I guess it’s subjective but this was really exhilarating in my opinion. His ideas are executed with such unbelievable rhythmic precision. You can tap in and just appreciate his flow even if you’re struggling to follow the harmonic intent.
@TheAffluenza The harmonic intent posed ZERO problem for me. The very model of clarity. (Of course, I know the song already, and it's a regular harmonic pattern. I can't speak for the less cultivated listener.)
The first time I heard this solo was in high school and our entire high school jazz band was shocked at how incredible it was. It's nice to see it pop up on my feed again.
Maan, I'm so glad I'm not the only fan of this solo. I've been returning to that video every once in a while for inspiration and that solo certainly is one of my favorites.
I’m glad I’m not the only who liked this solo the most, although all of them were phenomenal. I still hum this solo 10 years later every now and then, that’s how tasty it was
I saw Arturo perform at the Iron Horse in Northampton MA about 30 years ago . . . he looks older than I remember :) I remember some very long solos and he even scatted on a number of tunes.
"E flat is the best key." says Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, oh ...and every piano guy! Excellent play and transcription here. I like to watch. Don't tell. Send more!
@@iliyajavadian Someone did the trumpet solo only a few days ago I think xD Looks like the algorithm spiked it and everyone who hadn't seen it before is seeing it all within a few days.
Can somebody explain what he’s doing here? Is there a specific scale that he’s using? Because I find it hard to believe any human can do this just by using their ears.
@@ulrichvansuntum9606 Neither! it's my transcription of his improvisation! he does not play after the notes and the notes aren't "generated", they are written by me! hope that helps!
@@iliyajavadian Naa men i'm just joking ! I'm a more of a Bud Powell disciple. It's just a different approche. I know i should keep my mouth shut somtimes. Great solo anyway. (But please no more of that!)😉
@@milesstover3724 in my channel I have many videos of solos and jazz songs I have covered/played myself, like Quennel Gaskin, Michel Camilo, Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson solos. My favorite example of an amazing solo is the one I covered from Erroll Garner's "Just one of those things" version... I don't talk just by talking btw...
I agree. These solos are too long and generic. I think the performers like hearing themselves morethan the audience. To me, it's glorified cocktail music.
I truly feel sorry (and I don't mean that patronizingly, I promise I am sincere) that you don't hear and feel what many of us hear and felt. It's like tasting delicious food that many people have enjoyed and appreciated and it tastes like cardboard in your mouth - it's a valid subjective experience, but sometimes ya have to stop and think if it's your tongue that's the problem as opposed to the food if there are so many people that are clearly moved by it
I personally don't like this solo all that much, too "colorful" if anyone knows what I mean xD The bebop lines were really nice but the chord stuff drives me up the wall, too dissonant in the end for me.
@@iliyajavadian Yeah I listen to a lot of swing music from the 30s and some very early bebop stuff but nothing quite as out there as this. I'll probably understand this stuff more as I get older, musical maturity might grace my ears.
@@PiotrBarczExcept this is not out there at all. If you don’t like the density of these chords then surely you must not enjoy Oscar Peterson, Red Garland, Bill Evans and many other influential pianists who utilized the same stock chord left hand octave + fifth right hand motif. What’s the point of playing the piano over other instruments if not for the chords right? Granted, everyone is entitled to their own musical tastes so enjoy what you wish to.
@@psyarts8687 I'm a huge fan of Peterson, I just don't listen to the more experimental stuff that he did with crazy chord voicing. And I say the harmonies are out there because compared to the 30s swing music and ragtime from even farther before, yes, this is like space age music xD Bill Evans I don't like all that much, too all over the place for me to be honest.
@@PiotrBarczcompared to other pianists, Bill Evans is known for the lyricism of his lines, as opposed to doing a lot of quotes and licks. One of the least “all over the place” pianists.
