I believe Woodward Avenue is the dividing line between West Side and East Side. Yes, there is a NW Detroit. I'm not from Detroit but I have family there and everybody I personally know lives in or is from NW Detroit. In fact I was just there this past weekend and visited my uncle who lives just off W 7 Mile. Some decent neighborhoods over there. I'm a gospel music head and a LOT of gospel legends and even soul music legends are from NW Detroit. You don't hear much about it but Detroit is HUGE for gospel music. Grammy winning artists and legends call that city home, and NW Detroit is basically the center of it. I'm not 100% sure but I think anything west of Woodward and north of, say, I94 is basically considered NW Detroit.
