Hi everyone, welcome to a new video! This one is part of a series on Jane Austen, where I will be reviewing recently published books on her - they could be retellings of her stories or books about her life and times. The Other Bennet Sister follows the events in Mary Bennet's life in and beyond Austen's original novel, as the death of her father brings about the inevitable displacement, as well as questions about what Mary truly wants for her future...
You can buy The Other Bennet Sister here: www.amazon.co.uk/Other-Bennet...

ZOMG! I see myself in your description of Mary! When I was in college the book Miss Manners' Guide to Excrutiatingly Correct Behavior came out, and I studied that book more closely than anything else I was studying at the time because of my own feelings of social insecurity and inferiority.

Thanks for watching, David! I agree, as a bookworm myself I find a lot of these portrayals of Mary really relatable!

I have the book from Audible, and enjoyed it very much. It tells the story from Mary's point of view, and extends past the end of P&P. The author does a very good job of using some of Jane's style, but no author can repeat it entirely.

No, repeating it is impossible, but I really enjoy seeing how different authors have discovered such distinct ways of thinking about her novels and her characters 🙂

I recommend "Fitzwilliam Darcy in his own words", by Shannon Winslow. It fills in the gaps when he is not mentioned in P&P. He almost marries someone else. ( not Miss Bingley)😉

A succinct, measured review of this alternate view and re-imagination of the Bennet's world. I thought the characterizations were fair, and the ones Hadlow beat up deserved it. My spouse and I both enjoyed it.

Check out "Wickham's Second Attempt" by Monika Barbara Potocki. It focuses on Georgiana, Elizabeth and Darcy much more than it does Wickham. It is so wonderful #WickhamsSecondAttempt

Thank you so much for the review, I'm looking forward to reading this book. I made the mistake of buying The Forgotten Sister by Jennifer Paynter and just started that. Awful!!!! I abandoned that one after a few chapters. It was very boring and has a whole family that never existed in P&P move into netherfield. I don't want to read about a cast I've never heard of and don't exist in the original!!! What a rip off, if she wanted to write a whole different story that's fine, just don't cash in on the name of Jane Austen to do it! Shameless. So i was feeling downhearted but am more hopeful about this one, The Other Bennet Sister

This book is very popular. I find that the readers who like it are those who identify with Mary personally. But for me, Mary is the Bennett sister I"m probably least like. I very much disliked this book
