same for me. It's two years ago and I will never forget this moment. There is a lot of songs coming and going, but this one hits right into my heart. It's the deepest song of all songs out there
@@diepimmelkuh1341 I heard it about 30 years ago when I was a younger. The whole album is really good. Timeless melody is another example and looking glass
Have you listened to a timeless melody live acoustic in Canada. It's one of the best unplugged tunes you'll hear. Lee and john both playing an acoustic guitar
@@jamesjames9275 Endless,Tears in the rain,I am the key,Over,Man Im only human,The Kitchen tape, all great timeless lyrically melodically great and makes it sound so effortless....timeless🎶🎵🎶
Great to hear you talk so highly about The La’s and Lee Mavers’ great 👍 songwriting. A group formed not far from where I live - ie Liverpool - just up the road from me (Manchester) - Thanx for the lesson btw - Cheers 🥂 and a slightly belated Happy New Year to you !
James, you are the best! The vocal delivery on your comment about the Sixpence version is comedy gold, thank you! As always your playing and your lessons are top shelf, thank you!
This is the song that inspired me to start playing guitar again :) My parents bought me a guitar when I was 11, but I gave up. And then I started playing guitar at 12 again but I got frustrated so again, I gave up again. Now, I'm 13 and I heard this song when I watched Parent Trap so it really inspired me to play guitar and now, I enjoy playing the guitar!! Thank you for the tutorial! It really helped :)
Thinking the same mate it’s a Gibson J200 played one myself. Best guitar I’ve ever played so smooth and has the most pure acoustic sound I’ve ever heard. Away been my dream guitar and hope to own one day.
JJ, I just wanted to thank you for this, and ALL of the the other songs you've taught me here, and on your previous channel. You've expanded my repitiore, and more importantly, my skill level, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate it. And, you're fun to watch!
One of the Greatest Guitar Pop songs of all Time, It takes me back to a Simpler Happier time when young people picked up Instruments and wrote songs about teenagers dreams instead of playing Pointless Soul and Life Sucking Computer Games and all that 💩.. Great Lesson James , The Las one and only Album is Great check it out , The Song OVER is a Masterpiece but they are all Great songs ⭐️🌞👍🏻❤️
yours are hands down the best videos for learning tunes on guitar. I'm not in the same universe as far as playing but I have all the challenges I need here. Thanks.
that was very helpful - im learning the song to cover in my band, i agree with all your notes (i also always play those thicker inversions of chords where possible!). cheers👍.
Excellent! This is THE song that inspired me to finally, at age 49, nearly 50, to learn guitar.m I must have played this a thousand times. I need to learn that little walk down to the A minor chord, and have always tried to play my D with the F# and the A muted, but I have small hands and have a tough time getting that F# to ring out with my thumb. But I can mute that low E string and get the Open A to ring out. Will try that tonight! Thanks again. Your vids, as always, are awesome! If you are taking requests for something I do not think I have seen on either of your channels, Oh Tara by the Knack which is really a two guitar song, and Freedom at Point Zero by Jefferson Starship. Two most excellent tunes from my senior year, 1979. Thanks again!
I've looked at four How To Play videos for this. As usual, yours is by far the best! What I really like about the way you do your videos is that you play through the whole song with a great look at what your fingers are doing, and then show how to play it. As a raw beginner, I find I'm learning more from you than anything else I do. And t's fun!! Agree with you about this being one of the greatest pop songs ever. Mind you, I thought it was about infatuated love until it was pointed out it's really about drug addiction. Too bad the La's lead guitarist/song writer was so picky about how the La's were recorded. Who knows how big they could have become if they'd just let the producer do his stuff. It is a great album and currently available on youtube. Thanks once again for posting your videos. Please keep up the great work :-)
Hey man. Thanks for this lesson. Im from Liverpool so love The La's. (Slightly) off subject question, but one I've thought of asking you a few times and never bothered...If you could only own one acoustic and one electric guitar, what make, model, year etc would you choose? thanks
So your transition from Cadd9 to Am looks to me like: 1. Strum Cadd9. Notes C E G D E 2. Lift index finger, still strum Cadd9. Notes C D G D E 3. Lift Middle finger, use index finger to fret B note at fret 2 on A string leaving ring finger still on D note at 3d fret of B string. Chord is now G6 with B as the bass note. Notes are B D G D E. 4. Lift ring finger. Chord is still G6 with B as the bass note. Notes are B D G B E. Is that right? Thanks!
Well I love this song - thanks for the lesson - Excellent! as usual. I also bought the CD: 12p from Amazon (plus £1.26pp) so quite a bargain - not sure I'm into all the lyrics: "knowledge" & "porridge"? But some stunning sounds - which I think is what Lee was really in to. This is miles apart from that other lot you mentioned - Steve Lillywhite mix? (On this.)
Your T-Shirt; Did you say 'Bill F'ing Murray' or something else? I can't quite work it out. But I want one! What does the label say please? Thanks for posting this vid by the way, it's helped in my effort to learn the lead part on a keyboard.
From Liverpool and always very critical about music that originates from my city but you absolutely nailed that. Is that a J200 vintage ? Sounds amazing.
@@jamesjames9275 have you heard ' I am the key' or 'endless' 'over' 'come in come out' 'Clean Prophet' 'man I'm only human' 'Rebound''Tears in the rain's and so on..some great La's stuff on ToneGarvey channel bro keep it up Mavers should have been massive but walked away and hated that album they brought out.Listen to 'La's live in Newyork from 91' and that was the order for the album with enough material for two records right there..keep on keeping this great mostly unheard music alive bro🙌🔥👍
Love this song, such a shame that Lee Mavers seemed to succumb to the paranoia and self destruction that prevents him from putting anything else out in the past 25+ years. I read an extended interview with him in a great book called Isle of Noise by Daniel Rachel. It's a series of modern interviews with British songwriters across the genres of the last 50 years.
Is James Ok? Last I saw him he was in a sling. I'm asking 1/31/23 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dbMAMrqe8Hk.html but he misses the E Minor which sounds correct to me. and I agree with you that chord is what you show at 8:40
You hit the nail on the head when you said six pence ruined it. The very first release by La's was not that great, but they had to re-record multiple times. The final version is perhaps the best of the pop songs ever!
THANK YOU for putting right up front that the Sixpence None the Richer version is so terrible! It's my go-to example of how to NOT do a cover version. The way they changed the entire feel and meaning of the song into a syrupy feelgood number was just awful.
James James Maybe. Most (not all) of the band has denied the drug angle, but I think they all agree that singer Lee Mavers had some pretty serious issues with junk, and he's too smart not to have known how lyrics about stuff running through his veins would be interpreted. Maybe not "about" heroin, but pretty sure it plays off the imagery. Great song either way.
