Welcome to my new lesson video in Physics. This time I will be discussing the concept of thermal expansion - its definition and different types. This will focus more on discussing a specific type of thermal expansion, the linear thermal expansion. Coefficients of thermal expansion, formula derivation and problem solving(linear expansion only) are included in this lesson video.

How much water will overflow in a steel pipes hot water heating system containing 75 cubic foot of water? The Hot water heating system is filled with water at 40 °C and then heated to 100 °C. The coefficient of volume expansion for water is 0.00037 per Cº or 0.0002 per F°, and the coefficient of linear expansion for steel is 11 x 10-6 per Cº or 6.1 x 10 -6 per F°. Can you answer this

Hey I tried this method in another problem. Instead of copper wire, my problem was glass. So it is right until I reach the final answer, using the other method(which is correct) the answer was 225 degree Celsius and using this method I only got 25 degree Celsius, I feel like this is the simplified method of the two but I'm confused if I should add 200 so that I can get the exact same results but the question is where did the 200 came from?
