The scariest thing about Shockwave is that he isn't evil out of malice or spite or anger, he's evil because he believes that all ends are justified by their means.
In that note technically speaking he’s not even a Decepticon he just works with them because they give him the resources required to do his experiments. I’m sure if the autobots gave him more tools, resources, and gear he would easily switch sides just like that.
He literally tried to end the universe AND then went back in time, became a PRIME and again tried to destroy everything by helping Unicron come into existence.
You know Shockwave is seriously and mentally ill when even Megatron, the biggest antagonist on the franchise, the symbol of evil that is Decepticon, *HESITATED* when viewing Shockwave’s evil plan.
There was a running gag in IDW, that, whenever something we didn't understand happened, we'd say "Shockwave did it." Now, imagine my surprise, when, in the tail-end of the entire series, they reveal...THAT SHOCKWAVE ACTUALLY DID IT. What a magnificent bastard. Love the guy.
There’s really something interesting how over the last decade or so shockwave went from a loyal lackey to a threat bigger than the main villain of the franchise
@@universalflamethrower6342 marvel shockwave managed to almost get the decepticons to victory over the autobots and he still pales in comparison to idw shockwave
I can’t believe you forgot to mention what he did in Cyberverse after the initial plan to control the Allspark *failed.* He tore his own spark out so that he’d enter the Allspark. The issue here is that he’d tainted his spark to make it *so evil* that even touching the Allspark nearly obliterated it. And he knew this would happen. Was specifically aiming for that result, in fact. This man tore out his own spark in an attempt to *destroy the equivalent of the Cybertronian Afterlife.* Say what you will about the other Shockwaves, at least they only killed you once. This Shockwave was going to *erase every Cybertronian that has ever died.*
Kinda ruined by immediately being countered by Cheetor doing same plan in reverse. Shockwave being to stupid to kill the guardian there, or atleast make sure the equipment would be disabled after his death. And worst of all it seemed more like he was just following Megatron's order to do it
I wanna make a small correction, Transformers Prime Shockwave was actually left for dead, and was blind after fighting Arcee and Cliffjumper, he later awoke in the wreckage of his space bridge after Cybertron had been abandoned, this makes him surviving an even bigger feat since he first had to repair his eye, this is also why Starscream was so shocked and really afraid in the scene of Shockwaves return since he was the one to leave Shockwave for dead.
He was shot in the most sensitive part of his body, had a spacebridge blow up with him inside it, and he *still survived.* His durability’s ridiculous.
@@CasualNickname He has enough endurance and durability feats to surpass even Megatron in TFP, Shockwave has objectively better armour, the best actually, in a bot that isn't upgraded or other than Autobot/Decepticon
I remember Shockwave confront Starscream as for why he was left on Cybertron. Starscream said that since the planet was deserted they didn't expect Shockwave to came out Shockwave's response? "Your reason... is logical"
A reminder that in Transformers Prime Shockwave was considered such an incredible threat that Megatron considered him significant enough to literally change the tide of the war with the autobots
@@CasualNickname Shockwave is that big of a threat considering g he brought a whole species back from the dead and did the Cybertronian equivalent of Body horror to the Lightnigjt strike force to make them into the Dinobots
Remember that shockwave once decided to end the known universe twice cause it was inefficient, just for the face value of true meaning and logic You dont fear a man who wants vengeance or glory or domination, you fear Shockwave, a character who would do anything if it fits his cognitive function, even ending existence
@@davisdf3064 that would be understating shockwave as a character, his decisions are of his own logical conclusion, there is no voice, no outside force affecting his choices other than the factors to his conclusions, he doesnt just wake up and be like: hey imma end the world now. No, he wakes up, see its half pass 9 and contemplate on why time moves so fast and uncontrolable, and he will find a way to bend time to his will, so when he wakes up it will always be 7:30, thats shockwave, thats his decision to bend a force of reality because its not ideal Instead of just setting an alarm clock, but hey you gotta be efficient, a clock would take effort, while time bending is forever
its pretty hilarious that shockwave pretty much said, im going to end existance, logically it makes sense. its such a coked out, rick james thing to do!
Shattered glass shockwave must be a literal saint Edit: Of all the smarts comments I've made this is the one people care about the most. Remember aspiring RU-vidrs, its not about having quality content to give to the world, its about being as excruciatingly early as possible!
He is actually pretty good. Here’s his profile on tfwiki: “Kindly and well-spoken, Shockwave is a well of empathy. An older bot, who uses his massive arm-cannon as a cane more than as a weapon, works to build bridges between beings. Compassionate and wise, he lets his spark lead him, whether as a Senator or as the Decepticon ambassador to Earth. Even attempts to curb his nature by his enemies have only made his empathetic nature more powerful, to the point of overwhelming him. While his compassion leads to his use of a defensive fighting style, his firepower is more than capable of taking down any Autobot who threatens those he protects.”
Shockwave in prime is always terrifying. Whatever happens you know he will mess someone up when he's on screen. Even the good guys feared him. They often refuse to fight him unless they have every advantage.
Shockwave is such a gamechanger that the instant Megatron found out he survived, he considered it a better find than the Iacon Relics they recovered, including the Immobilizer and the Apex Armor.
Fun Fact! Shockwave is the one and only Decepticon, that Megatron is terrified of. He outranks Megatron in nearly every category; the only thing keeping him from overthrowing Megatron is his loyalty.
I like to think that he only allowed himself to be under Megatron's command so that he doesn't have to deal with managing any of the deceptions and other stuff that aren't super important to his scientific cause so that he can focus solely on his experiments. Megatron had the following and man power, Shockwave knew he needed that to continue his work, so it makes sense to keep Megatron alive... so long as it continues to benefit him.
Well Megatron leaves Shockwave to his own devices. So much so that Shockwave becomes the default Guardian of Cybertron in Megatron’s absence. Also Shockwave has no charisma and would rule through fear. Everyone would flock to bots like Starscream if Shockwave took over
@cantgame4now152 Shockwave: "Allow me to write a 42042 page essay debunking your so-called 'argument'. But first let state what is a sound and an unsound argument."
So shockwave tried to turn the ponies of equestria into energon but the reason that failed was because the power of friendship was too much for him? I love it.
@@ADAJ342 I say if it were put in a more logical sense, the ponies would have defeated him using their various magics they have, which if used correctly, can be a deadly weapon
Don't forget that in the TFA continuity he shoved Blur into a compacter and cubed the poor bot after he got too close to figuring out that shockwave was longarm.
I still can't get over the reveal of the Senator being Shockwave all along. That was both shocking and genuinly sad. Shadow Play was easily one of the darkest and most f***ed up concepts ever introduced into Transformers
Yeah when I first read the comics/Shadow Play, I can’t lie I did tear up a bit at the panel with the empurata. It was so dark and I genuinely didn’t see it coming. Just thinking about a concept like that even happening in real life gives me chills, and the worse part is that Shockwave doesn’t ever “get fixed” or change back to his old self. He stays a villain even to the the end of the series
It's possible that Shockwave didn't want to change back. It's possible that he viewed Shadowplay as the best thing that ever happened to him. Edit: I read that Shockwave claimed to have been pulling people's strings since day one and that the Shadowplay did nothing to curb his ambitions, so my point becomes much more possible. Edit 2: I read that Shockwave felt liberated by the Shadowplay, so my point is totally possible.
As a kid I just saw shockwave as another decepticon but after seeing this video and reading the comments section along with rewatching transformers prime.... *He made unicron and Megatron look like black air force 1 kids PRETENDING to be war criminals*
This showcases why Shockwave is the best deception in the hole franchise next to Megatron. He’s cold blooded and ruthless, but at the same time cold and calculating. He’s strong, with plenty of firepower. But also insanely smart and is able to build incredible weapons and technology. He’s also got the brains and patience to make these big picture plans that can effect the hole universe. And if he betrays someone, it’s not completely obvious or over something petty. It’s for a reason and you’ll never see him coming. The guys the complete total package.
I remember someone left a comment that pretty much summed him up perfectly, when he’s comic relief, it black humor, but when they make him a threat, it’s gallows horror. It is SO accurate to him. Everything he does is disturbing and dark, even when they make him comic relief
In the idw comics Shockwave was a monster to fight against literally. He was able to defeat the whole dinobot team by experiencing gamer rage for the first time. He also found a way to travel through time though it got destroyed when he gone crazy, out smart the humans who at the time have been outsmarted autobots, and causew multiple planets to be devastated to mine energon,oh he can also make his own combiner if he wanted to.
He's one of the only singular deceptions (not counting combiners or teams) that actually have a chance of killing Megatron, one of the other being Soundwave, another awesome character
I read the one where he fought the dinos, the bot defeated all 5 of them with his bare hand, blaster, and alt mode, then took pictures of their unconscious bodies to remember it by. A real gamer move, in my opinion.
Shockwave is one of those characters who's names both adequately and fail to summarize their character - bro causes ripples in the fabric of space, society, everything - shockwaves, if you will - with his every action
So he is the exact opposite of Regular Shockwave, while our Shockwave has a extreme lack of emotion and Empathy, Shatter Glass Shockwave has a extreme quantity of Emotion and Empathy
@@jurassicsmackdown6359 I wonder if he's older in that continuity, and that's why he uses it as a cane. Or maybe he's just weighed down by his emotions.
I think the most chilling thing Shockwave ever said had to be when Cliffjumper offered to take the Cortical Psychic Patch in Arcee's place, he responded with " Do not worry. If our subject does not survive the extraction, you will be next. " Shockwave is next level savage fr fr.
Thanos: wipes out half of all sentient life to help the other half Shockwave: condenses all of creation into a singular atom to power his planet and regularly experiments on his species keeping them alive for more torture
@@archonfettthe main difference here is he has no feeling or emotion everything he does is on the basis of logic to him his mission is keep cybertron alive by any means and if that includes turning the universe into the size of an atom to power it with near infinite power that would be the “logical” choice no matter the effects it has on others.
You see, Shockwave has his own hell, it is deeper than the deepest parts of hell, he isn't just satan, he is more terrifying and made all the things Unicron did look like a picnic
"Time to talk about IDW Shockwave". Ah hear comes the real shit. IDW: Turning you childhood into the most horrific stuff you've ever seen. And it's still good too!
I remember reading some of the IDW _My Little Pony_ comics, one of which included a scene where a unicorn straight-up tries to stab someone in the throat with her horn. There's even blood. The same one also featured a pony getting hit with a fireball and thrown through glass. Glad to hear they're consistently dark across all their series lol
In the show yes, but before that, he was actually in charge of Cybertron while the others Cybertronians are out there. He even capture and experiment on Alpha Trion before causing a Quintesson Invasion. Megatron stop that Invasion, but... yeah
I think shockwave may be the most monstrous villain I've ever seen, bravo to the writers for making what was essentially a loyal servant of Megatron into one of the biggest menaces ever seen in the entire medium.
I think its less to do with evil and more along the lines of "those who cannot feel the warmth of the village with burn it to the ground to experience it" moment. Shockwave was a just senator who, admittedly had some shadiness, was kept in check due to his inherent morality but then Sentinel did that procedure to him and snuffed out his moral core which, amounted to a big ass betrayal, leading to a result that produced the Shockwave we know now.
I love how it wasn't even the Rung of the time that caused Megatron's arrest and subsequent bad guy foreshadowing, but the future (otherwise present) Rung accidentally knocking down some bots' drinks while getting a twirly straw for Tailgate-... Dear god... he started it...
Shockwave to Thanos: "You stopped at only wiping half the universe? *Peasent."* (proceeds to collect every Infinity Stone across the Multiverse and build a mech out of them)
@@mr.knightthedetective7435 Thanos: I was trying to teach a lesson!- Shockwave: Your lesson is...ILOGICAL. "Proceeds to wipe all organic life in the galaxy, leaving room for a cybertronian empire."
Shockwave would be a very good main antagonist. He’s extremely intelligent, an extremely proficient tactician, and he has no ethics or morality, meaning he has no qualms doing the best tactical option. Honestly he would just make a terrifying main antagonist if written correctly
@@cantgame4now152Kurt Gödel and Alfred Tarski have basically proven that any attempt to have one closed off truth concept will create unprovability of some statements or contradictions. It is a logical fact that logic is not enough.
Also Shockwave, the moment Unicron shows up: “Hypothesis? I-I have NO hypothesis. This is beyond analysis, beyond logic. My vast data grid simply cannot compute.” Jokes aside, here are my thoughts: IDW Shockwave has the best backstory, and I love the concept of him being Onyx Prime, but all in all he’s too evil. Sunbow Shockwave isn’t independent enough. Regeneration One and Aligned Shockwaves are tied for best. Perfect depictions of logic being neither truly good nor completely evil.
I was born into a family that loved fantasy over sci-fi so I was never exposed to transformers as a kid. I am now very confused as to why Shockwave is not the main villain, and the only explanation I can think of is that he doesn't want to be.
It's crazy to think that after hearing this and then knowing that galactic man is "a version of Shockwave without empathy or kindness" is absolutely terrifying
It’s always funny to know that Megatron was supposed to be the main evil of the TF franchise. But when you look at Shockwave, Megatron is literally an angel. Of course Megatron has done some terrible things, but at least he has some morals, ethics, and most importantly, Empathy.
Shockwave: Pretty much *everything* is his fault. Edit: He also impersonated a god once. Damn. Edit 2: The Empurata on IDW Shockwave was out of spite, not a command by Sentinal. B R U T A L I T Y Edit 3: Wait, he actually became god. Damn.
It's like Pontiff Sulyvahn in Dark Souls 3 Shockwave may not look like a big part of the story but everyone and everything bad that happens is his fault in some way or another.
I think the most ridiculous part isn't that Shockwave went after ponies, but that (as shown in the panel) he said he wanted to use ponies to fuel decepticons, for which he attempted to use a CHEESE GRATER and a WHISK!
Shockwave went from being a member of Megatrons lost cause to a huge threat that he even makes Megatron the main villain of the series look like an angry autobot in comparison hell even unicron himself got nothing on this guy that's why he's the best in the entire series
I feel like the more evil thing he did in TFP was to invent the Cortical Psychic Patch. We see it used a few times in the show and when it isn't handled properly...well, a bot's mind is only really big enough for one.
@@arkking552 I mean, Cyberverse seems like more of a 'kids show' than Prime, and Shockwave still seems to have tried some pretty extreme things there. I think if the show had run for longer, or Shockwave had a bigger role, we definitely would have seen some nastier, morally unethical experiments and stuff. He definitely had an aura of terror though. Comic Shockwave is on his own level.
The autobots made a big deal about the cortical psychic patch but like putting aside the fact rumging through someone's mind is highly unethical it didn't seem like that bad if done correctly cause Megatron himself had it done to him to get into Starscream's mind
I wheezed at the fact that he showed up in the MLP universe. Although with the ponies abilities, using them for energy wouldn't be a bad idea. Twisted, but not a bad idea
And he showed up in the HP Lovecraft crossover, which I can't believe actually happened. I'm surprised shockwave didn't convince the great old ones to turn him into one so he could cause more chaos.
@@rianmela3825 I'm pretty sure that most eldritch abominations already realize that it just means that they're in as much danger from him at that point because that's just how the random warcrime generator rolls...
I think the reason Shockwave is such a different character from the other Transformers is because he is the most “computerized” of them all despite them all being robots. Megatron and Optimus are robots and technically synthetic beings but they still have their own priorities and sense of morals, even Megatron has some level of rules to which he lives by. But Shockwave literally has no morals, not in that he neglects them, they just simply aren’t logical to him. He is truly a robot in the sense that he is a cold, unfeeling machine. When you’re dealing with a being who views the entire universe it lives in as simple 1’s or 0’s, with no qualms about acting upon what is deemed as purely logical within its own computational matrix, AND has the means and intelligence to be able to reach any level of power necessary to accomplish those tasks, you’re dealing with something truly unstoppable. Shockwave at his maximum potential is quite literally a Robot God of Logic, and we’re talking logic on a universal scale, where all life is essentially meaningless if it doesn’t serve a logistical purpose. Megatron fears Shockwave for a very good reason.
Before this, all I know of the worst things he did was commit unethical torture of Ultra Magnus and possibly other bots, create secret projects even Megatron didn't know, use the corpse of Magnus to detonate a virus, and used harvested Decepticons and Autobots to buff hunself out. This is like a human first experiencing consciousness THERES SO MUCH LORE
And this video doesn’t even cover everything he’s done. After failing to keep control of the Allspark, one version of Shockwave tainted and tore out his own Spark so that when he died, he’d return to the Allspark and the sheer evil nature of his Spark would *annihilate it,* completely erasing the Sparks of *every Cybertronian who’s ever died.*
I looove Shockwave. I stopped reading the IDW stuff years ago but it was good and always liked how Shockwave was always so many steps ahead of everyone else using their fighting for his benefit. To this day I still have the picture of him on the throne made from Seekers, holding Megatrons head, stepping on Primes as my phone background. Also I really need to get more of the Infestation series. Galvatron using a car (with a family inside) to smash zombies, in order to save other humans was fucking hilarious.
The next vid NEEDS to be on Bludgeon. He’s done stuff like mind control Thunderwing to wipe out a civilization, mind controlling Trypticon to go on a rampage across Cybertron, and performing cruel and horrifying experiments on fresh sparks and protoforms, basically on children.
Always thought of shockwave as the actual leader of the decepticons. I felt he allowed Megatron to act as leader, only to use that to his advantage. As though he used Megatron as a pawn in his plans.
no leading would take to much time away from his lab, leave that job to the one with the personality to do it (ever notice when he makes it to the meetings Megatron gives Shockwave his orders first then he then goes "Yes lord Megatron" and leaves, man lives in his lab)
Fun Fact: the Japanese version of Tidal Wave from Transformers Armada was originally named Shockwave and a flashback of his Cybertronian mode shows an alt. mode very similar to his G1 namesake (unlike everything else about Shockwave in this show).
This dude is like the buu ( from DBZ) of transformers. Originally the underling of the main villian, then he kills the main villians, f's up the entire main cast, tries to destroy the universe, and tried to destroy his verse's version of heaven, just like how shockwave tried destroying the allspark
i just went down an entire rabbit hole of lore and rewatched the 1986 film just to come back and watch this with more context. i never knew how absolutely dope transformers lore and storylines were outside of the films & TV adaptations
In the DOTM prequel comic, the rising storm Shockwave practicaly soloed the Autobots and even killed all of the Autobots introduced in previous comics and the Arcee triplets and Jolt.
