Dan, I actually have pictures of no water up in Hoffmanville creek from the drawdown back in 2006 when it was down 28'. Where that rock wall ends at the water line is a bridge about 150' down creek out in the middle. Several tournaments have been won in that area over the years.

Such a cool video, and that's neat about the sunken car! However, everytime you said "around the bend", Creedence Clearwater, started playing in my head! But, I guess it could've been worse! LOL 😂 Have a great day! 😃

The car is in 66'. I have it GPS'd on my Humminbird electronics, along with, nice pics of side imaging and down imaging. Would LOVE to know the history of how the car got there! I'd say it's been there for over 50-60 years, probably longer.

If you go north under the bridge, past Graves Run, and keep going past the dog leg, it'll be on the north shore right before the reservoir starts to narrow out up by Clipper Mil.
