You are amazing, I recently got some foam board (inspired by you) and I am making a small city for the age of sigmar with the undead army for me. You inspire me, keep up the good work but don’t worry about what will please us! Just have fun and do what makes you happy

I commend you for identifying that you're stuck in a rut. A lot of people never realize this. You got to do you and the people who are meant to be around, will stick around. I personally like the slower videos. I am not a crafty person so I need things dumb down and explained to me at a slower pace. 😁In the end, you have to be true to yourself as an artist, or you lose who you are. And that's not a very good compromise.

Dude I'm just here to hear you talk. I have a one year old daughter and rarely find the time to sit down and create stuff anymore but just listening to someone go through the thought processes, tackling challenges and trying new things are enough to keep me sane. Oh and we often watch your vids before her mid-day naptime so that 'dad' gets his hobby fix and your soothing accent knocks us both out. If this new vlog format means more talk, we're all for it :D

The people that keep coming back to your channel are here for your inspired artistic style. If that's being compromised by the burdensome RU-vid algorithm, I'm sure each and every one of us would prefer you to make the compromises that need to be made so that you can continue to deliver to the hobbying world what makes you happy.

I'm a full-time artist who has nothing to do with RU-vid or video making (really) and definitely feel you on the blurred lines between hobby/passion/job/self-worth. When I'm being crushed by doubts, I always look to creators who excite and inspire me and recognise that the very reason they're exciting and inspiring is because they're excited and inspired by the stuff they're working on! I'd much rather watch videos of someone learning and growing by following their own lead rather than someone riding the algorithm wave or feeling beholden to deliver new tips, finished projects or narrative arcs every time. Your obvious passion, natural and honest delivery (and lovely camera framing) are the main reasons I'm subscribed, and what actually lights a fire under me to keep making things and exploring. So it's really cool to see you recognise that in yourself, and admirable to take a step to foster that magic rather than fall into the belly of the beast. Making art is a powerful and uniquely human endeavour, and our right to undertake it to the fullest extent of its enjoyment should be protected at all costs, no matter how many followers you might have. Stoked to see what you do next!

Always great to get a notification of your videos. You do you and make what you enjoy and have a passion for, must admit I feel the same on my channel, I feel I have lost a spark for making what excites me and instead making videos I feel will get views. I love your passion for the extraordinary and will watch what ever you make, even if it was a robot made from cereal boxs lol. Have fun =)

Honestly my favorite thing about what you do here is the "just watching you hobby moments". There are SO many channels that focus heavily on content curated for the algorithm/viewership which I get BUT as someone who just got into the hobby this past year there is nothing I crave more than just "sharing" someone else's hobby experience while I engage in my own. Especially with the pandemic and not having friends who are also into the hobby it's nice to just listen/watch along while you hobby and I hobby at home haha. Appreciate you Trent, take care.

I really liked the pacing of this video. It felt like hanging out with a friend as we chat and work on stuff, very comfy. I'm glad you're making sure not to overwork yourself for the sake of views/viewer requests. We're here because we love the hobby, and the hobby, and by extension the videos you make on the subject, is at its best when you're honest with our motivations and interests.

Don't worry about creating the things that get clicks, sure the crazy builds and fast editing is pretty cool and all. But mostly I keep coming back to your videos whenever I want to be inspired. Your excitement of the hobby and crafting is infectious. Whether it's a small toad you've sculpted, a post apocalyptic environment or even a single miniature you've been painting, do the stuff you enjoy doing and we'll keep watching and supporting you! :D

I just adore watching you and listening to you speak to the camera. Not only an extremely talented and creative artist, but a genuine look inside your hobby - I hope you find a balance that keeps you back from the brink of a breakdown. The demand for new content from creators is an almost impossible goal, and all artists can really suffer from the stress. Thank you for sharing - one leg at a time

Your little chat made perfect sense. Slowing down with the videos to focus more on the projects that YOU are passionate about is definitely the most important part. I feel so inspired by seeing your creative process, whether it's in the form of a big scale project spanning several videos, or a short tips/tricks deal. But, most of all I am inspired by watching you share with us what really makes you ihappy and hyped up, and what YOU want to make. It is important to cherish your hobby, and I for one would love to see more of your regular hobbying! Take care of yourself Trent

Your comments and feelings about the hobby resonate with me. I do commission painting in my spare time. I tend to pick up projects I like, or that have some meaning. However, my own tend to get relegated and put aside "for the moment I have time", which feels like never. Glad you took a moment to be introspective, realize what isn't working, and address it

I dont know if i speak for everyone, but some of the stuff i most enjoy about your channel particularly is seeing your thought process and your passion, and the way u interact with the hobby, and all the strange stuff that results from that. I dont know if that makes any sense but what im getting at is that as long as ur doing the stuff u find interesting, whether it be a huge project or a tiny one or even just seeing random stuff like your organization system or the way u use the hobby to socialize, it will always be entertaining and inspire me. I think the title of this video is fitting because ive always felt like your channel was just a lucky way for me to see how you interact with the hobby, rather than you making stuff for our gratification. you do you, and ill always be grateful whenever i get to go along for the ride. Have a good week!

Trent, you are a bastion of zen and progress in the hobby RU-vid world. Any time I feel a lack of motivation or fear about starting a project, I watch your videos and think "I should just start, look what he can achieve just through sheer will and chaotic energy". Keep doing what you do, andi very much like this style of video!

I, for one, am thrilled to hear that we'll be getting more videos like this. Its nice to feel like we're actually getting to know you a bit and not just watching someone make a cool thing. I don't watch most hobby channels for exactly that reason, I just don't care that much about the person or their work. Keep up the good work man, but do it for you, we're just happy to be along for the ride. I look forward to the next vlog. Peace

Dude, I've seen a lot of comments about the fact we all love watching any of the hobby stuff you do. It's true we all love the hobby, but really importantly, we love you - you are the common thread we'll always come back for. I can guarantee that many of your subscribers would gladly watch you paint an army or build amazing terrain. But we'd also watch you fly a kite or learn how to brew a drink. It's your way of communicating through passion, kindness and unashamedly being yourself that's magnetic. We got your back dude
@jacenchrisbaker

I always feel for content creators who turn something they love to do away from 'work' into their 'actual work'. I respect the hustle, drive, and all that jazz, but you definitely made a strong point: for many, creating for the sake of creating isn't a hobby anymore, it's just a part of their RU-vid work. I respect you immensely for always pursuing the art side of all this. It doesn't feel like you push out a video for the sake of making the GoogleTube happy. And I always appreciate this kind of slice-of-life content, because it feels more honest.

Loved this video. It’s was so engaging and honest. As a fairly new RU-vid content creator it’s reassuring to see that it’s not only me that has those sorts of emotions, and completely agree that your hobby becomes dictated by what you think might get views, or make a good thumbnail. It’s such a fine balance between doing what you want to do and what you think other people want you to do. I’m looking forward to Vlog 002. Keep up the great work, man.

Man, I just enjoy watching your approach to everything you do. It's very unique and different to any other channels. I'd happily watch you do just about anything because of how you go about it. to add to the words of support: 1. your pile of shame is nothing compared to Midwinter Minis :p. You can fit it all on 1 shelf, & your projects are fairly involved. That isn't a backlog to stress over 2. On arcane ugly: I've been trying to do my own TT-RPG project since late last year... and your amount of progress shames me. One thing a day is an amazing amount of progress. Especially since you're doing the whole thing, rules, art, and other text. My unartistic mechanics focused self is just trying to get the rules on paper in good order. Seriously, your progress on the game is amazing & inspiring.

Hey Trent! Your videos I like the best are the ones you do because you want to show us the awesome things you did out of sheer randomness or because you found a cool toy inside a box and it looks nice in your army. I feel like what makes this channel such a good one to me, is that it's your content that's published and not the content we want to see. Dunno if that makes sense, but please do things because you enjoy them, that's what makes them so cool! Best of luck :)

Something I’ve always loved about your channel is how “real” it feels, you’re making dope shit cause you like it. Arcane Ugly didn’t become a thing because you thought it would be profitable, but because you thought it was neat. There is a tension, however, between doing what you want and being able to buy food, and if your “compromise” keeps bringing the audience closer to the reality and to your process like this vlog did, there’s some cool fucking shit coming from your channel in the near future. Very excited, can’t wait for the next one!

A few ideas that may help with your crafts,... to get better 50/50 mix when mixing your silicon, use a small scale to measure the weight. and your wire cutter, maybe try a slightly thicker gauge wire that you can bend, make the wire longer than what you currently use and then you can shape it in odd ways to make more fluid formed cuts almost like a router would with wood. maybe look up wire that is used with vape products, they come in all sorts of gauge sizes and are obviously meant to use with ohm resistance to create heat. Other than those ideas to possibly improve I think your craft ideas are frikken amazing, keep up the great works.

I wish I'd found this earlier. It's genuinely inspiring to watch/listen to. With so many videos showing how to get the *perfect* result, it's easy to get demoralized when my own stuff either doesn't end up exactly how I want it or, worse, the time spent doesn't result in any major progress. So seeing your at-times meandering creative process was really nice. It helped remind me that, yeah, this is normal; and that's okay.

Dude I've been with you since the early days, so have a lot of your viewers. Don't feel bad for slowing down the content, take your time man and stay well!

Feel free to take your time and focus on what you're passionate about or what you need to do. Your hobby should be about you, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that your best content comes from projects you're genuinely excited to do. Keep up the good work!

I cant speak for everyone, but i dont stick around for the fantastic mold making or the nurgly bits, theyre all just gravy. I stay for you, because you are a fantastic hobbyist and this is the most "You" ive ever seen in a video. Keep it bud. Have fun hobbying.

To be honest, I like your unfinished pile part because maybe it looks like something else and maybe a whole different project in the future when you revisit them with new knowledge.

I enjoyed the more casual style and narration to this vid. That monologue shot looked real nice, and then I realised, we never get monologues from you. One of the things I've always liked about your channel is that you just do your own thing, and bring us along for the ride. I've never felt you pander to the algorithms, but I think it's inevitable that it starts having an impact. It's good that you've recognised this issue early though. I don't think anyone will mind a change in pace or content. I think if you're happy in your hobby, it'll shine through into your content. We ain't going nowhere!

I agree with everyone. I kinda like this slow and honest video. We can all feel how much it means to you, to step back and take a break from it all. You do you and we will all still be here. Much love man ❤

Everything you put out is inspiring man. I’ve got so many things I want to do and try with sculpting and miniature painting and kind of don’t do because they’re all a bit daunting, but seeing your process and creations always makes me want to have a go at something aye.

Big fan of the wider shots and more relaxed/long form theme this video took. Make stuff for you! Because I could watch you do anything even remotely related to the hobby and still enjoy it. Cheers!

The joy of watching your videos is your enthusiasm and creativity, not promises you’ve made to the audience about what you are going to work on. You do you, work on what makes you happy - even if that means not continuing with a project which you’ve ‘promised’ the audience you will work on. As someone who makes “content” too, I’m always floored by how much you get done - I think you can afford to slow things down a bit if you want to, perhaps taking what would be one video and splitting it into two or three slower ones to give you a bit of breathing room before the next new thing. Whatever works for you. Also I just realised your profile picture isn’t a temporary tattoo and is actually just bits of terrain stuck to your face. How have I only just noticed this? 😂

I watch a lot of creative people on here, and so many go through the kind of burn out you're describing. To me, a creator makes their best, most engaging content when they're truly enjoying what they're doing. I know you have to keep the fact that this is your job in mind, but as much as possible, do it for the love of it 💚

hey so yes its cool to watch these really big, impressive things. but its also just good to have your voice,, as its super calming. i found you looking for people making TTRPG's, as i started making one around the same time. and have fallen in love with the aesthetic of (most) your models. so just really taking some time to do you is really important. i cant wait to see what you have in store for next week! but i also know ill be happy with it no matter what it is. i cannot impress this enough, but you have been a big help with me not getting burnt out in my own megaproject of building a TTRPG.. and every time you upload, its like a surge or inspiration.

I cant tell you anything about video production/editing but i can tell you about project management. Cleaning is always the nuclear option, a great reset so glad to see you do some. Personally I live in a stupid big house for a single guy to live in (its only a 3b-2b house with a big basement and detracted garage for the loud shyt) so i have more then one workspace... that said that wasn’t always the case... the thing that still helps is to put things in a box a closed box, or a place covered with title card (that just expresses the idea of what’s inside, not too direct). Am super bipolar so even if i don’t work on any project I’ll see the different boxes/spaces and be like ‘what the hell did i mean by that?’ Then BAM! Memory just sparked and the time away from that project is ‘freshened’. It’s a double edged swords though... YOUR VIDEOS are great because of the rough edges and the fact that you can still pull off some pretty great stuff, and always entertaining because we can all relate to when things don’t work out and then when they do work out. Ugh if this helps i hope so. MENTAL HEALTH is right up there with WATER it takes time to be clear and filtered...

Miscast there is a spray you can get to spray on the resin to stop it from turning into the sticky mess! It is used a lot while casting molds from resin printed dice! I’ll be back with the bame of the product!! Hope this makes your life easier
