+ or - Cycle Work | Work in Cycle Examples Analysis
A piston-cylinder device contains 0.15 kg of air initially at 2 MPa and 350℃. The air is first expanded isothermally to 500 kPa, then compressed polytropically with a polytropic exponent of 1.2 to the initial pressure, and finally compressed at the constant pressure to the initial state. The cycle in the (V, P) plane is shown. Determine the boundary work for each process and the net work of the cycle.

example 4-3- how the volume will increase during isobaric compression?

Isobaric means constant pressure and is not related to volume. So the volume can increase decrease or remain the same.

@@DrGucci usually during isobaric expansion the volume will increase and isobaric compression means volume will decrease right?

@@prabusenthil4746 Not necessary. There are three parameters, temperature, pressure, and volumn, so the change can be in either combination. For example in idea gas law Pv=RT, there are three parameters.
