The Hess' law states that the change of enthalpy in a chemical reaction (i.e. the heat of reaction at constant pressure) is independent of the pathway between the initial and final states. A Thermochemical Equation is a balanced stoichiometric chemical equation that includes the enthalpy change, ΔH. Bond enthalpy, also referred to as bond energy or bond dissociation energy, is the energy required to break a particular covalent bond in one mole of molecule in a gaseous state. A Born-Haber cycle applies Hess's law to calculate the lattice enthalpy by comparing the standard enthalpy change of formation of the ionic compound (from the elements) to the enthalpy required to make gaseous ions from the elements. In thermodynamics, the Gibbs free energy is a thermodynamic potential that can be used to calculate the maximum of reversible work that may be performed by a thermodynamic system at a constant temperature and pressure.In this video we will cover:-
