There's still Gold at the Abandoned Eldorado Gold Mine, Ontario

There's still gold at the abandoned Eldorado Gold mine in Ontario. History books state the highly improbable theory that all the gold at the now abandoned Eldorado Gold Mine in Ontario was concentrated in a single fissure, but in reality the area was leaking gold out in the pockets of the many workers. According to Kim Woodside, there were many mines that could have been productive.

In 1993 I mined the Gold mine closest to the Madoc post office.It was about 200 feet deep and consisted of an incline and an escape raise. The mine was running at 89 grammes a tonne. The mine was shut down because of Bre Ex.

Or maybe we have livestock and crops, and outsiders have zero regard for fences or bulls--or LGDs. There are huge liabilities to having people wander your property. This woman is bypassing the insanity of gold-crazed trespassers (and potential explosives etc) by offering tours etc. Good on her, but to label the rest of us anal and selfish--you go buy your own chunk of Canada and pay insurance, taxes and fencing, then deal with loose and missing stock, cut fences, and trespassers crying they were attacked by an LGD--then you'll have a wakeup call!

Every, EVERY abondoned gold mine has still got gold in it. It's only a simple case of is it worth to get it out there or will it cost more then that it's worth.
@gearhead5651
@gearhead5651 8 лет назад
Correct. My uncle had a company come out to this mine. The gold thats left is now in small vains. At the time gold was less than 400oz. It was going to cost as much as could be mined. So from a business aspect it was not worth it. But its a fun for people to explore. My uncle built a home here and sold a few years back.
@kimkipling9082
@kimkipling9082 7 лет назад
A proposal to mine was presented to your uncle in 2001 by Phelps Dodge. Cliff didn't like the guy in charge and said no to the proposal ( copy of proposal on view in rock shop). The copper mine was then sold in 2006 to a platinum company who still make offers for mining here. The gold runs north/south with a small deposit also discovered in the top fields direct north of the original discovery. A person must have all the information covering the entire 100 acres to have a full understanding of what happened and what is still here. Your uncle kept the fields in hay and I let a local farmer plow them under. The plowing revealed the original river bed and glacial movement towards the marsh. This creek has moved 20 feet from its original path. In creating this park I have been able to find so many mistakes previously recorded. Re discovering and documenting the crosscut shaft changes everything that we once thought. The crosscut is still there ( see video Richardson goldmine reveals its secrets) at the very bottom of this shaft and the veining impossible to described. I never show any mining company the entire site.

This shaft is known as the Hardin Shaft and it was dug in 1885-1886. At the very bottom of this shaft is the 40 foot crosscut. When you were here the Hardin shaft still had high water levels and the entrance to the crosscut was still under water. This summer due to the drought we were able to get into and video the crosscut shaft which connects the Hardin shaft to the Richardson incline shaft. ( see video Richardson Goldmine reveals its secret.)

I would not get too excited about this. You should read about the Idaho Maryland gold mine. It is a gold mine that produced the second most gold in the United States but was shut down in WW2. A company named Rise Gold from Vancouver has bought the property with the expectation of mining the the huge reserves of gold still in the ground. The project is moving very slowly, tells me an Eldorado gold mine will never happen.

She's confused about the "fizzing quart" ! Quartz does not fizz from the acid test. Calcite Does. But it IS within the quartz that you are likely to find any gold.

I put a specimen in hydrogen peroxide. it fizzed and I was able to crumble it up.
@SnowTiger45
@SnowTiger45 8 лет назад
+michael therrien Then I'd argue that the sample was not quartz. I think a Hardness Test should have first been conducted to confirm the specimen's identity. I think you'd find it was either Calcite OR Flourite.

I have been exploring Temagami mines for years, been to at least 10 of them. There are lots of different metals in the area, including gold, silver, iron, copper, nickel, platinum, palladium, lead, zinc, cobalt and molybdenum. I'm thinking about doing some gold prospecting this summer.
@Caver461
@Caver461 9 лет назад
Lava6409 Very exciting. It appears that some of the better local deposits are in morains and eskers - sadly unsorted as the last ice age was only 14000 years ago. good luck - let me know how it goes.
@Lava6409
@Lava6409 9 лет назад
Caver461 The Temagami area is very under explored, given the fact that there has been very little mineral exploration here since the 1960s. A new company founded in Cobalt last year believes that there are several spots conducive to hosting gold deposits that could be well over 1 million oz. in the Temagami Greenstone Belt so I'm hoping there will be another mine in the area. I'm supposed to get a gold detector this summer to scan sediment, rock formations and maybe mine tailings.

@gearhead5651
@gearhead5651 8 лет назад
this was my uncles property untill it was sold a few years ago. he sold the mineral rights with the property a few years back. they can dig all they want. we had a mining company investigate and the mine comtains only 5% gold and at h time its costs more to mine than what would be in profit. people use to tresspass so he took a tractor and filled in mostof the entrances early 80 some people were hurt because part of the mine caved in. so,if your upthere besure to insured if you get hurt.
@Caver461
@Caver461 8 лет назад
+gear head Interesting, who was your Uncle?
@kimkipling9082
@kimkipling9082 8 лет назад
+jenny minny . Hello Jenny. This property along with the 3 joining properties are actually still zoned as commercial mines and each of us land owners own the mineral rights. Trespassing is never the right choice and due to the zoning removal of rock is illegal. Much the same as us entering your back yard and say removing your new patio furniture. For this reason I give daily tours of the 14 mines ( only the shallow entrances were filled ). By todays mining standards this area would be considered test holes. The previous owner was quite the character with many stories to tell. Madoc Township has so many different minerals but all the mines are privately owned. Bancroft is the area for collecting sites.

Sure there is, the only thing they got was what was obviously in, plain sight, gold will get encrusted with outher minerals and dirty, when it does this it doesn't look like gold. How much did they throw out of the sluice box or pan because it didn't look like gold. It is still there.

@kimkipling9082
@kimkipling9082 8 лет назад
+jenny minny . All tiny farms in this area have mining holes of some type. Gold silver copper iron florite and talc, the list is huge and with the title of the property you have surface rights. Many of these properties also have the mineral rights included. The mining was attempted 150 years ago with minimal equipment. Blasting powder and fire) The majority of holes no deeper then 10 feet. In a 5 mile radius we can collect almost every crystal from celestite to diamonds. ( Sophia Gold and Diamond Mine). Cost of living is low, crime rate even lower and we don't speak French without a translator.

Caver461 Sorry to hear that, is this a technicality or is there more to it? You should go back to the Miller property for some of that beautiful amazonite....but it's a bit hidden from the main area;) Also for interest, I once talked to a club member at the Laflech caves in Quebec and he revealved that 80-90% of the caves in the area are on low-key private lands. It might be worth networking in the area?

@Caver461 9 лет назад
Matthew Courville Thanks for the tips, the cave network is pretty tight and I believe it was Marc-andre or Corneile that you spoke to at LaFleche (marc is the head guide). I've done a fair bit of caving with them. I would love to devote a trip to amazonite. Not sure what is going on with the mindat, I'll try figure it out tonight. I had wanted to comment on some stuff from Michael Adomiwicz and also the Madoc trip by Frank Festa - it is truly a good resource and the articles are invaluable. I have a few videos in the lineup - next one was from some great finds Jeff and I scored at Bear Lake. Just waiting for a bit before that goes up.
