Christofer Johnsson on “Ruler of Tamag”:
"The song was written by me and Thomas Vikström and it has a lot of Middle Eastern influences in the music. Lyrically it deals with the ruler of the Underworld in the Turkic mythology called Erlik. Parts of the song is in Turkish language. I collaborated with Soner Canözer from the now defunct Turkish symphonic metal band Almora for the translation/rewriting of the Turkish parts of the lyrics.
The video is a lyric video and it was done by Carlos Toro from Abysmo Films that did our video clips the past 13 years.”

Nice to see that Therion listened to their Turkish fans. They complained - and righly so - that the previous version of this video had a lot of Arabic elements and Turkish are not Arabic. So the band released this new video. I have to confess that, visually speaking, I prefer the older version of the video but is just a matter of taste. What really matters is to express the real origins of the song and the culture it's linked to.

When the song was playing I was working on an excel and as soon as I heard the Turkish part I was shocked. I thought song changed and it was another band but I realized still Therion. I guess it is a better version of this topic. Very decent of filming studio and director to do it free of charge. Respect. I want to once again note, that the song is pure jem, Mr. Johnsson. Perfect blend of ballad and epic, acoustic and orchestra, of metal and middle-eastern motives. You and Thomas did amazing job composing this one. And Taida did something marvelous and beautiful with her voice. Real magic it is how voice can enchant. I also like how acoustic guitar in 1st verse contrasts with electric guitar without distortion in 2nd. Very nice. And your experiment with Turkish choir fits well into whole picture. Finally the blend of voices in the end builds a true crescendo feeling. Thank You, Mr. Johnsson for opportunity to listen such beauty (sometime I wonder how humans are able to create such greatness).

Pues es tu opinión basada en tus gustos.... Therion se reinventa constantemente esto es solo un tema de su reciénte disco y este de hecho suena como sonaba el viejo therion cosa que los fans también se quejaron hace unos años cuando el era más opera metal esta canción la verdad se siente como el therion legendario de los discos vovin, Lemuria y similares. En mi opinión l canción está genial aunque no sea pesada. Pero es cuestión de gustos

Ai and art don't belong together in the same sentence. There's some pretty extreme irony in an artist using AI instead of actually hiring an artist. Considering that every single art generation AI is trained on art stolen from artists. I'm sure there's a lot to love about this band but I don't think I'll ever be listening to another song by them.

@@GuiltyKit It's become such a plague in music. Do you know any bands that have really spoken against it and said categorically that they will not use it? Because by now my default view is that if a band I listen to hasn't used AI for their visual material so far it's probably just that they haven't gotten around to it yet or don't have the technical skill to do it. It's been pretty disappointing. There should be solidarity between artists (or at least some 'enlightened self-interest' approach since AI is coming for music too), but indeed there is none.
