There's something magical about this place || Cabin on a Cliff

I last posted 2 weeks ago because the process of siding is slow and tedious, and I just didn't want to post something until I had enough done to make the cabin look different than the last time. In my opinion, this is worth the wait - let me know what you think.
I now have 2 sides of the cabin sided, and I feel like most of the challenging parts are over. I have a bit of experience now with things, so hopefully the next 2 walls will be less 'up and down' so-to-speak. Hopefully I have enough lumber for the job, but if not, I will just mill some more! Join me at the sawmill soon!
Now, I can sit here and critique my work to no end, and the gable end at the front doesn't look quite as good as I hoped (maybe all black would have looked better), but it's not worth changing! I think the back will look better with longer spans of the wood both vertically and horizontally.
Of course, my chipmunk friends are back! Yay!! There is one specifically out of the bunch I've seen (I've seen about 4-5) that crawls up on me, and he is the only one, so I am certain that's Johnny from last year. So cute. 🥰
As always, I appreciate you tuning in and watching the journey(s) of my life.
See you in the next one!
M 💜💜
(P.S. Yes, I will sand down and paint/stain the sliding glass door black to match AND I will eventually install a railing 😉😁)

@@michygoss7148 That was true of my wife too. Sometimes it didn't come out as casually expected, like when inserting a foley catheter or a syringe for a blood draw. But when our poor feline was in the latter stages of GI cancer, her decisiveness in putting our sweet family member out of her suffering was startling. It took me quite awhile to understand it for the loving and compassionate decision it was.

@@michygoss7148 In the last year and a half of my mother's life, I encountered many nurses, and the majority of them were fantastic. Sadly, there were a few I wouldn't trust as animal control officers, and some who seemed more suited to a profession as a prison guard. Watching your videos, and watching the cabin come to life has been a welcome distraction, and is still amazing. I expect you're a fantastic nurse-- even if you are part squirrel, part carpenter and part lumberjack.

Fabulous work Michelle! I've been watching your channel since near the beginning of this cabin build, and am astounded by how much stamina and sheer physical effort you have put into this build, by yourself! With all the "mental gymnastics" and doubt you've had in yourself, you have endured, figured out everything, and come up with a solution that will do the job. The emotional, mental and physical input you have invested in this is huge! I bet you've clocked up many 100s, if not 1000s of miles travelling out to your paradise lake property with the pooches, cat and Steve at times, in all types of hot and freezing cold winter weather! You, my dear lady are one very classy high value woman who accomplishes what she dreams, desires, plans, then builds! Thank you so much for sharing yourself and your family with us, every week or so. Blessings from me in NZL, David ❤

Welcome to the elite carpenters club comprised of individuals who have made 15 degree sills with a circ saw and a sander! One of the percs is the ability to ignore the advice of individuals who googled manufactured siding spec sheets in a desperate attempt to seem adequate. Each piece of custom milled anything has its own personality and needs when it comes to fastening. You're doing great! On an unrelated note: As someone who has jumped off of many perfectly good things in his life, you CAN use a triple wrapped D ring as a decelerator in a pinch when you've left your figure 8 elsewhere, watched it bounce down the side of a mountain, etc. :)

You are amazing! Dont sweat the small stuff, you built an entire cabin on a freakin cliff, it doesnt have to be perfect to be amazing! My suggestion for the flashing around the windows, you could do a decorative frame around each window. It would cover all the flashing and be a nicer finish than the bottoms of the siding.

It is your cabin do the way you want to. All that matters is how you feel about the work you do. I think it looks great

GoodBraveheart, In this video i get the impression that after a slow start you are getting better and better in your elements. Many of your physical and mental skills comes together. Stay tuned to your intuition, after overthinking and listening to comments. This project is yours, so the decisions you make are good. Take f.i. the vertical placed planks. The look of the outside within all the trees, matches de vertical standing of (most) trees. You placed the planks in its natural position. From the view of the drone, you can see an organic building, wood in wood. Very, very beautiful. Go on that path, and the attitude at the altitude of the cabin shows that there stands a proud human.

Michelle, there is something very magical about the place but mother nature aside, the most magical ingredient has been you. Your vision, your ingenuity, your hard work - just you! Love the place, when is it going on AirBNB ;) Joking.... You are way too harsh on yourself. What you've done is sensational. It looks like it belongs there and inside is just perfect. If I needed a cabin building, I'd hire you!

Funny that in the last minute you shared some thoughts on life that I shared with a close friend from high school. She went her way, I went mine. We both created lives that we look back on now and wish it was different. I said we can't go back now however, we can go forward with a positive outlook for the remaining future. Love the style of your siding.

Love the ending comments; I will keep those bits of ideology handy for my own moments of doubt and grumpiness. The cabin siding look great. I also especially love the large front windows. Keep up the great videos Michy..
