Thermo Fisher's QuantStudio 5 and Bio-Rad CFX384 PCR machines are quite comparable.
Both come it at around the same price point so the question becomes, which one should you buy and which one makes the most sense for you and your application?

My first project when I started working at Thermofisher as a Systems Engineer was to do a benchmark experiment of the QS7 Pro, Opus, and Agilent. Qs7 Pro ended up having overall better performance and user interface. Also, there was a lot of bleed from Opus Filters for a few of the dyes I was using, causing bad reference CT value. Also, the Melt curve derivatives will varied from well to well i=on the CFX Opus leading a to a non proportional heating across the thermal array. The QS7 pro had more even thermal proportional across the array. I don't fully remember, but I had issues with the Opus genotyping analysis, im not sure if they even had any or a least the maestro software had limitations. I no longer work at Thermo and I have no stake in it. Just thought It would be nice to share. I moved on to the medtech industry and out of the biotech.

I’ve also worked with both equipments and definitely the QuantStudio 5 is a better equipment overall. The veriflex zones allow me for run 2 or more different assays at the same time and optimization is far more controled. Also the cloud connectivity allows for multiplate analysis with a lot of options on gene expression experiments. Fast mastermixes work flawlessly in the QS5. Channel bleedover in multiplex is better compensated as well specially in multiplex experiments. Just my 2 cents😉

Looks like you're a fan of the QS5 then I take it haha! All of these machines are tools, some are better than others at different things right? It's not the hammer, it's the craftsman.

I've found working extensively with both instruments, the thermo built quality is far substandard to the cfx. The software on Thermo is also clunky, visually it looks like a mess, the cfx software has a step by step workflow. Thermo is cheaper because it's overall quality is less than the cfx

I haven't tried QS5 but the ABI onestepplus software is also a mess compared to CFX manager/CFX maestro. I really like the comprehensive but easy step by step UI of CFX maestro

Great video, as far as owning these machines go. Does Thermo require you to sign into a service contract, is it necessary?

thats not necessary. However, you get 2 years of free service contract if you buy the machine.

q5的前脸容易坏，启动的时候控制热盖升降电路板容易坏，quantstudio5的第一组滤光片容易坏，尤其是第一次使用的时候发现这个问题。

Hi David, thanks for the information, really helpfull for me as I am trying to get a thermocycler, but in latinamerica you can have a QuantStudio for 60 K, so I am looking for other options. What is your opinion about MIC?
