Wilco has been on the music scene for nearly two decades but, as Cynthia Bowers reports, they might be finally getting the mainstream popularity many say they deserve.
0:01- Cissy Strut (The Meters), 0:50- Wilco the song, 1:39- Either Way, 1:55- You Are My Face, 2:40- What Light, 3:32- You Never Know, 4:07- Handshake Drugs, 4:56- Side With the Seeds, 5:40- Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down (traditional), 6:01- Monday, 6:20- What's the World Got In Store, 7:21- You and I, 7:32- The Thanks I Get.
This is a classic example of the depth and universality in America's new musical paradigm. Literally hundreds of bands are out there poised for the right moment to come into the auditorium after such a lengthy time of beating down the doors with their instruments while the public eyes and ears have been filled with the music industry's hype groups and trend followers. The Wilco's and Black Keys of our nation are demanding their time has arrived. Clearly it has, so take notice.
I gaved Wilco a ride yesterday here in Denver before his concert and god they are great guys! Forgot to get pictures with him or even his autograph. (I’m a lyft driver)
i love wilco so much; they're probably my favourite band, and it's pretty much one of my life's goals to catch a show of theirs (haven't had any luck haha). whether or not wilco become even bigger than they already are makes no difference to me, as long as they continue to make the amazing music they make . . . wilco are always going to be something special!
Lets get something straight, Wilco/Jeff Tweedy got their start literally 2 miles from my fucking house in Belleville, Illinois, not fucking Chicago........
When I was ~18yo, coming from a background in (post-)punk / garage rock, I was broadening my musical horizons and became interested in funk. Someone gave me a tape with Meters songs: "here, learn this! It's the funk 101. It's good for you." So great to see Tweedy educating his son with these deceptively simple, yet so powerful, songs. Every musician should study The Meters, and learn the art of stripping music to its core.
@dodie2casey Do you know what? I agree about the Mermaid Avenue recordings! Billy Bragg was the perfect coupling for that. As far as Son Volt's second configuration, I'm going to check that out. :)
@dodie2casey I wouldn't say UT was much better or even better. But if you really like that sound you can listen to Son Volt. Jay is still playing the same lick.
they only have one album that has great pop songs.. and those are the songs they play at the end of their gig.. the rest of their music - they try to be experimental, with noise and weird dynamics.. dont get me wrong i like Wilco... but they dont try to write hits.. only people who appreciate music for its purest sake like WILCO.. Get Being There. thats their best album. Geez he looks like a kid here..
I'm gonna make a bold statement here and say that jeff tweedy/ wilco is way better than bob dylan and neil young put together. wilco = under rated ... neil young/ bob dylan = over rated. ESPECIALLY bob dylan.
