@@oceanadventures365 thanks for the response, we’ve a 2kw transducer and a 1kw. I’m wondering if we are able to get a return with the transducer when not reading bottom.
Absolutely but that's where knowing how to tune your system comes in. You should see bottom to at least 1400m on those machines on low frequency. Do you have low and high frequency. Thermocline shows on low frequency only
@@oceanadventures365 that’s what I thought, we should be reading bottom up to 1,400 meters with our setup. There is much debate about what frequency to use with the lowest being 50khz which is what I tell the captain to use in deeper water but he insists that the beam is too large and won’t work for deep water. I know lower frequencies are better in deeper water and the lower the frequency the better chance of a return. I wonder how the Omni transducers are able to get a return without hitting bottom? They can detect fish up to 1/2 mile away in any direction.
