Ellie, you apologised for not having makeup on? Why, you are still the same person, intelligent, beautiful, and competent, never apologise for being who you are. Some women seem to feel that they can't leave home without it. Most guy's still can't understand how women can justify paying so much for their war paint and class it as a waste of money. Character lines are personality lines😁 At least we got to see inside the area of the tunnel, anticipation makes it better for when we get to see you out having a journey around the loop and conversation with a knowledgeable person who can give us all the information we need. Ellie, when you are finally able to snag someone connected to this for an interview, I have a couple of questions. 1: How do they handle crossing fault lines? It is known that these faults move and not necessarily together. 2: In the event of an earthquake in the range of magnitude 4 to 7, how would plan out rescue operations? 3: Lastly we know that fires can and likely will happen inside the tunnels. How do they plan to address the issues of ventilation, heat dissipation and fire and rescue operations. Just a couple of thoughts. In the meantime keep up the good work.
@TheGaussFan
@TheGaussFan 2 года назад
Seismic movement is much reduced when moving within the earth. Because the surface is unconstrained it is free to move. Thus the safest place to be in an earthquake is underground, and the design of underground structures for earthquake tolerance is easier than surface structures that are free to shake with large amplitude. Of course, how to handle a tunnel collapse needs to be thought thru and prepared for.

No, our four main weapons are fear and surprise, and ruthless efficiency, and a fanatic dedication to the Pope, and our nice red cloaks. No..... I'll start again. The Spanish Inquisition aside, it's difficult and expensive enough to build such things for trains, never mind cars. What happens in a thunder storm, or when a drunk driver f's up on their way to or from the casinos where they lose all their money? And now let's all do it in a vacuum. I was hoping Ellie wasn't going to go so far as the hyperloop. Not even Monty Python could swallow that one.

Tesla EVs catch fire 61x less than ICE cars and 137x less than hybrids according to the NTSB, and the new BYD LFP Blade batteries in the latest Teslas don’t even catch fire if you puncture them. In the extremely unlikely event of a fire, there is a comprehensive smoke suppression system that can move 400,000 cubic feet of air per minute in either direction down the tunnels, smoke and CO sensors and cameras everywhere, a Fire Control Centre staffed by 2 officers during all hours of operation, high pressure automatic standpipes in all tunnels for fire-fighting, an automatic sprinkler system rated at Extra Hazard Group 1 in the central station etc above and beyond what was required by the national and international fire codes including NFPA 130 - “Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems” and the 2018 International Fire Code (IFC).

The biggest glaring problem with the current tunnel in Vegas is it some times has traffic jams, and if something happens like there is a battery fire it will turn into a death trap with multiple cars stuck in between without any service tunnel to escape or bring rescue.

If a vehicle has a fire, the cars in front keep going forward. The cars behind reverse. If a tunnel doesn't have an emergency exit/service area, then it's because the stations are so close that those are irrelevant and no longer legally required. That's the case with the LVCC Loop. And all tunnels have/will have a massive ventilation system and fire detection system. They not only get approval from the local fire department, but they also test the safety of the system with both fire fighters and police, improving the system as needed.
@serronserron1320

@@anthonypelchat I haven't rode in this tunnel myself but a friend of mine was stuck in the tunnel for half an hour and he would have arrived sooner if he had walked. This configuration is really a prototype but it still has many flaws that allow for conventional traffic jams. And a battery fire is nothing to scoff at in a tunnel the vehicle would not be moving at all and firefighters would have a nightmare trying to put it out. I have stock in Tesla I love Tesla I wish I could afford a Tesla. But there are some problems with the technology. .
@anthonypelchat
@anthonypelchat 2 года назад
@@serronserron1320 That friend of yours lied. There has not been any traffic jams with this system. The only "traffic jam" so far was a roughly 1 min delay during a short period of time during a single day during CES this year. It caused a roughly 3 min ride to take just over 4 mins from start to finish. And it was due to driver failure during special circumstances for COVID restrictions. The SEMA event last year carried even more people without any issue at all. There has not been a single ride lasting 5 mins. 30 mins is impossible with the current system. As for fires, I never said that they were nothing. They are so extremely unlikely to happen in the tunnel as to be virtually impossible. But that doesn't matter. TBC is fully prepared for such a situation. They have passed all safety requirements for transit tunnels in the US. Further, they have ran dozens of drills with the local police and fire departments who have evaluated and signed off on the system. If nearly all safety officials in the city have agreed that something is safe, who are you to say otherwise?
@anthonypelchat
@anthonypelchat 2 года назад
@@serronserron1320 It is probably wrong to say that your friend lied. It is more likely simply a misunderstanding with either them or you. When I imagine colonies on Mars or the Moon, I imagine 100% underground living -- mainly for radiation protection. So, of all the other problems Elon is trying to solve, making tunneling cheaper is also essential.
@alanlight7740
@alanlight7740 2 года назад
Definitely. If not 100%, pretty close to it. There's absolutely no reason for sleeping quarters, routine transit, or most routine work spaces being aboveground on the Moon or on Mars - and as you say one very big reason (radiation) for them to be underground. Of course going underground also moderates temperatures, avoiding extremes.

Boring Tunnel is simply another transport option. It won't suit every need, but it will suit some needs very well. This isn't needed except during peak times, ie conventions and such, so it wouldn't make sense to have a subway system per se, but these using cars can be viable.

the Loop beats subways in all sorts of ways: - 34 mile 55 station Vegas Loop is being built for ZERO tax dollars vs $10 billion for a subway - 3-5x greater average speed - 0-15 second wait times vs 3, 5, 10, 30 minutes for trains - seated in comfort with 0-3 other people vs crammed standing with 1,000 people - silent EV vs screeching steel wheels on heavy train - convenient mini Loop stations at the front door of every hotel, casino, shopping centre etc - 8 stations per mile vs 1 subway station - kept safe with seat belts, airbags vs standing with crowds - much better COVID safety - 3-5x more energy efficient per passenger mile - build 50-100 miles of Loop tunnel for the price of 1 mile of subway tunnel - build 100 - 350 Loop stations for the price of one subway station - competitive passengers per hour thru the turnstiles
@Gerard1971
@Gerard1971 2 года назад
I agree with a lot of your points, even though they do come across rather biased. For the purpose it is for Loop may be a good system, but comparing Loop to public transport subway makes no sense, the convention center Loop is for people visiting conventions only and the Vegas Loop will not serve any residential locations, so it is only for tourists, not locals, and doesn't solve any traffic problem in Las Vegas, it will just put some taxi drivers out of business. So while it costs zero tax dollars, it also has zero benefits for tax payers, it only benefits TBC, LVCC and the casinos. The LVCC Loop was paid for by LVCC, in parts if TBC met certain targets. The speed is currently limited to 30 in curved and 40 on straight sections. The wait times are only that low when it is not busy, at CES 2022 when they had more than 60 cars running, traffic jams occurred in the tunnels, I guess because there are not enough parking spots in the stations to handle all the cars. There have also been cases recorded where going by foot was faster than via the Loop. They can only handle the required 4400 passengers per hour in controlled settings, but in uncontrolled settings the max has been 1355 passengers per hour. A typical metro train can transport 1000 people at once, but the "crammed standing" would only occur during peak hours. In most cases there would be enough seats available on a metro train. Also, for a system like this, you could do with light railway system. Screeching steel wheels shouldn't have to be an issue. I would rather sit in a metro train where I can move around, than in a Tesla or other small "pod" with strangers. Kept safe with seat belts? I would be more worried about the apparent lack of safety features in the tunnel themselves, if you look at the safety regulations for metro or car tunnels, I don't even understand how they can run these tunnels. Metro trains also are unlikely to crash in to each other.

I love the idea, but there is some longer term issues that all tunnels in cities have. Sand scarcity for concrete during construction effects all concrete structures, roads, buildings and tunnels as a now big environmental issue we all need to solve. Single lane tunnel vrs accidents. Self driving cars reduce the risk but how is a rescue performed. A battery fire in a tunnel would get some bad press. It is a private structure using a public resource (the ground) so this will always reduce the number of users only to self driving electric cars. What is the safe engineering depth required under large skyscrapers? 85 meters / 278 f. This is why approvals for tunnels can take years. It not the speed of the build but the speed for approvals. In some freeway tunnels ie 2 lane X 2 Lane they have huge air blowing fans. Sure the are for the gas cars and truck exhaust but they can also be used during fire to allow people time to flee by pulling fresh air in the tunnel and pulling smoke else where. So safety is concern, if they don't build some of these features. Nice tour.

I wish people wouldn't put as much emphasis on makeup and stuff like that. This isn't TV. We want reality. And no one wears makeup all the time.

Breakdowns, are the cars front and rear communications with each car?
@fredbloggs5902
@fredbloggs5902 2 года назад
If they see the car in front stopped then they know it and stop themselves, it isn’t rocket science 🤣 Breakdowns with EVs will be virtually non existent, especially in the controlled environment of a tunnel.

There is WiFi and cellular service throughout the tunnels. Every part of the tunnels is under video surveillance. The cars each have a second screen that’s custom for the loop. I assume they can get messages there. I saw a video where a driver said they would turn the tunnel lights solid red as a signal to drivers to keep the tunnel entrance clear for drivers in the tunnel to reverse out.

The inefficiency of having a car for every 3 passengers plus driver is mind blowing, the fact that the tunnel have no emergency areas is scary. How someone can think that this is the future of transportation? Only in the head of this carcentric crazy people

@@fredbloggs5902 even if the were autonomous, a tunnel for a 4 passenger... There is nothing extraordinary about this, this is not mass transit

@@bovo698 the advantage over ‘mass transit’ is it’s point to point. And when they scale to 12x passenger autonomous the throughput will be considerably higher.

What’s the point? 1) EVs are 3x more efficient 2) EVs have zero emissions in the tunnel 3) ICE engines are noisier 4) LPG is much more dangerous in the event of an accident

***Critique here Ellie*** Great video as always, but having the sound of your voice go just to the left side is very bothersome. I love your videos but this is at least the second time I've noticed the narrator voice switched just to the left side. It makes it hard to follow, I feel off balance. lol!
